Non staining sun lotion?
Anyone having trouble with sun lotions leaving an orange stain on white cloths and found a non-staining lotion? Apparently they are reacting with the iron in my well water per the internet.

RE: Typical emergency road service?
While camping this weekend our Suburban’s power steering & brakes failed and we used our membership with AAA emergency road service to have it towed home. Making a stressful situation worse the following is a summary:
1. The initial representative informed me of the restrictions before asking any of the details (if the tow truck shows up and we are not around it only waits 5 min, only a one time tow per occasion, etc.)
2. ~45 min. after the initial contact a tow truck operator called from several counties west of us (~150 miles away) saying they were on the way. We quickly established that AAA needed to be contacted again.
3. Second call to AAA…..apparently the first representative was more worried about the restrictions than sending a tow truck operator close to my location. The next representative bounced me to the correct region and to make a long story short we were on our way home ~2.5 hrs after my initial AAA contact.
Is this considered typical for emergency road service? We have been with AAA for years and expected a better / more quality response.
Thanks for the responses everyone. When I picked up my trailer from the campground yesterday I passed by the tow company that AAA finally contacted to help me – only ~10 miles from where my truck was located. I understand mistakes happen and plan on keeping AAA. Hopefully next time the representative will be more concerned about providing quality service than reading me the riot act.
The basic problem was the initial representative was located in the Delaware region and should have transferred me to a representative in the Tidewater region where I was located. Instead she had a tow company from 150 miles away contact me.
Apparently it helps to know the region you are located in or at least make sure your representative is in the region you are located.

Plan to take the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad excursion this year. It originates from downtown Cumberland, Maryland and looking for FHU campground recommendations. Also appreciate any excursion and area info.

RE: Thousand Trails Zone Camping Pass FHU Site Availability
As A thousand Trail member I have never had to go on a site with out water and electricity. I am not a full timer I have a fulltime job so usually a weekend camper only. The earlier you can get to the Campground on a Friday the better off you will be since it is first come first serve on the sites. I have camped Lynchburg, 2 of the 3 campground in Hershey PA area, Chesapeake Bay, Williamsburg, lake Gaston and Virginia Landing. Of course on Holiday weekends all bets are off I recommend you make reservations early a soon as you are allowed if you want to do a holiday weekend.
X2 - Typically FHU not an issue.

Personally, I would let them fix it. Calling your insurance company is a mistake, they will note the rig has been involved in an accident, and later may claim "Pre-existing damage" if you file a claim on it. I would let the dealer fix it, and only accept it if it was done right. If something looks wrong, don't accept it.

Was told when my daughters were on my auto insurance that even though their accidents were not officially their fault they were considered “incidents”.

Camping destinations added to “bucket list” next year?
This year we added Virginia fall festivals to our “bucket list” of camping destinations and had a great time exploring different areas. Next year we plan to add spring festivals.
Anyone planning on additional destinations for the “bucket list” next year?

RE: What was your biggest RV mistaake?
1. Not checking out the tire and axle capacity on my TT before buying– both were “on the edge”.
2. Not looking into a water leak after asking DW “Do you hear something that sounds like water dripping?” Pressboard and water do not mix.

I tow a ~7000 lb – 27ft trailer with a 2500-6L (2001) with no problem. I tow with OD off and average 8.5 mpg towing, 13-14 mpg normal. Depending on your expectation it does fine in mountains. On long inclines I’ve had to drop to 2nd to keep up with (or pass) the tractor trailers. If you plan on doing lots of mountain camping and like to blast by all of us in the right lane on inclines go for a stronger motor.

I would not consider a Suburnan 1500 for anything but general people hauling. Instead get the 2500. You won't regret the upgrade to the 6.0 liter motor nor the heavier duty components.

Love my 2001-2500, lots of room and comfort. The 6L has enough power to pull my ~7000 lb 27ft and has a transmission temp gauge. I bought this after towing with a 1999 Yukon with a 5.7L – enough difference to feel “comfortable”.

RE: Virginia Creeper Trail
Will be a great trip! Make sure to save some time to visit Abington. A friend and I rode the trail last month from Whitetop to Damascus; gorgeous views and all down hill. We ate at the Creeper Trail Café about half way on the trail. The shuttle fee from Damascus of $13 is well worth it. I’m a “biker” so I still felt the need to ride uphill but I will do that next time.
I stayed at the friends place and was also wandering about campgrounds. I plan to go back again with my wife and spend some time in Abington.

where do you wish to visit on lake erie?
Thanks everyone for the great info. We are looking a location with the “most bang for the buck” that is no more than 2 days (or 10 hrs) away. We originally thought we would stay at a Thousand Trails park in Jefferson Ohio but are open to other suggestions. We spend most of our time with anything regarding history and love tours (lake and land) more so than amusement parks. Pam’s suggestions look interesting - East Harbor in Ohio (~10 hrs) and Sara Coyne Campground in PA (8.5hrs). Clear as mud…..I’m sure we will need to make more than one trip.

Thanks everyone – Mary B’s is the best! The 2.2 oz buttermilk is good but they also offer a 3.5oz breakfast sandwich size. I contacted customer service and found a store 17 miles away that stocks them. I’ll jump on the motorcycle one day a buy a couple bags.

Looking for Lake Erie campgrounds – traveling from Virginia
We passed by Lake Erie from taking my daughter to a camp in Michigan in 2006 and my wife wanted to stop. I said “not now – we’ll go back”. It’s time to “ante up”. We belong to RPI and they have a campground in New Lyme, Ohio - MillBrook Outdoor Resort. We also belong to Thousand Trails and they have one in Jefferson, OH 44047.
Would be good hear from someone that knows the area to advise.

RE: Scared to buy
We bought a new TT because it was exactly what we were looking for…it was discounted a fair amount…..and are tired of always buying used stuff. Five years later I can go though a list of problems I’ve fixed. Ours is a 27ft Forest River Cherokee and lots of quality issues - including the suspension on the edge of capacity (replaced tires and an axle). Had a water leak under the kitchen sink – lots of replacing contact paper. Last weekend had the weather-stripping under the slide out fall off. Not sure if this helps but after 5 years of owning a TT and reading forums – the words quality and the RV industry do not go together.
