RE: Condensation inside

Agree with the dehumidifier, the damp-rid buckets are fine for storing over the winter un-occupied without heat but with the heat on and occupied the only way to prevent it is with a dehumidifier.

RE: What do you do? Winter storing tips.

Dont know if you have the space or the $$ but if you could store it out of the weather all year long when your not using it would help keep it looking new for years, even if its just a cover to keep the rain and sun off of it. (RV Port/pole barn, etc) No I dont have the space to be able to store it indoors all the time. That would be the best situation but that wont happen. But I figure in the months it is out I can wax it, protect the tires and that with keeping indoors I bet it puts a extra 5 years on the life. I just couldnt believe how much worse it was every spring. I would agree with you on that. If you ever were to get a leak over the winter that would be the one you most likley would not find till spring after the most damage is done, plus you just cant go out and wash it down in the middle of winter.

RE: Portable generator has a dryer outlet, need it for 30 amp TT

Not sure what kind of portable generator you are using but if its a contractor type of generator like a troy built etc, you will only draw 15 amp amp on one leg of that 30 amp plug, (found out for myself), not an expert on this but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

RE: Putting ladder on rear of Travel Trailer

Those ladders are not as strong as you might think they are, even those that are installed at the factory. I dont think they would hold up very long unless you only weigh around 120lbs. I ordered mine with a ladder but always use a large step ladder to clean and check the roof. I just never wanted to take the chance of it pulling from the wall and leaving a hole or a gap to fill.

RE: weight on roof

Unless you got more money than you know what to do with, I would not do it at all, but thats just me cause I dont have that kind of money.

RE: Good places in/near Lakeview, OH?

There is one weekend during Oct that they have thier Halloween campout, you might have trouble getting in there if it happens to fall during that event. Its a nice state camp ground but only has around a dozen full hook up sites.

RE: 2" or 2-1/2" Receiver?

If your main concern is the ability to to increase your reciever TW rating w/o weight distribution I see no reason to go to a 2 1/2 inch if you can get a rating of 1950 lbs on a 2" reciever. I dont think there are many 2 1/2 recievers with ratings more than that anyway. (w/o weight distribution)

RE: 2" or 2-1/2" Receiver?

If you want to stay with a 2" reciever you may look at the Draw-tite #41944. I bought this hitch for my 2500HD, it has a TW of 1950lbs w/o WD and 1650lb with, 16000lb limit. I know the T/W sounds backwards, I thought it was a "typo" error but I called Draw-tite to verify and they said it was correct, (the way it ia welded makes it possable according to them) This rates up there with the 2 1/2 in recievers. You can find this on E-trailer.com.

RE: Truck is getting old.

I would keep it, at least you know what you have now.

RE: 13.5k vs. 15k BTU A/C unit. Is it much cooler?

When we ordered ours it was only about a $150 option. Thats only a little more than a tank of fuel now, its like being "penny wise and pound foolish"

RE: Palomino

We were camping at the state park near Lakeview Ohio and stopped at RV Wholesalers to pick up a few items and they had about a dozen of them there. They seemed to be well built and they were well equiped nice looking fivers. Dont know anyone that has bought one yet but if I was looking for one that size I'd have to consider giving that one a real good look over.

RE: GMC 2500HD... should I?!

I think your wise in holding off until you find out what RV you decide on, also I think most often you do better selling your vehicle outright yourself and work to get the best deal w/o a trade in. Most often I have found that they usually fudge around with the figures to make it look like the deal of the century and they probaly want your vehicle cause they know they can get top dollor for it themselves.

RE: porpoising????

I would bet you will see a big difference when you change out the reciever, I did on mine just about a week ago. My old hitch was clean, no rust, no cracks, but I could see it flex quite a bit when I pulled the bars up. The realization came when I was on my back under the truck zipping out the bolts with my impact wrench with one hand and holding the reciever with the other. When I took out the last bolt I had no problem laying the whole reciever over to the side with my one free arm. I'd say it must weigh somewhere in the mid 30lb range, and to think I've been towing TW of about 1150 lbs, no wonder it would porpose on the un-even roads. I was well with-in its labled weight range, I just dont know how it held up as well as it did after getting it off and looking over it. I had to use the floor jack to hold the Draw Tite hitch up there until I got the bolts started. It weighs nearly 70lbs, almost twice the weight of the OEM hitch! What make/model/year truck is this? Its a 2001 Chevy 2500HD, I bought it new, its got aprox 79000 miles on it now.

RE: Usable Life of a Truck

Think of it this way, those things you mentioned needing fixed would'nt even be close to one payment on a new truck!

RE: porpoising????

we will see....what hitch did you get? I got a Draw-Tite "Ultra Frame" #41944 from e-trailer, almost got the Draw-tite titan hitch but didnt want to mess with the 2 1/2 inch-2" adaptor but this hitch has nearly the same weight ratings and its actually heavier than the titan hitch. There are a lot of positive reviews on the curt recievers as well.

RE: 6.0 excursion towing

6 inch lift will create an unstable towing platform in my opinion, particulary with a loaded toy hauler depending on the weight your hauling back there.

RE: Are Most RV Dealers (and some mfgs) Unresponsive???

I would look at this way, they are really doing you a favor, if they are that unresponsive about selling you one, can you imagine how unresponsive they'll be about doing any service on your RV if you have to take in for a problem? They are basicly telling you to move on down the road!

RE: Tried out my new hitch today

What year GM truck? 2001 2500HD, I bought it new and is has never been a "daily driver" and has spent most of its time in in the garage, but I always noticed it really flexed quite a bit hooking up the WD bars and reading so many negative post about these older hitches, I felt it was time. Should have done it sooner!
