RE: Contact info for Monaco tech help?

Thanks for the help. Both Monaco and BCS were very helpful. Monaco sent me specifications and a drawing for both front and rear ride height. BCS gave me the same info over the phone. The Beaver forum required renewing my membership.

RE: San Luis Mexico

We just returned from San Luis a week ago. No problem at all. Very little traffic, and few visitors. Very short delay walking through customs. We visit our dentist there. He did a check up on myself and DW, no charge as no work was required. We make the trip from Texas each year. What we save more than pays for a one week vacation. DW had a crown last year, $100 and gold/porcelain crown in place in two hrs. No problems, best fitting crown ever. Eyeglass prices have about doubled, eye labs went up market with fancy digs. Still less than US prices. Quality designer frames with the same lens option as US.

RE: Help..........Transmission problems???

On the Allison transmission you can check for a trouble code. If I recall correctly, with the engine running, in neutral, parking brake on, press both the up and down buttons simultaneously. The key pad will display a count down, about one minute. At the end of the count down it will display a code. Go online and do a search for the diagnostic trouble codes for your model Allison transmission.

Contact info for Monaco tech help?

I would like to contact the Monaco tech help line. I have a question about the ride height measurement on my 1997 Beaver Monterey with the Magnum chassis. Does anyone have their phone #? I have located the proper plate to plate height dimension. It's difficult however to find the obvious points to measure between. Thanks.

RE: How to measure ride height on a DP?

The Beave......JUrban is right. Some of the info you're getting is for the Roadmaster adjustment. I believe your coach is pre Monaco/Beaver buyout and has it's own chassis, not the Monaco Roadmaster. The Roadmasters were adjusted by measuring the difference between the two airbag plates. There were some earlier Roadmaster versions that were adjsuted by measuring differences between the large "H" frame assembly. I'm thinking you may have one of the original Magnum chassis. Either way, you'll need to find someone with the old specs and adjustment techniques. Try posting here Monaco Forum and see if someone has the info. If you can't get the info, you may have to guess at it. Guessing at it would include getting the coach to sit level on level ground and then checking the angle of the driveshaft. Your BIG issue is to keep the drive shaft running in a straight line from the transmission to the rear end. You don't want it at an angle while driving down the road, causing it to articulate more than it should. Your correct, I have the Magnum chassis. My air valve failed and the RV shop replaced it and adjusted the ride height. The drive shaft is still at an angle and as a result there is a drive line noise and vibration at the transition going from throttle on to throttle off. If I can find the proper ride height I'll give it to the shop, otherwise i"ll have them raise it until the noise stops. Thanks

RE: Labor charges forcing sale

I agree about the shop costs. My best service was with an independent RV mechanic. The last time I checked there were such guys listed in the FMCA magazine. Some are volunteer mechanics that will help people in their local area. It's well worth looking. My local RV shop quoted me $350 to repair the entry step. Thanks to this forum I found a new motor at Autozone for $39 and installed it myself. However by buying the part myself and using a local independent mechanic The step could still have been repaired for far lass than $350. Another alternative is to pick up a smaller/simpler used class B or C.

How to measure ride height on a DP?

I understand that the ride height measurement is taken "plate" to "plate". Are the plates the metal cones at the top and bottom of the air bag? Or is there some other set of plates to measure?

RE: kwikee steps

I just picked up a window lift motor for my Kwikee step at AutoZone, the price was $39. and their part number is #264574 42-338. The 42-338 may or may not be part of the number, hard to tell from my receipt.

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Removed the step motor and ordered a new one from Autozone, $39. Removed the vinyl from the interior step treads and installed new carpet, removed the warped vinyl from the stair raisers and replaced with wood grain vinyl flooring that matches the interior wood color. Also rebuilt the bottom step tread that had become water logged. Clean and re-stain adjoining wood trim.

Batteries from hell, solved again, I think!

A couple months ago I posted a topic describing my problem with my new 4-6 volt batteries discharging, even with 200 watts of solar. After seemingly endless searching, sorting and replacing of various items, I finally gave up and install a battery cut of switch on the house batteries. Soon after I discovered the two engine/chassis batteries had also died and so those were also replaced. Now I'm surprised, the house batteries are staying fully charged with the battery cut switch passing power. Apparently the dead cells of the chassis batteries were some how connected to the house batteries and draining the power. Could this be a circuit unique to my beaver? Who knows, in any case I'm happy to have a stable 12 volt system again. Thanks to all who made suggestions on this issue.

RE: Replacement motor for Kwikee steps

I ordered the motor today from Autozone. We checked several of the part numbers and found one that matched my application. Part will be in late next Tuesday. $39. Not bad!

RE: Replacement motor for Kwikee steps

Thanks for all the info!!! Tomorrow I'm going to remove the entire step assembly so I can work on it on the bench. I'll remove the motor and follow up on the recommended parts. Thanks again!

Replacement motor for Kwikee steps

The Kwikee step motor in my 1997 Beaver Monterey has failed. Somewhere I recall hearing that auto window motors may be a replacement. Does anyone know what auto (ford, Chevy etc.) and year/model would be a replacement? Thanks.

RE: Towing Setup for Honda CRV

We used the DEMCO base plate. Simple bolt on installation. I did the install myself. The DEMCO has small tabs that extend through the grill. Hardly noticeable. We also have the aluminum Blue Ox towbar with adapters to mate with the Demco base plate. About $50. for the adapters. I installed diodes in the stop light circuit. Installing an extra brake light socket in the stop light assembly is another method. I also cut a fuse apart and wired it to switch that I mounted in the dash to isolate the radio during towing. Simple.

RE: Battery Replacement Proceedure ???

Remove the negative battery bank to vehicle cable first. Remove the positive cable to vehicle second. Within the battery bank, I follow the same procedure, negatives off first, positives second. Use the same process when re-installing, Positive on first, negative second. I remove the solar fuse before doing anything. But in all truthfulness, I don't know if its necessary. Just to be on the safe side, I wrap the handle of the wrench with electrical tape to avoid any unplanned contact between a positive terminal and a ground.

Air suspension ride height adjustment?

I have the recommended ride height for the air bag suspension on my '97 Beaver Monterey, however I don't know between what two points to take the measurements. Any suggestions? Also, to raise the ride height, do I move the lever connection on the rod up or down? Any safety issues while I crawl under this thing to make the adjustment? Thanks!

RE: House battery cut off switch?

Thanks for the info. I just had a cut off switch switch installed by an RV repair shop, and I was surprised to find it on the positive side. I'll move it.

RE: Battery questions.....did I break something....???

I just replaced the two starter batteries on my '97 Beaver Monterey. I purchased mine at NAPA, 950 cranking amps, group 31 batteries, $109 each. Sams Club had group 31 batteries, however they were only 750 cranking amps, also $109 each.

RE: LPG Injection on Cat C7

I installed a commercial propane infusion system on a '94 Isuzu diesel Safari Trek. It did make a huge difference. The propane transformed it from a rooling roadblock to an only somewhat under powered RV. Hills that I could only top at 25-45 mph were now topped at 45 -65 mph. The system had a regulator that passed propane only under moderate to heavy throttle positions. The quantity of propane was modest, about one gallon per 70 miles. As I drove it wide open about 90% of the time for about 30,000 miles it must be fairly safe mechanically. Would I use propane infusion on my 3126 Cat? No! Why risk it on an engine that costs more than my first house!
