RE: Illegal Towing.... Triple Towing

But you didn't drop down far enough. Here is the provision that allows an out of state resident to tow with their out of state license, like you can with your Idaho car drivers license.
DRIVER LICENSING for DOUBLE TRAILERS - NONRESIDENTS
12502. (a) The following persons may operate a motor vehicle in this state without obtaining a driver's license under this code: (1) A nonresident over the age of 18 years having in his or her immediate possession a valid driver's license issued by a foreign jurisdiction of which he or she is a resident, ....

RE: Help! First Timer, Should I walk Away?

That price around here would be OK for an absolutely perfect motorhome of that vintage, but not for one with delam problems and no slides or jacks. That coach would be in the $10K ± range and probably on the minus side.
Look at the date on the tires, batteries, last service, etc. If you have to put tires or batteries on, then you will see your bargain jump in cost.

Fleetwood used rubber roofing on their trailers, so just make sure whatever you use does NOT contain any petroleum products or petroleum byproducts.....

RE: Illegal Towing.... Triple Towing

CA allows double tow as long as the first trailer is a FW and total length under 65' and operator has class A with double endorsment. Brakes on any trailer over 3500 lbs. I think.
Very glad you added those last 2 words, as your statement is totally wrong. CA allows double ball, OP does NOT need a doubles endorsement, only the proper RV license and a medical card, IF a CA resident, and the medical is not applicable to out of state residents that have a license that is legal in their home state. Been there done that and the CHP agreed that the law is NOT applicable to out of state residents.

I am 74' and have been inspected in several states, without receiving any complaint. Yes, I do have brakes on the trailer.

RE: Illegal Towing.... Triple Towing

:h If he's towing TWO trailers, how would you consider he's TRIPPLE towing? I don't know of ANY state that allows triple towing without a commercial license or special permit. Double towing is allowed in MOST states as long as the first trailer is a 5th wheel and only a FEW states allow double towing with two conventional trailers.Just the opposite skip, of the 39± states that allow double towing, ONLY 4 require the 1st to be a 5er and all the others either specifically allow 2 ball hitch or are silent on the topic.

RE: Tires

I just got a quote on Samson tires in 275/70R22.5 of $375/ea, out the door. That will probably be my next tire, as I have several RV friends that have gone to them and are very happy, plus several of the larger local trucking companies have made the switch to Samson and are very happy with the results.

RE: Illegal Towing.... Triple Towing

Now it gets into semantics, as one state I checked, defined a 5th wheel hitch in their legal definitions as a "pinned draw hitch", which allowed motorhomes with a pinned draw bar to qualify. Also, there are only 4 states that require the 1st tow to be a 5er and that legal definition came from one of those states. That is the problem with laws, they are usually so poorly written that one can do things legally, which the subject line would lead you to think otherwise........Also, some states specifically state that their laws regarding double towing are specific to commercial vehicles and then have NO laws for non commercial vehicles.
You can NOT just make a blanket statement that my state does NOT allow it or that a certain requirement must be met for it to happen.
A good example is one western state says that RV's are not allowed to double tow, but they also make an exception that is buried in the small print. You can double tow in that state, IF, you are going from a state that allows it, to another that allows it and you travel the most direct route. I read their law several times and NEVER saw the exception, until it was pointed out to me by a state Trooper.

RE: Tires

Maybe back east Pat, but not out here in the west.....Michelin would come in at least 3rd or 4th and Goodyear would not be in the top 10.

RE: Illegal Towing.... Triple Towing

I checked two different sources and it appears that WI does allow double towing on "select highways" with a maximum length of 60'. Might want to consult your state laws.....
Double towing is legal in at least 39 states and lengths vary from 60' to 90'........

RE: New truck in my future

If it were me, I would spend a few bucks to get the 2000 in top shape and take that to Alaska. Why subject a new truck to the abuse it will get on the summer road construction scene in Canada and Alaska?

RE: Looking to tow an '11 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4, advice?

Scott, are you going to be towing the Wing in the bed too? We went to a Roadmaster Blackhawk 10k AT with our truck, because we have the Rzr in the bed on some trips and that put us close to 7k pounds.
No issues to worry about, hook it up, put the transfer in N, the transmission in P, lock the doors and put the key in your pocket. I have gone to wireless lights when towing, as the dealer was very emphatic that if there were any electrical problems and the truck was wired for lights, through the truck wiring, GM would void the warranty. Now that I have used the wireless system, I wish I done that years ago. A great system......

RE: Giving up land line

Gave ours up in 1996 for a couple years, then moved to the ranch, where the only internet was DSL, so had another for 18 months, before going full time. No, there is NO reason for a residential landline in todays world, unless you live in a S&B that has NO cell service.
Very few 911 centers have GPS locating capabilities. may be true in MI, but the rest of the US is very well covered by 911 centers with the GPS locating ability. Even in our rural and sparsely populated state, our centers are so equipped......Our county, with less than 9900 people, has the ability to see your GPS location on their screen.

RE: Using Verizon in Canada

It has been a few years ago but at that time I just called Verizon and had "Canada calling" added to my account. It cost about $10 a month. That ended a couple months ago......Now the charge is like $89 a month for limited use, or 89¢ a minute for regular use.
If you have an unlimited plan you can add canada for 1000 minutes for $15
Suggest you call them - internet chat rooms are not always factualI not only called them, I was in the Verizon store 2 weeks ago....They discontinued the Canada add on program last month and now if you want a very limited amount of minutes, it is $89 a month. Not from the internet chat forum, directly from the manager of the Verizon store.

RE: Tires

Michelin and Goodyear are no better than the other excellent rated truck tires and offer NO more protection than the truck tires.....If you think the old cliche' of you get what you pay for and have more money than brains, then spend it how you like. I believe in getting the most for my money and in your case Yokos are a much better buy than the Michelin.
Also, the 5 year rule is pure BS and was dreamed up by the rich, not the average user. Michelin says on its website that their tires are good for 10 years, as do other manufacturers, so why are you wasting your money.....:?

RE: cpap and drycamping

Most of the newer models are capable of operating on 12v. May not have come with the cord, but $25 gets you started. I know that both Respironics and Resmed both have converted to 12v systems over the past 5 years. I installed a 12v plug directly from the bedside to the battery bank and my Respironics PR-1 Auto, runs strictly on 12v now, including the humidifier on setting #2.

RE: NEED ROADSIDE SERVICE PROGRAM

GS has a place where you can express any shortcomings, CoachNet does not.Wrong.....I gave the info several times on how to file a "valid" complaint for Coach-Net. They have a compliance team, just like Good Sam and they normally do NOT take the vendors side, but do a through investigation and give you the results in writing. Also. CN does NOT charge you for service, as it appears GS does.......Link to a dissatisfied GS ERS customer.....

RE: NEED ROADSIDE SERVICE PROGRAM

You have 2 choices for RV specific ERS, Coach-Net or Good Sam . Use the search function and you will find some very interesting reading.
We have had Coach-Net for going on 15 years and have NEVER had a complaint with more than 10 uses.
AAA RV+ is NOT the RVers friend, as it is NOT honored by all of the 53 separate companies that make up AAA, so you do NOT have nationwide sign and drive coverage.
