RE: What Did You Do For Your Travel Trailer Recently?

Installed a "rear view safety" camera on the back of the trailer. Put the camera on a 3' stand built of aluminum that u bolts on the 4" tube that runs the back of the trailer. installed a quick disconnect on the trailer and the back of the burb so its easy hook up. 7" display in the cab. Lot of crawling under the vehicles stapping the cables but it made it all worth while when we turned it on and saw that color picture back behind the trailer. it has a remote control to move the camera direction.
Also bought a wd/sway system and brake controller for my daughter's trailer and they got it installed today with the help of my nephew who has many talents. We are ready to caravan.
Revo-Ray, if you see this that cover for your trailer is one of the nicest I have seen. Any info on it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom

RE: Rear Kitchens

Greetings,
So far we have been liking our rear kitchen travel trailer more the longer we have it. There are some items we like even better than the diesel pusher 38' motor home we sold although that was a dream drive. We are still getting used to pulling the trailer and not having the frig and bathroom right down the hall. Our daughter and her husband purchased a 93 Prowler and have been fixing it for road ready so we are planning a run soon. I will repost when we get back as to how the trip went. I like the many windows in the Freedom express we have.

RE: Rear Kitchens

We have a Coachmen with a rear kitchen and love it. No problems at this time. Our trailer has the dual axles that are spread a little further apart and it gives it a smoother ride, that might be a good thing to look for.:)

RE: Back up camera for our Montana 5th wheel

I also installed a "rear view safety" camera system. After having one in our motor home when we switched to a travel trailer we really missed it. I chose the wired system with the quick disconnect between our Suburban and the Coachmen trailer. I did not want to fasten the camera to the back wall of the new trailer so I made an aluminum stand that attached to the 4" square tube on the back of the trailer that the sewer pipe goes into. The stand is about 3' tall and the camera sits on top so it is just under our kitchen window. I can easily remove the camera to safely store if we are leaving the trailer for any amount of time in a store lot etc. This is working for our needs. We wired it with the ignition so we can see behind us while going down the road not just when in reverse. Very happy with the system.

Dometic thermostat operation

We sold our Discovery DP and now have a Coachmen Freedom Express LTZ travel trailer. Retirement brought a lot of changes. This trailer is the first travel trailer I have owned. The thermostat is a Dometic Single Zone LCD Thermostat Model 3313189.000. I can get it to turn on the fan, heat, and a/c but it is suppose to be able to show existing temp "on demand" as well as some diagnostic items. Does anyone have one like it and how do you operate the demand side. I have calls into the dealer, manufactor etc but I keep getting a two page sheet that tells all what it can do, just not how to do it.
http://www.dometic.com/enus/Americas/USA/RV-Products/climate/ac-display-page/?productdataid=97074
Appreciate any help on this and are looking forward to our first road trip with the trailer.

RE: rvsearch.com disappeared ???

No, I have looked several times on RVs.com and to no avail. I called Good Sam and they gave me a number in Colorado that nobody answers, it goes to mailbox and I never get a call back, have left 4 messages.
Kind of frustrating when it seems these are all owned by the same people and backed by Good Sams but no one so far has given me a good reason why my ad disappeared when it was still current.???

RE: Chevy 454 exhaust manifold gasket leak

I had to change out the exhaust manifolds on my 454 in a 90 Pace Arrow. The above advise is the key, spray with a good anti sieze like WD40 first. I did this twice a day for a week and then tackled the job and it went smooth and there was plenty of room to work in there by turning the tire one way or another. good luck, hope all goes well.

RE: 2003 discovery replacement headlight

Well while I was checking the numbers on the headlights I noticed the driver side was really yellowed. So I went to Walmart and bought some Maguires PlasX for $6. The stuff really works, took about 15 minutes to tape off the painted area etc and apply the PlasX with a foam paint brush (68 cents) and wipe off with a terry cloth rag. I did this two times and the headlight is about 90 per cent as good as new back from about 30 per cent.

RE: 2003 discovery replacement headlight

The headlight asembly is a 20-5362 for driver side and 20-5361 on pass. side on my 2003 Discovery. The headlight is for a 1999 - 2001 Ford F450 superduty. I have seen them for $32 for lens and lamp on Amazon.com. Some of the guys over on our Discovery Owners site say if the plastic lens is just dull you can use Maguires PlasX ($6) at Wal mart to shine it back close to new.
The bulb is a 9007 ($20 and up depending on if you want regular bulb or ultra etc). ... hope this helps.

RE: Norcold Reefer stopped working

Larry, let us know the outcome. I have the same 1200LRIM and have had several "wonder boxes" replaced. The frig has not been the problem only the recall box. The second time they replaced it they dropped some insulation in the burner box and it caught on fire (smoldered) which meant we had to shut it off and live out of ice chests for the week. We called them and described the burn smell best we could and they told us we had a bad heat exchanger (that burn amonia smell) turned out to be that insulation. The frig always worked fine before we took it in for the recall. On the other side, I have also seen pictures of a burned out RV from a faulty frig so I don't think I would chance running it until it is checked out. Good travels,

RE: Circuit Board

Just went through this with my 10gal Atwood water heater. The troubleshooting guide mentioned above said I could test the circuit board with a volt/ohm multi tester and it showed bad. Because the circuit board is expensive I took it to the local RV service center and yes they had a hand held tester that said the board was good. Went back to the heater and did some more checking. The temperature limit overload showed no continuity so I looked further and the flame spreader on the end of the main burner was broken causing flame role out which poped the temp cut out. Called Atwood and explained what I found, they sent me a new flame spreader and temp cut out kit. Works like a charm....There was no charge to have the board checked at Dean's RV in Tulsa. Hope you get it fixed and have fun down the road.

RE: Motorhome Dilemma

I agree with above, try to find a shop that works on your particular chassis or engine. I have a cat engine on a Freightline chassis and am fortunate enough to have both here in Tulsa. I know the following is kind of long but you might take what you need and save it. This way you can get someone to send you in the right direction for your unit in your area. Good luck and safe roads...Tom

RE: Tire question

The DOT code is the place to start, then as mentioned above if you do not know the history of the tire like inflation rates etc. the seven year rule is good. I just replaced a set of Michelins (6) 255/80R22.5 for close to $4k, they were 10 years old and we knew the history on them. Michelin says these XRV tires are good for 10 years if inflated properly, covered when not in use and inspected regularly. They still looked like new but we are looking at a long distance run and not looking for a big repair bill on a blow out damage. If those tires are original they should be replaced (ouch) before you go down the road...just my opinion. Find a good tire shop in your area and do the research on them before committing. We used a T&W tire shop, it was a little more expensive but had a shop big enough to work on our Motor home, some shops were going to change out the tires in the yard..that just spelled trouble down the road to me.
