RE: Help me decide. I plan to buy in the next two weeks

All 3 are FR produts,if you haven't been there already, all three are on the Forest River forums, site, you can hear about each one from the owners, and the Columbus has a palomino factory rep. on there you can ask build questions to directly.

RE: Welding

As a fabricator that welds on cars and trucks all the time, for the couple of seconds it takes to pull the hot lead off the battery,ALWAYS disconnect on anything with a "computer"in it,just to be safe, alot of the 2000 up vehicles have 20-40 different small computers to control everything.....not worth the risk.

RE: Propane and gas

Superduty, you are the first person I have heard say he got better mileage with ethanol infused gasoline. Most of the folks I have read about claim fewer miles per gallon and decreased power. What in the world were you reading!! I said I get better milage and power with the pure gas (WITH NO ETHANOL)....??? I swear some of you guys can't read......and everyone knows,or should, when you say moisture, ethanol absorbs water way more than gas,so as it absorbs more moister, that means theres more moister (water) in the gas and that's what corrodes the fuel system ,especially small engines..if you ever saw a sprint car on ahcohol, the motor literally sweats,as far as the guy criticizing my punctuation, you're one of the reasons I don't post much......

Propane and gas

Went to get propane where I always get it at a mobile home dealer/park,girl asked what size and I replied 30lb.,and she said 17.00,I said not 20...30lb.,she said propane is starting to drop like a rock, with all the gas in the area,(Marcellus Shale)and these people fill them to the max.allowed,17.00 is what you pay at box store for 20lb.,and it isn't a full tank!Next I go to the local big gas station, and my neighbor had told me they just got a pump that is pure gas,no ethanol,I asked if they care what you put it in,and they said they didn't care, mostly I use it for all my mowers, chain saws, power washers, ect,as my neighbor owns a Huskyvarna store and tells me all the time how the moister in the ethanol, screws up all the carbs.,but I really like it in the truck,it gets such better milage and the power is better also, regular here is 3.39 a gal.,and the 100% gas is 4.00,so not a big difference, plus I like it in my Hot Rods, and all nice and close!(By the way,I don't care about tree huggers, drilling or climate change so don't waste your breath)

RE: Feeling really foolish!

A few years back, before I even owned a 5ver,(had a 29' TT)my BIL and I had almost identical new trucks, and he dropped his 5ver on his bed while I was standing a few feet away not paying attention to what he was doing, ruined his bed, that is still etched in my memory every time I hook up,or unhook!!! That's one thing I don't need on my list....

RE: How do you hook up your 5th by yourself?

Reach over bed, from ground, pull handle, look in mirror, back until pin goes in hitch, slide bar slams shut, get out and put lock in it,and when I walk around back of truck, with no tail gate, to plug my cord in,I can see right in hitch with slide bar across the center,no need for pull test, unless I want to see if I can pull the bed rails out of the bed, simple hook up,simple hitch, just the way I like it....

RE: Presque Isle

Everyone will agree...DO NOT STAY AT THE CAMP GROUND ON PRESQUE ISLE!!! You can't put your awning out or it will run into your neighbors unit, stay somewhere close and just drive or ride your bikes over to the peninsula, lots of great things to do.Others will tell you where to camp,we go up 90 and camp in NY on the lake.

RE: Tries to stay away from

My buddy I camp with has a Jayco 5ver,he just came back from out west,13,000mi.,last year he went to Alaska, all the way to the end and back,15,000mi. on a set of GY Marathons he put on right before he left for Alaska,28,000 trouble free mi.s on Marathons, pretty good test....

RE: Enjoying camping this weekend and...crash!

OP here,To clarify,TT was on a pretty good downhill slope towards road,it wasn't hooked to anything,it sat really high,he had about a 6" block under all 4 scissor jacks and tongue jack,it probably rolled 4'-6'ahead when it stopped,it was pretty violent, sounded like a 5ver landing on a bed,it was that loud....he's actually lucky the tongue jack folded under and the hitch dug into ground or it would have probably run over his Dodge truck!

Enjoying camping this weekend and...crash!

Was sitting reading at our 5ver at the lake with some friends on Friday evening and I heard a huge crash...jumped up and ran around my friends MH to see what happened, and there was about a 30'+ TT with 2 slides with the tongue laying on the ground, the tongue jack bent over, both front scissors were folded over and the rear bumper was about 4' off the ground.I saw the guy standing there with his wife rubbing his forehead and everyone looked ok,then started jacking up with a hyd. jack and get everything straightened out....didn't look like he wanted any help,so I went back to the 5ver but could see the back half of his TT,he jacked it back up to get it on his ball hitch and backed up to put the rear tires against the concrete curb and put some firewood in front of the front tires........no nothing was chocked when the tongue jack fell off the block ,someone came over and gave him their X-Chocks to use for the weekend, really felt bad for the guy, hope he didn't hurt the TT too bad, both slides were out when it fell, been doing this camping thing along time....as soon as you get it where you want it,the first thing you always do is PUT THE CHOCKS ON THE WHEELS!

RE: Trailer Brake Problems and Braking Performance

I know my integrated Ford controller is so smooth you think they aren't working correctly,I can lock mine up manually but never with the trucks brakes, even set on 10,and other Ford guys say the same, until tonight,on the way to the CG this afternoon a light in town changed quick and my view was blocked, and I got on them as hard as I've ever had to in 3 yrs. with this 5ver and she stopped right now! I looked back in my mirror to see if anyone was behind me and I left 20' of tire marks from the trailer....backed the controller down to 9,I've learned the harder you get on the brakes the better the trailer brakes work, but on easy slower braking you never feel the jerking even on 10,it just takes a little getting used to compared to the old controllers I had for years...

RE: Emerald Ash Borer profit?

Two different COEs we camp at,allow a local VFD to ride around in the campgrounds and sell you a very large wheelbarrow full of slab wood for 10.00,to raise money for their FDs,I've always questioned how do they know where all the wood came from for the sawmills to cut into slab? I buy a full truckload of slab from the local Amish less than a mile from my house for 20.00,so I bring my own,and the Rangers don't even ask where any of the firewood comes from, they are real strict,(LEO) on taking wood across state lines, which I think is smart though....

RE: First Fifth-Wheel

Congrats on the new rig,if you have a 4X4,stick it in low range backing up,that's what I do if it's a real steep climb, also, always try to back to you left so you can see where the trailer is going until you get familiar with backing....

RE: RV Crash Safety & Illusions of Safety

You and your kids are probably way safer in your MH compared to what happens when a family is in a small fuel eff. car going 75+ and hits an SUV or pickup!!! Drive at a safe speed and be carefull and watch out for all the crazies on cell phones and you"ll be fine...

RE: Keeping a log

I just write down which camp ground we went to,mileage up and back for maintenance and how many days there, that's about it.I have a very detailed maintenance log for the truck though,I write down if I wax it! But then again it's an '06 with 36,000 mi.and it's my baby...
