RE: How close to your vehicles "tow rating" are you?

11,300 rated. Pulling 5,500. Makes for a very comfortable tow.

RE: 2013 Ford Explorer or 2012 Dodge Durango

The 3.5 Ecoboost is a better tow vehicle than the Hemi because of the low RPM torque characteristics. The Durango chassis may have higher capacity than the Explorer though. So, it depends.

RE: What was your first Tow Vehicle?

My first tow vehicle was my 1953 Columbia bicycle! :W

RE: Acceptable RPMs and Temps in Mountains

I found this on the web one time for life expectancy of ATF 175°F 100,000 miles 195°F 50,000 miles 212°F 25,000 miles 235°F 12,000 miles 255°F 6,250 miles 275°F 3,000 miles 295°F 1,500 miles 315°F 750 miles 335°F 325 miles 355°F 160 miles 375°F 80 miles 390°F 40 miles 415°F Less than 30 minutes I've seen these tables and in some cases they are no longer applicable. The new F150s run normally at 195 degrees. (Chevy boys feel free to post a derogatory comment here if it makes you feel better!) Times are changing. Materials and lubricants have improved. I'm betting that the reason is increased fuel economy. I watch the fuel economy feedback on my F150 and it definitely gets better mileage once the tranny gets to full operating temperature.

RE: Acceptable RPMs and Temps in Mountains

That's a lot of trailer for 335 lbs of torque . . . and even less in the mountains . . .

RE: Computerized Stuff on new Ford - aarg

Just started learning how to manage/get the computerized stuff under control on the 2012 F 250. This is just a plane ole XLT. Maybe if I spend an hour or two in there playing with the info, setup, and reset buttons I will feel a little more at ease :S They do have it rigged so it is relatively easy to crank it up and get it off the lot. :W I haven't even started wrestling with how to set up the trailer brakes yet. Hope I don't have to hire a local wizz kidd. :B When we took delivery of our 2013 Edge, we had a hour long 'class' where dealer tech guy walked us thru the MFT, Sync, and many features of the vehicle. I bet you could find similar instruction @ your dealer. After the dealership experience, my wife and I have spent another half hour or so, not driving time and we're very comfortable with the system now. I find myself saying, "I wonder if it will do this" and then I hit the voice button and shazam, yep, it does that. X2! Sync takes a little time to learn but the benefits are huge! Agree that the sound system is quite good for a stock system; better than our Audi!! (Aw geez, meant to quote the post above this one)

RE: ecoboost max trailer max tow

There will be no comparison in engine braking between your Duramax and the Ecoboost. The Eco is only 3.5 liters and gassers don't have the engine braking that diesels have. The transmission does automatically downshift to try to help control speed on downhills; that part works beautifully. But the Eco is doesn't provide a lot of engine braking. It is a wonderful powertrain and truck though.

RE: New Ford F 150 with 5 liter V8

Any truck forum is dominated by a few people who are having a problem and want to tell the world. The Ecoboost is a very solid, reliable, capable performer. People with brand envy would like to bring it down. But the marketplace is telling the story. It is a kick-a$$ towing machine.

RE: Getting ready to order Eco Boost

OK, Obviously the do have the max payload for the EB. I talked to the dealer and they are unable at this point to locate one with the Max Payload. So if I want one I would have to order it. Unfortunately I would nto get most of the rebates. Right now there are 5k in rebates and I would only qulify for 1k in rebates. You will get rebates based upon purchase date. Could be less, could be more. No telling what Ford marketing will be up to in 60 days. Disagree on that. You should get the better of when you ordered or when you take delivery. That's the way my order worked.

RE: Need to hear real world mileage from F150 HD ecoboost owners

This engine is very Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde. That is probably why I love it :) Exactly! Driven responsibly, it delivers great fuel mileage. But heavy use of the available HP and torque will allow you to drive it down considerably. What else would you expect? I'm very happy with my Eco fuel mileage. This is the "magic" of turbo'd engines. Economical when driven smartly; a real beast when you need the power. My turbo Jetta was exactly the same way.

RE: Trans temp

My 2012 F150 runs at 193 unloaded; it's normal point. On our recent 3,300 mile towing trip, I never saw a trans temp over 197. It manages itself very nicely. We hit some pretty good sized climbs in NW Arkansas and it never budged more than a couple of degrees. We have the Max Tow package and that might make some difference.

RE: Getting ready to order Eco Boost

Yep, that's******on the rebates. The dealer is trying to force you into a truck he already has on the lot. I agree with others who recommend the HD payload option for your trailer.

RE: New 2012 Ecoboost F-150 V6

I was out last weekend and saw a new 150 HD pulling a 30' TT. He was towing at 50mph and was all over the lane. The entire rig was unstable. I was pulling the same basic size trailer without any drama. The conditions were poor, gusty winds. I would not recommend a 150 HDfor anything over a 24' light weight. The truck is not living up to its hype. MM49 The "if it ain't no dually, it ain't no real truck" crowd has spoken. Yep! It's pretty funny really.
