RE: Sundance fifth wheeler

I think the consensus is unanimous. We have a Sundance 3200re and love it and customer service seems to be second to none when you see the other post about keystone and some of the other manufactures. However, you can have problems with any brand just like a car or other purchase. We are totally happy with our unit.

RE: Two things we notice

Ok, I'll explain.... I COOK FOOD over my fire. Well I can see your point then. Who knows what happens in the fire pit when unobserved. Others burn all kinds of toxins in the fire like treated lumber and cans coated inside with Teflon. I have a camping friend that cooks over the fire pit and is anal about the cleanliness when he arrives and cleans it himself . No one puts trash or other wood in the fire until he is done cooking that day. I hate when folks try to burn their cans and baby diapers before pulling out of the CG.

RE: Fear of Driving to the Mountains

In the semi we have a couple basic rules 1- you go down a hill 1 gear lower than you went up. 2- save your brakes for an emergency, use the engine/trans to slow you down. 3- if you have to brake, use stab braking as described above. As one ole boy told me as I creped down the Rockies for the 1st time. "You can go down a hill too slow many times, you'll only go down it too fast, once." Take your time and enjoy the view. I've made the same comment about going down the hill only one time too fast but I also got that piece of advice from a fellow trucker I was in contact with on my first trip over the mountains with an over size load, Wide and 90 plus thousand pounds. Words to live by for sure. Keep those words in mind and you will do every thing you can to get over the mountain safely. Most of all common sense and attention to the road prevails

RE: STINK

Got up this morning and there was this stink had to open door and windows I don't know whats going on with black water tank changed seal , checked vent pipe ,no smell basement.Having to dump evey 3 day to keep smell down, been fulltime for 4 mth now HELP Just a thought, We have Dometic 310 toilet in our 5er, it seems like every spring we have trouble with the seal in the toilet bowl holding water. We recently had some smell but the bowl had no water in it so I took some petroleum jelly and put on the seal and the water stays in the bowl and the sewer smell is gone. The water in the bowl acts as a barrier against the gases.Otherwise, is your vent plugged ? Or as someone else suggested, make sure your knobs on your gas stove and oven didn't get bumped on in the slightest. I have had that happen also!

RE: This Makes Me A Sad Panda.......

normally the rail line manager tells the rail crew he wants that train wreck cleared up and new temp rails laid down by next week. we are losing money each hr no trains are running!!!! NEXT WEEK.? We never took a week to get the trains running again, usually 24 hr or less! so get that crap, {cargo (whatever it is) and damaged rail cars} off the right of way and get me new rails laid, I want to see money making trains running. we will send the bill to the insurance company now getting cracking. I can almost hear this conversation taking place!!!!!

RE: 8'6" width concerns

Suppose you only had 6" clearance on a side in a construction site with the 102" trailer. If you decrease the overall width to 96" you get 50% more clearance on a side. Another way of looking at it. :) In the scenerio you give, you would not be allowed on that road with a trailer wider than 8'. in fact, it would be closed it would seem. For what its worth, a standard low boy trailer can be 8' to 8'6. Any wider than 8'6 and you better have your oversize load flags on and the red flags where needed and a D.O.T. premit. I doubt you would run into a situation where loads 8'6" are prohibited but if there was a restriction, I beleive it would be 10 ft or wider, other than that there might be a restriction for oversized loads and 8'6 wide is not an oversized load. Several years ago I was taking a wide load thru Omaha and they were doing construction on the interstate. I was routed by the DOT around the construction. It was a 10 ft restriction and my load was pusing 10ft wide and I got my permit at that width. I missed my exit around the road work and was left with no choice but to go thru the contruction site. I went thru with the flow of traffic and had no problems and I had a 5 axle trailer so I was long as well as wide. What I did was against the law but I had no choice and nowhere to turn around. I didnt get caught but it just reaffirmed that you get some grace on measurments on overhead bridges and narrow bridges and such but doesnt mean you can violate the law. But an 8'6 trailer or RV wouldnt bother me on a standard road way whether in cg or on the road. I guess my confidence is higher than some but I have driven proffessionally and many ,many oversized loads on diferent road construction sites

RE: Running A/C on 20 amp circuit

I am not so sure the issue was his being drunk, so much as it was his being stupid. A drunk will get over it, but stupid person rarely does. You showed a lot of restraint in dealing with the guy. Had it been me, in your position or your Tech's, I could not have posted my response less it be deleted. I too typically use a 20-amp service, through my Honda 2000 or when plugged in at home. If I run my A/C it is obvious I can't run the microwave, hair dryer or big power draw device. Makes no difference how much I drink. WayneUh, Stupid drunk or drunk AND stupid

RE: vortec engines

I have the 2008 with the 6.0 and 3.73 gears. We just came back from a week long road trip from Florida to Kentucky and back. We averaged 9 to 10 MPG loaded. I found using tow/ haul mode and "manually" locking out 6th gear it would run between 2200 and 2400 RPM in 5th gear at 62 to 65MPH. It would jump to 3000 - 3200 in 4th gear climbing the grades, dropping down to sometimes 55 MPH. Empty around town I still only get 10 MPG and around 15 highway.I get similar milage with the same truck basically except on a trip to northern Wisc. last fall I got between 10 and 12 going up and coming back with wind. I keep my foot out of it tho.

RE: How do you hook up your 5th by yourself?

This is what I do, I find it necessary to use a ladder. I have to use a ladder. I just replaced a 3 step stepladder SIMILAR TO THIS ONE and replaced it with THIS 13 FOOT LADDER I climb into the bed and place a 1 X 1 inch by 2 foot board into the jaws of the hitch which helps me line up the pin. I have to jump in and out of the truck a few times to see if things are lining up then when things are close I climb the ladder into the bed and remove the wood and open the jaws. With the lever of the B&W hitch pulled back I finish backing until the jaws surround the pin, then I have to climb on the ladder to get back in the bed to pin the lever and secure the breakaway, then climb back down on the ladder. Is there a better easier way to do it? Next time you are on flat surface and the 5er is hooked up, make a mental note where the side of the tow vehicle line up on the sides of your RV and aim for that spot every time. Or put tape on the underside of your RV that line up with the side rails on your TV. You might have to move the TV over an inch or 2 but with practice you will get darn close and all you have to worry about is height of your pin. Three maybe 4 times ,getting in and out of TV and no need for ladders or getting into the bed of your truck. Im on oxygen and would have to give up camping if I had to go thru the procedure you going thru. But Im also a former professional driver so its feels easy for me but we all had to have a little practice. Use your side mirror for backing and lining uo the units together.

RE: 1T Pickup special rules and regulations?

It really all depends on the state. For instance, in Texas (per the TxDPS regulation) if you are pulling a trailer that weighs more than 10K you would need a Class A (not a standard Class C) license. If the trailer is less than 10K then one would require a Class B license. TxDPS Licensing Many folks do not meet this requirement and many may not even know it exists. So I would definitely ensure you call your local Department of Motor Vehicle (or equivalent) to ensure you meet the licensing standards. Iread the exemptions and there is basically exemptions for RV's. "CDL" COMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE" It says at the start, "You are exempt if you are pulling an rv for personal use. Unless that weigh station says all vehcles inluding rv's, buses ect. No need to weigh and I sure would worry about getting a CDL. I have in years past seen sign at a scale that said ALL TRUCKS, BUSES AND rv's must weigh but havent seen those signs since the nation wide CDL laws took effect. I find it hard to beleive that I could be stopped while Rv'ing thru Texas and be parked until I obtained a CDL or a particular class of license when my state and many other dont require it. For what its worth however, I see nothing wrong with getting a class A endorsment if you can get one with your RV in tow.

RE: Any Advice on Financing an RV Purchase?

Did you ask why you were denied? You have a right to find out why and the reporting agencies should send you a report stating why. When you credit checked you can receive a free report,

RE: 1T Pickup special rules and regulations?

Sorry if this is rehashing old info, but I haven't found a succinct summary. I'm about to pull the trigger on a new Chevy 3500 SRW diesel :). I've seen contradictory information on special considerations for a 3500 vs a 2500. My question is what "special" things do I need to know about the difference between driving a 3/4T vs a 1T? Specifically where do I find 'definitive' information? I've heard comments about pulling in to weigh stations, road restrictions, etc. Bottom line is what (if any) special things does a 3500 badge bring into play vs a 2500 badge? Thanks, Ron You are not for hire and therefore are not a commercial vehicle and are not required to stop at weigh stations. If have advertisments such as POLARIS or a JOHN DEERE decal on yur vehicle or RV you wil be required to weigh but you better have logs books or proof that you are not a commercial vehicle if they are asked for. If you are using a company vehicle to tow your RV and it has the companies logo on it but you are pulling your own rv with it, you will have to pull in to weigh but may be required to produce a log book and registration ect., and in that event you could be determined to be under hours of service laws. Bottom line is that if its your personal family vehicle and rv, then just pass the weigh station by unless it specifially says trucks buses and RV's must weigh.

RE: braking

Trailer brake should be set so that they grab an insatant before the TV brakes. It can be done with practice. If I recall the procedure, just roll ahead after hooking up and manually turn the adjustment on the controller til you feel a slight pull on the TV and you should have the proper adjustment so that when TV brakes are applied, trailer will set up just before and the the pressure will be the same at normal stops and not push the tv or lock the trailer brakes. If you should get a lock up on the RV brake at the first stop, slightly adjust accordingly.

RE: Slide blocks bathroom

We have a Sundance 32RE and to be honest we just liked the floor plan with the slides out when we were shopping. I seen a similar post about access to the bathroom and bed etc about 2 years ago on here I belive it was. For a lower class of 5er we got a nice set up for travel. We can use the bathroom, bed, cook on the stove and eat at the table, with access to the fridge. If we need the ed for an overnight stop enroute somewhere we have the television in the bed room.

RE: What's the trick to cleaning black tank level indicators

I know one thing, putting toilet paper down the toilet doesn't help. I wrote in here a few months ago that my black tank appeared to be leaking and we discussed the solutions, new tank, patch the existing, etc. It turned out to be an issue with toilet paper and waste build up from the previous owners. The service guy told me to place a trash can in the bathroom and put the toilet paper in there, and to always add the cleaning stuff to the holding tank after dumping, which we already did. I can picture the sensors getting clogged up or covered by toilet paper that was never dissolved or washed out of the tank. Did the service guy also tell you that that practice was a breeding place for bacteria and diseases! My sister and her late husband did the same thing but I would not even approach the the toilet in they're RV.

RE: Newb question: Stranger approaches your RV

The title of your post starts "Newb question" So in response to the person who asked to use your bathroom,my answer would be no. I bought my RV to have my home on wheels and Im a bit of a germaphobe and am reluctant to use public restrooms. I certainly wont let the public use my private home. As a host, we did have a lady stop with her little girl who needed the bathroom pretty bad and my wife let her use ours and the mother waited in the livingarea with us. It also depends on the family, not to be judgemental but sometimes you can tell who is clean and who is not but a full grown adult stanger is an absolute No!

RE: Fireplace - Yes or No?

A fire place will take a chill off but not heat the RV. I would take the large window. Is it worth it, well the fire place will not do as implied, heat! The large window does as expcted, a great view !
