RE: Propane Bottle Brand

What I've done with a cyl that's over date is just take someplace that exchanges the empty cyl for full ones. Never had anyone check for date just that it had the OPD valves. Sure it cost a couple of bucks over having them filled, but a lot cheaper then buying new ones, and then I just have the cyls filled when empty like before. Just exchange it out.

RE: Difficulty Getting Trailer Coupler to Secure to Hitch Head

Ron, I'm sorry but I MUST disagree about unloading the front axle once the trl is hooked. Any time the front of the TV is raised over the normal unhook height you are taking weight OFF the front axle which WILL effect steering control ESPECALLY on wet raods, you will be more likely to hyrdoplan with less weight on the front axle. We all know that just because engineers come up with something doesn't mean that it'll work or should be done. On paper verses everyday use and experience are 2 different things. I'll shift some weight to the front axle every time. Look at the 5th wheel hitch placement, right over or slightly in front of the rear axle center line - shifting weight to the front axle - lowering the body line.

RE: Difficulty Getting Trailer Coupler to Secure to Hitch Head

Eight washers are TOO many, you've put such an angle on the ball that the trl hitch can not possible lock onto it. Also if the front of your TV is still going up then you DO NOT have the hitch set right. Take the number of washers down to 5 AT MOST. Then go to the Equilizer Hitch web site and follow there directions on setting up the hitch. I had to do this AFTER the dealer set mine up because it was WAY off. My trk was way up in the front and the trl was not level. After following the MFGR direction the rear body went down 1" and the front DOWN 3/4". The purpose of the WD hitch is to transfer trl weight from the rear axle to the front axle and also back to the trl Any time the front of the TV is raised when coupled to the trl it is not adjusted right. The last thing you want to do is TAKE WEIGHT OFF the front axle, your steering will be effected.

RE: Nose down while towing

You'd be surprised at the number of dealers that have NO IDEA how to PROPERLY set up a WD hitch (including the 1 I bought mine from). Then with most people believing the dealers know what their doing go on their merry way fat dumb and happing thinking all is right, and haul a** down the road at 70 and then wonder why the trl is yanking then all over the road.

RE: Safe to get diesel fuel when tanker is filling tanks?

If the station is a high volumn station i.e. Petro, T/A, Flying "J" then I wouldn't worry. Having drove truck for 20 years and filled up 100's of time with the tanker dropping fuel with no issues. Like the previous post said, back when the pumps did not have an inline filter right at the filler hose so yes then dirt etc would pass. Now most everyone has the inline filter. That being said if I pulled into a station and did not see the inline filter I probably wouldn't fuel there even if there was no tanker dropping fuel.

RE: Need Help! One way tow vehicle rental for TT

The insurance company responsible to provide the Veh is the persones ins that was at fault. The ins co. will never say anything about this up front unless you PUSH THE ISSUE with them. The info I provided is a direct quote from an ins agent on another forum where a similar incident was posted. The ins co actually had to provide the person who was NOT at fault with a Rolls Royce because that was the veh involved in the accident, woth the length of time it took to repair the veh.

RE: Need Help! One way tow vehicle rental for TT

By law the insurace company of the person at fault is required to provide you with a vehicle of equal value, and capability. MAKE the other guys insurance company provide you with a rental truck with equal or greater capability then yours was. Then tow the TT home.

RE: Please unconfuse a poor slow mind. Weight

lincoln30: If you're taking about the YELLOW sticker that lists the trls unladen weight and trls gross weight, and the trl is a 2011 or newer then the unladen wieght is the weight of the trl as it rolled off the ASM line, completed. As Ron Grats cites the Fed Reg that requires RV Mfgrs to show the trls actual weight once the unit is ready for shipment.

RE: Rockwood trailers

We're on our 2nd Rockwood. The first was a ROO hybrid that was prone to leak on the front bunk door, which as a pretty common issue with the earlier ones. We now have a Rockwood 2604 Ultra Lite. No mechanical/electrical or structural problems with either unit. For the price I think they're great units.

RE: Navistar loses in court- folly of it own choices

To throw a different spin on the P/U, LDT motor issue, read a report (Don't remember source) the other month that 1. Dodges contract is up with Cummins next year, and speculation is that Cummins is going to Ford, and 2. that Dodge is going with Mercedes motor, and 3. Dodge will next year be bring back the Dakota with a small diesel, and also a diesel Durango - Mercedes?

RE: Dodge ram 1500 with 3.55 rear end

With my Dakota the 3.55's had a 5000lb towing, but going to the 3.92's the towing was 7000lbs, so there is a difference in not only capacity, but fuel economy, pulling hills, etc.

RE: "old" F-150 needs new TT for fun and vacation

We have the Rockwood Ultra Lite 2602 and LOVE IT, it grosses at 6600, and comes from the factory at about 5800 with propane battery etc. Trl body is 26'4"" making it about 30' tip to tail.

RE: Bottom Trim on Rockwood TT coming loose -- how to reattach?

Pull the plactic insert loose from the middle of the trim piece. There you'll find a wood screw. It's likely that the screw was put in at a slight angle and missed the wood flooring. TAKE THE SCREW OUT, and put one in that's about 1" longer ensuring that it goes in straight. Then recaulk the area of the trim that was loose. If you're going to repair it do it right the first time, then there'll be no messing with it later over and over again.

RE: 2013 Rockwood 2604

We have a 2012 2604, and with the 2 small closets it's enough space to hang shirts for a 2 week trip. I put my shorts and pants folded in the cubby over the chairs and the DW folds hers and puts them in the drawrs under the bed. Yes the closets are a little small but in a 2 week period you'll probably do laundy once at least, so the smaller closets aren't really an issue unless you want to put a months worth of cloths in each one. The space under the mattress works great for direty cloths

RE: Electric awning - no adjustment and no tie down

With our electric awning I made a set of support poles that I place at each end of the awning roller, and then use a regular awning tie down kit. The support poles prevent any pressure on the awning mounts on the side of the trl or any pull on the awning fabric its self where its attached to the side of the trl. We've has winds that have damaged other awnings and ours just bounceds a little but stays great. Also our awning is 20' long and extends 8' out from the trl so it's not some small awning.
