RE: Well upgrading from 10ft Tent Trail to 29ft Travel Trailer

Well the first trip went rather well, the truck seemed to do pretty good with only a few concerns but not having much experience with this I thought I'd post.
1) Things seemed rather bouncy, much more than what I remember with the pop-up. This could obviously be the weight difference, but is this normal. I only have standard P rated tires so not sure if this would help or adding airlift springs to the back, beefier shocks or just more tension on the wd bars?
I also went up one link on the wd bars to add a bit more tension, and it seemed to help more and the front end didn't feels as loose, but still more that I noticed in the past towing the pop-up, even with the van...do I add more tension still seems to sit pretty level...
2) Making u-turns is not advised in tight quarters! And getting out of it after reaching the point of "this aint gonna happen" can prove to be almost as difficult as trying the u turn in the first place.. :)
3) The grey water tank has read full all weekend so I think the sensor may be clogged or something not sure of the best approach to get it unclogged.
4) Also must remember to latch or "button" up sliding door to front bedroom, pulled the slide out of the bottom and had to fix when we got back, time to make checklist! :)
Thanks for all of the advice, and didn't really notice any issues with sway even with just the weight distribution hitch installed.
The break controller works out really nice as well, have it set at 5.5 setting on boost 2, seems like I could go higher as well, but not sure home much breaking force one wants, any good way to explain what I should "feel"?
Also dealing with stinky slinky was not near as big of a deal as I was having nightmares about....Guess watching RV again a few weeks ago was a bad idea..lol
Thanks again for all the advice.

We picked up the new home away from home yesterday, seemed to tow ok still have to adjust the brakes more, and really didn't do too much "highway" travel yet but seems pretty good so far.

RE: Well upgrading from 10ft Tent Trail to 29ft Travel Trailer

Well we finally got to look at the trailer yesterday, and everything looks great, should take it home Saturday. We got a DSP weight distribution hitch and I upgraded the voyager brake control to a P3. Everyone at the dealership says not to worry about sway bars, so we are going to try it without for now. Still nervous about towing but pretty excited at the same time. I love the fact the the holding tank hose stores in the bumper.......
Hope to get pics this weekend.
Cheers

RE: Bike Rack Again

I was always wondering why not throw the bikes in the bed of the truck?
For travel trailers and not fifth wheels seems like the logical choice....

RE: Well upgrading from 10ft Tent Trail to 29ft Travel Trailer

Well I guess we'll see some people say no problem, other boarderline, other no-way......
Too confusing going to call the truck dealership tomoorw to see what they say, hopefully it all works out...
If it doesn't Im sure disappointed in the Rv dealerships and manufacturers saying that these things are half tonne towable...
But I guess the next few weeks will tell.
As far as the PUP vs TT we are selling the coleman because of room plain and simple...It has served us well but we are ready for the change.
EVERYONE have fun and enjoy what you hav.. :)

RE: Well upgrading from 10ft Tent Trail to 29ft Travel Trailer

Not sure I know what you mean... I figure the max gear in the trailer should be about 600lbs, which would bring the toatl weight to about 6000, which is still 888-900 tonge weight and we are buying a WD hitch to help.
The recieved is one that was put on by the GM dealer and is a class IV

RE: Well upgrading from 10ft Tent Trail to 29ft Travel Trailer

Looks like the truck max trailer size according to the book is 7900lbs
with a GCWR of 13,000 lbs so the truck weighs about 4,000 lbs plus trailer of 5,600 so that leaves me 3,400 for passengers, cargo, fuel, etc. correct?

What does everyone tow theirs with, I keep readin biiger is better get at 3/4 tonne etc.
I just bought the truck and really likle it so I don't plan on buying another one soon..lol

Thanks for all the warm welcomes and such much appreciated.
I will post some pictures and what not when we finally get her home. Think we managed a good deal at $23K taxes in (canadian) for a unit that was used for 2 mths...

Well upgrading from 10ft Tent Trail to 29ft Travel Trailer

Well we put a deposit on a 2008 JayFlight G2 29BHS yesterday....
Excited and nervous about pulling, manuvering and parking all at the same time!
I will be nice to have the room, just hope things go well.
Any advice from anyone that has done the same, already planing on getting a WD Hitch before picking the trailer up and my 08 Silverado 4x4 Crew with the 5.3 should be able to handle it...
Should I visit a few parking lots first to practice manuvering?
Cheers
