RE: Bilsteins vs. OEM Dodge shocks

Wow, mine are 7 years old. I love the adjustability. I guess I'm really lucky.
There are some who have posted in these shock threads that the Rancho's are not the same quality as they once were.
Mind you, I do not start gossip, but I do pass it along. :B

RE: Don't want to open a can of worms, but....

OK folks, please remember what the OP of this thread said: the idea of going full time in the future
One must recognize that this is immediately going to eliminate some brands, as NOT ALL fifth wheels are warrantied by their manufacturers for full time use.
OP, that is something you are going to have to ask. Is this trailer warrantied for full time use?
Of those you mentioned, the only one I know for sure is warrantied for full time use in the Heartland LandMark. And mind you, not all Heartlands are warrantied for full time use. Just their very top line models, of which LandMark is one. (there are two more, but I forget right now their names :o ).
You'd have to check about Cedar Creek models and Redwoods, I do not know with those brands.

RE: Harley on a 5er

Nuwa/Hitchhiker advertised this one on their web site some years back.
I am not a motorcycle person, but noticed it since I do own a Hitchhiker fifth wheel.
Sounds like the single wheel version you were writing about.

RE: I have been done away with

I'm still wondering why the lady in the ad had gloves on. :>)
Driving gloves????? :S Kind of self defeating since the car parks itself though.
Neat video.
As far as objects or pedestrians getting in the way of the vehicle, I am sure there are sensors in the vehicle to detect such things and stop the vehicle from moving.
Now, one has to figure out where your car is when this system has a glitch. Punch the button and it never shows up.

RE: Giving up land line

Gave ours up, no one ever used it, save for the telemarketer calls we did not want anyway.
We've all got our separate cell phone lines. No need or use for a land line.

RE: Bilsteins vs. OEM Dodge shocks

Bilstein tech support said the 5100's are velocity valved for off road applications. They are not recommended for TC or heavy towing/hauling. These should have 4600's which are linear valved shocks.
Now that is, at least to me, something new here on the Bilstein's. Good to know. I was planning on going the 5100 route for replacement shocks. Guess I will change my mind to the 4600 series.
If I recall correctly, the 5100 series has a separate hydraulic reservoir attached through hydraulic hoses to the shock.

RE: Looks like the new Ram HD can tow, but can it Haul?

Agree, that article linked to sure appears misleading.
Perhaps those numbers are in line for a 5500 series, but certainly not anything up to and including the 3500 series.

RE: Williaton ND and route 2

Highway 2 was good for me last September. Ran it from Grand Forks all the way to Williston. Four lane all the way across North Dakota now.
That said, the last bit into Williston was very heavy traffic wise. Minot west to Ray was what I consider normal, nothing too major. No trouble with pot holes, bad road conditions, or rocks thrown up by trucks.
As posted earlier, Lewis and Clark State Park may be the only RV park not swamped in the area, and even that is not a sure bet.

RE: Looks like the new Ram HD can tow, but can it Haul?

Well is 9750 lbs of payload capacity enough?
Where in the world are you getting 9750 pounds of payload??????
Outrageously high number.
The 2013 Ram Camper Guide lists the highest payload at 5750 pounds for a regular cab, two wheel drive SLT/Tradesman version.

RE: Selecting 5er getting close to decision

kakampers, good for you.
Those stinkers at Heartland should update the info on their web site then. Lot of folks search and read a lot before buying. Their Internet info should be current, not past tense, as was the case I found.

RE: Going to the Sun Road - Glacier NP

Just remember no vehicle over 21' in length is allowed on it. My pickup alone is to long.
I've seen this posted before also. Frankly, I do not know their regulations.
However, I did drive over Logan Pass/Going to the Sun with my previous vehicle, a 2003 Chevy crew cab dually long box.
Not a problem, and it is surely the same length if not just a little more than the quoted vehicle above.
The only thing mentioned to me when I entered the park was to keep my mirrors in their innermost position, not extended in their tow position.

RE: looking for 30' alpenlite fifth wheel in tx

One can also try searching Alpenlite via the RV Trader dot com site. Search fifth wheels, and Alpenlite.
Link for you: RV Trader site
Did a quick browse through for you. There is a 34 footer listed from San Antonio Texas. Looks like a private seller. There may be more, I stopped at the first one I found.
No affiliation in any way with this add.

RE: Selecting 5er getting close to decision

Oh, and also note concerning Heartland:
Full timing not warranted in all their units. Another copy/paste from their owners manual on-line:
Any product used for a commercial or business purpose, including,
not limited to, rental, charter, or for other fees for service, or as a residence is excluded from this Limited Warranty. (This
residential limitation shall not apply to Land Mark, Big Horn and Big Country brands.)
So Landmarks, for example, are warranted for full time, residential, use.

RE: Selecting 5er getting close to decision

Landmark does NOT have a 2 year warranty. They are still one year and their new ones are certainly lower in quality. Just looked at them as a consideration. Redwoods...just looked at them also...lipstick on a pig. If you want a fulltiming rig you need to buy one. We just upgraded our Escalade to a Lifestyle to pick up next week. Take a look. Built by the folks that did Carriage...
All this is my opinion of course...your opinion may be different.
You are WRONG...Just ought one and they certainly DO have a 2&5 warranty!
From the Heartland web site, directly from their owners manual they have there: a copy and paste from the Heartland RV site:
Heartland RV provides to the original retail purchaser who purchases the unit from an authorized dealer and who uses
the vehicle for private single family recreational travel, camping and seasonal usage a one (1) year warranty under
normal use against defects in material and/or workmanship in the construction of the vehicle and its original components.
Sounds like 1 year to me. Enthusiasm for your rig is fine and good, but get or keep the facts straight.

RE: The dreaded bedroom slide crack

Yikes!
One thing you could also do right now is compare the crack size when hooked versus unhooked.
Hopefully, no change. If they do change, not a good sign.

RE: 2006 NuWa Hitchhiker 37CK

Good units, very highly regarded by their owners (including me :B )
Still own a 2003 Hitchhiker Discover America series.
You may want to compare prices, just for information.
Two sites you can use.
First, Hitchhiker is now out of business, no longer making RV's. But they still have a sales center at the former factory, and do repair/service work there.
They list several different model years of Hitchhikers on their web site. May be worth looking just to compare your price and what they list. Link: Hitchhiker -Kansas RV Center
Also, one can check at following for price comparison: RV Trader.com site

RE: Your tow rig

I have towed a 250,000# B-52H Bomber with a 5.9 Cummins. Does that count?
I realize off topic, way off, but why should that stop me now?? :B Never has before.
Anyway, lucky enough to get a total tour of a B-1B few years back at Ellsworth AFB South Dakota.
I was so impressed with the total loaded weight of those bombers. The Air Force official who gave us the tour said the B-1B and B-52 were both over 500,000 pounds fully loaded. B-1B full load actually heavier than a B-52, which surprised me.
A lot of fuel and bomb load. Impressive machines. Hard to imagine that much weight can fly.

RE: Your tow rig

Its just this year alone that a vehicle has come out rated to tow 30K. That is the 2013 Ram 3500. Suspect this is a regular cab gas motor.
Folks on the Cummins forum are pulling your leg, but not pulling 30K.
Gas motor pulling 30K lbs.... LOL
Well, actually, probably is. Diesel Cummins adds too much weight to the vehicle, lowering the rating.
Whatever the case, it is certainly NOT:
four wheel drive
Quad cab
Mega cab.
