RE: MPG on recent year 40 foot Phaeton?

Come to Canada. With our gallon you'll get a 20% increase in mpg and you won't even have to slow down! Mind you our litres are pretty expensive :S

RE: How much can the landing gears lift?

Yea, it'll do it. I see trucks hanging from 5th wheels all the time. That's the way I rotate my duallie's tires.

RE: Parking fifth wheel on a grade

I've used fairly large wood blocks under my landing gear. My landing gear pads had 1/2"? holes in them. All my blocks had holes drilled in them as well, and I had bolts that I would drop through the pads into the blocks so that the pads could not slip off the blocks. This idea may work for you in the situation you will be in.

RE: Electrical System Brainteaser

When 'Shurflo' first came out with a roof vent exhaust fan I purchased one and installed it in one of my roof vents. Then I started burning out light bulbs, the little bathroom exhaust fan, even the batteries were getting overheated, etc. I checked the voltage on my light fixtures since they seemed to get brighter every time the 'Shurflo' fan came on. Sure enough I was getting readings of more than 20 volts! The fan was feeding higher voltage back into the 12V system when it was operating! I contacted 'Shurflo' and they admitted that their ceiling vent fans were causing some problems in some trailers. They had redesigned their circuit boards as a result of these problems and added a diode to boards where the power supply was connected. They sent me a diode to connect between the incoming power wire and the connection to the fan and all my problems immediately disappeared.
I would suggest that you go to an electronics store and pick up and install a diode to the wire that connects your radio. I think that will solve your problem.

RE: Water regulator location

I had a 'house style' water filter between my pressure regulator and the connector on the trailer. I also had a 90* brass fitting on the hose so that the hose was vertical just before the connection into the regulator. I didn't want all that weight pulling down on the trailer fitting, so I added a spacer at the bottom of the water filter case so that the bottom of the filter pushed against the trailer siding thereby supporting the whole arrangement. The net effect was that the weight didn't matter since all it did to the trailer connection was to tend to pull it outward which was not a problem. It worked very well (I've since sold that trailer). You may be able to make a custom bracket that clamps onto your fittings and provides support to the trailer wall about a foot or so below the trailer water inlet which would have the same effect.

Shaw Direct Coverage
Shaw Direct's signal covers most parts of north America, including Canada, USA and Mexico.
Canada
Shaw Direct offers a 60cm / 24 inch dish across Canada for reception of Anik F-1 and Anik F2. The Shaw Direct 75cm satellite dish will be required throughout northern Canada (Yukon, NWT, Nunavut). Larger yet for extreme north locations.
USA
Recommended antenna size for same satellite in U.S. border areas is 75 cm (30 inches), increasing to 90 cm (36 inches) for the rest of the Lower 48. A 90 cm antenna is advised for Hawaii. Alaskan locations should check by location; populated areas connected to the main highway system can generally use a 90 cm to 1.2 meter antennas. Areas to the West and Southwest may find reception requiring 1.2 meter and larger antennas. Reports from users all over the continental USA show more than adequate reception using the standard 24 inch dish.
Monday, April 18th, 2013 at approximately, 12:35 pm MDT, Anik G1 was launched into orbit from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Our third satellite is now in orbit, 35,786 km above the equator and will be fully functional in late May.
The new satellite, Anik-G1, will enable the largest HD channel launch in Canada to date and give Shaw Direct the most satellite capacity of any provider in Canada.
The rocket launch is over but our mission at Shaw Direct is just beginning. RE: Refrigerator temp

We've done both the 6-7 hour and the 14 hour ferries (twice). Since the fridge is not opened during the crossing the temperature inside the fridge does not rise enough to worry about the increased temperature inside. For the longer trip just turn off the propane when you see you're about to board and turn it back on as soon as you are back on terra firma. It's also colder in the hold of the ship as you cross, so the food will be fine.

RE: No propane Help!!!

You many have tripped the excessive flow prevention valve on the tank...
Turn the cylinder valve on very slowly and only open it about 1/4 turn. Wait several seconds. This is because there is an excess flow valve built into the connection between the the cylinder and hose. This valve is designed to sense if the hose is cut or ruptures and will significantly reduce the flow of propane in that case. By only opening it a bit, you are only letting a small amount of gas through to "charge" the line with propane. If you hear a "click" the excess flow valve activated. You need to close the cylinder valve, wait a few seconds and start over.

RE: screws in walls

Just drill a small hole to the point where it penetrates only the wall panel. Then take a straightened out paper clip and push it into the wall cavity and feel for items inside the wall. If you feel no resistance you can put in wood screws as far as your paper clip went into the wall. Any electrical wires will not be punctured unless they are forced into something solid inside. If you feel unsure about doing it this way you can use screws that have the points ground off, or if you have some,... use screws without sharp points on the business end.

RE: Inside Stairs

On our Laredo we had the high steps outside. I cut a 2"X10" to fit on top of the top step. Another (doubled up) 2"X10" on the middle step and triple layer 2"X10" on the bottom step. Then I built a platform in front of the bottom step so that I ended up with 8" steps instead of the original 9.5" steps. I carpeted them and screwed them to the OEM steps and they were much easier to negotiate. That should work inside as well... and if you carpet them before you screw them down on the existing steps they can be made to look pretty good as well!!

RE: Water line leaking under clear water tank Newvbie?

Looks like the low point drains underneath. There should be a cap on those two plastic tubes. Maybe the caps are loose? Try turning them clockwise.

RE: Tongue weight on hitch overnight?

It's OK as long as the trailer is fairly level. I wouldn't do it if your trailer (fridge) is too far off level. You don't want to run into problems with the refridgerator!!

RE: Custom mattress

Buy a 2.5" memory foam topper, cut the corner at the same angle as your existing mattress and customize the topper cover to match. We have had to add a topper to every trailer we have owned and that has worked very well. The OEM mattresses are terrible!

RE: Newbie and bearings

Take it straight in. It is a safety issue (brakes). It may require pulling the axle if it is a bearing seal (not just the bearing) and the longer you wait the more expensive it will get.

RE: Big problem with Camping World of Rochester, NY

Casperboy... I fully understand your issue. My BIL bought an intermediate awning support from that same store a few years ago only to find out that the box contained an awning arm instead of the support. After trying a number of times to get this sorted out he finally gave up. He's still out the money he spent but he's no longer shopping there!

RE: Bird nest in pin box

I had a small piece of indoor/outdoor carpeting left over from one of my 'projects'. I drilled some holes into the steel pinbox framework and (using some steel washers and self tapping screws) fastened the carpet to the pinbox so that it was completely inaccessible to birds. It worked well!

RE: Trailer Brakes

Hook it up to the tow vehicle and have someone else press the brake pedal while you listen at the hubs. You should hear a slight hum at each wheel as the brakes are applied. Have the other person push and release the pedal and you should be able to tell which wheels are working. Then check for a severed wire. If there aren't any signs of loose or separated wires you will need to pull the wheels to see if they are severed inside the wheels.

RE: Question about exterior trim

Use clear ProFlex RV caulking. Pull out the trim where it has come apart and just put small stretches.. maybe 1/2 inch long on both sides of the trim where the rubber fits into the grooves. Press the trim back into place, wipe of excess carefully and wait 24 hours for it to set well before going back on the road. This has worked well for me. This will last as long as you have the trailer.
