RE: My Old Kentucky Home State Campground

We have stayed at this c.g. a couple of times without any problems. Our M.H. is 31 ft. long and we have had no problems getting into campsites. The one thing we have noticed is a lot of the campsites might look level but in fact they are not. The sites are all paved. Unfortunately you hit the day they delivered golf carts. Any other time that noise would not be problem. This is a nice area and we would not hesitate to use this c.g. again. Good facilities and reasonable rates.

RE: Ovenight parking Greater Sudbury -Sault Ste Marie

I haven't been up there for a few years now, but there used to be a truck stop on the north side and I think it was before the turn off to Manitoulin Island. It was called Rainbow Truck Stop. It might still be there and work out for you.

RE: Protect your Credit Cards at Syracuse Rally

My understanding is that the OP had a chipped card from Canada. :) Yes that is correct and the card had not been used for months. It was never out of my change purse. The afternoon this happened, we had only been at the Tampa RV show a couple of hours and during that time I had been standing at various vendor's booths along with lots of other people. I feel someone standing close to me had a card reading device and scammed the card. It was used later that day in California Visa assured me they would catch whoever - I would love to know how they do this and what the punishment is.

RE: Protect your Credit Cards at Syracuse Rally

We are fairly certain this card was scammed while it was in my possession and in a crowd of people. It was a new US$ Visa card that I had not used yet. Yes, it is the new RF card. The mishap happened in Tampa and the purchases were made in California (3 hour time change)on the same day. I caught the transactions when I was checking my accounts on line - when I called Visa they had already flagged the account as being suspicious. We never let the card out of our sight - especially in restaurants and gas stations. Be extra cautious with your cards.

RE: Washing clothes at a campground.

If you don't go to the c.g. laundry, how do you hear all the latest gossip. It is also a good place to talk to others about local places of interest and restaurants etc. Meeting others and chatting makes the time go faster but if at all possible, I head back to the M.H. and return to the laundry at the appropriate time.

Protect your Credit Cards at Syracuse Rally

Last January while at the Tampa RV show, I had my Visa credit card compromised to the tune of $1840. From what we can tell, someone with a card reader scammed my card which was in a change purse and inside my fanny pack worn on my front hip. So please be careful while walking around in crowds. Protective cases are available (probably sold at the show), but lining your change purse or wallet with a double thickness of tin foil also works. Just a heads up - it sure was a nuisanse to get my card replaced. moved from Rally forum

RE: Good Sam Club’s 2013 RV Rally Syracuse, New York

Looks like a small crowd for this big event. :B We are going and know about 8 other couples from 2 different camping clubs who are also signed up. Why do you think it is a small crowd? Did you read about the number of registrations somewhere?

RE: Conditons heading south after Christmas

Parrothead Mike: Funny you should mention the Camping World at Exit 22. I had checked the exits along I-65 in the Bowling Green area on the Google satellite images and had seen the Camping World at that exit. I saw that they have many RV parking spaces but wasn't sure if they allowed overnight parking. There is also a Cracker Barrel at that same exit which might also work. I also found Cave Country RV Park north of there at Cave City, KY which might work if it's very cold out and we want electricity. They have all pull-through sites and looks convenient to the highway. I called the C.W.at Bowling Green last December to ask if they had overnight RV parking. They do allow it but have no hookups - some CW do. He suggested the KOA across the highway. KOA wanted about $45 - we decided to go to our usual spot at Cave City. Singing Hills is a PA park - $14 a night, pull thrus and friendly. We usually de-winterize there. They have water and electric available. The only downside is their washrooms are not great but we never use them anyhow. Park is about 3 miles off I-65. In the winter we are not interested in Flying J or W.M. - electricity is a must.

RE: 30 Thousand Islands

Grundy Lake Provincial Park is almost halfway and right off the highway. Good spot for canoeing are several lakes. If you like to bicycle, it is a large enough park so that you can do a decent ride. Killbear Prov. Park is another one to consider. It is right on Georgian Bay and close to Parry Sound which is a pleasant place to explore. For a day trip you might enjoy the drive to Killarney Prov. Park to look around, maybe do a hike or two and have fish & chips at the docks in town. This park is about 45 min. drive off the main highway - the road is good and the park beautiful, but if you want to explore other places around, it is a bit out of the way. All three of these parks are very popular and you may have trouble getting a campsite - a reservation is a must. While in the area be sure to spend a day in Sudbury - several things to see there.

RE: I65 in Birmingham AL awful!!

We always just stay on I-65. I don't remember it being that bad when we drove it in late March. I guess it depends on what you are used to.

RE: Myrtle Beach Travel Park?

I also have a question about this park - are there fireworks like at some of the other parks further south (on a seemingly nightly basis)? My dog freaks out with fireworks to the point that he hardly sleeps at night. We usually go in the Fall and there has never been any organized fireworks when we have been there. I have seen discarded fireworks along the beach though that individuals have set off. You should be far enough back from the beach that your dog should be OK.

RE: Conditons heading south after Christmas

Singing Hills at Cave City is also open. P.A. - $14 a night with good WIFI - hard to beat the price - perfect for an overnight. KOA is very expensive for that time of year for just overnighting.

RE: Conditons heading south after Christmas

We take I-65 south to Florida in mid December. We always stay at c.g.'s and have never had a problem getting a site - usually only a couple of other rv's. There are several c.g.s in Kentucky that are open and most in Alabama are available. There is also a park just north of Nashville at Goodlettsville that is open year round and only about 2 miles off the highway. This is the only park that I am aware of that is often full in the spring with Snowbirds going north. Best to make a reservation. We don't do rest areas so I have no knowledge of their availability.

RE: Panellas Trail

We plan to ride until we are exhausted and then bike back to our campground. If you bike until you are exhausted, then how do you plan to then bike back to the campground? The bus & trolley have bike racks so just hop on and relax all the way back to your campground.

RE: Panellas Trail

Also beware there are rattlesnakes on the island. Not just the "island", they are everywhere in Florida. There are 4 different species of rattlesnakes in Florida and 3 of them inhabit Pinellas County. Yes, I agree - but was told there is a higher concentration on Honeymoon Island. I don't do well around snakes.
