RE: 5th wheel keys for main door

Not to get off subject but you might try your friends and neighbors with RV's to see if their key works on your lock as they may have a spare. Was surprised a friend and I go RVing all the time and I misplaced my keys. He has a Forest River and I have a Northwood and he said lets see if my keys work. Well yes his key opened my front door. I guess similar to the CH751 keys that open all bay doors.
Who would have known! Just a FYI.

RE: Like a Fox ... Artic Fox that is.

From your request looks like you want new. While having a dealer close would be nice, Arctic Fox only has a 1 year warranty like most other brands. If you plan on travelling a lot local dealer is not much help. Speaking from having 2 Arctic Foxes (1 a 27ft) like what your looking at both only had 1 minor problem to fix during the PDI. As Northwood has great customer service, I'm sure they would work with you to get any problem fixed while on the road.
If used any good RV repair facility could fix any problem.
Good Luck

RE: Progressive Insurance for 5th Wheel

Currently with Progressive on everything. Have been with them for 3 years. This year compared with State Farm, Liberty Mutual and Nationwide. State Farm is about the same, Nationwide and Liberty Mutual are $700 less. In fact Nationwide gives higher coverage amounts than the rest at $700 less annual premium cost. In April at renewal time will change to Nationwide.

RE: Newb here

LED has given some good info. As you consider what type of RVing your going to do you will also need to consider things like are you going out in the forest somewhere (known as boondocking) no hook ups etc, or are you going to campgrounds with hook-ups (electric, water & sewer) or some mixture, state or national parks etc. Also if you buy a class A or C consider you may depending on what you do need a "toad". If you want to do 4 season camping it requires the addition of 4 season or polar packages.
Also keep in mind the first RV will NOT be your last. You will find after some time things you want/need and will trade for something else. Consider buying used the first time. These things depreciate rapidly!
Good Luck and take your time looking at as much as possible. Also do not believe anything a RV salesperson tells you. Do your own research.

RE: Water Heater question.

I had this happen to me in the shower also on another 5er. Found out it was the check valve on the heater. Replace it or remove it, and your problem will be solved. As a plus if you remove it you will not get the cold water when you first turn on the shower anymore.

RE: Artic Fox 32-5 M - seeking advice

Twins,
As a FYI June 18th through the 23rd, at the factory in LaGrande, OR Arctic Fox, Nash and Snow River are having a rally. Factory tours, lectures and supplier presentations including some other activities is on the agenda. So far 50 rigs are signed up. If you can attend might be of value.

RE: New Arctic Fox 22GQ

FYI,
A couple of things to consider. First Northwood has its own owners forum www.afnash.com. Cost like $25 per year, but you get questions answered directly by AF owners. Second they have a rally June 18th throught the 23rd in La Grande, OR with factory lectures, and factory tours etc that you may want to attend.

RE: new

Don't know how the prices are in Canada compared to the US, but you may want to consider Heartland, Keystone, Jayco or Montana's. Northwood products may be above your price range, but check them out anyway.
Take your time and look at everything you can. Even used one to see how they stand up to usage.

RE: Extended Warranty on a 2013 jayco 5th wheel

Keep in mind it is not a warranty like on your vehicle. Its a insurance policy. Check the fine print and see whats not covered and the process you are required to follow to have a claim approved. As stated above if it gives you peace of mind do it. Look at Good Sams program. Might be less expensive.

RE: 2011 3500HD

I pull a 12,000lb GVWR 10,350lb "Empty" 5er with the truck in my signature and while I have not weighed it, as said above the GM 5er weight spec is 17,300. I would not pull the 5er your considering with anything less than a dually. Some even recommend a HDT or MD. I did trade in a Dodge 3500HD dually 6.7 for this current truck and love it!

RE: Retirement and Investment Risk

I retired at 57, and sit at about 40% stocks/tax exempt muni bonds and 60% mix of cash and metals. I also set up a budget (and stick to it).
Am now 67, took SS at 62, and current portfolio princple is above when I started.
A financial adviser is a good idea to help set-up your program. Then execute it. Whatever you do do not buy any annuities.

RE: Some 5th wheels actually advertise R-38 ceiling/floor.....

Be careful. Not all R values are created equal. Went to a Foresr River Blue Ridge and it was advertised to have better R values than the Arctic Fox we traded for it. Spent the winter in Phoenix and the thing was cold & drafty. Traded it back for a Arctic Fox. I know they are tight! So far this year even in 20+ degree weather (yes even in Phoenix) we have been warm and toasty. In most cases you get what you pay for. Look at Cedar Creek, Montana, Bighorn and Cardinals. Might find them in your price range.

RE: Intermittent Furnace failure

Bud,
The furnace is a Suburban model SF-35. Looking at the users manual, it does not show where the circuit board is. Is it necessary to remove the furnace housing to get to the circuit board? Have screens over the exhaust ports of the furnace and it ran OK for the past 10 days and only in the last 2 is it acting up. Also have FHU's with a Progressive Industries Power Converter/Surge Protector, so I know power is not a issue.
When I turn the thermastat off its almost like a computer reboot. Seems to clear the problem and then the furnace runs normal. Would it do this if the thermocouple sail switch or other non electrical parts were not operating normally?

RE: Intermittent Furnace failure

After it reaches the desired temp and it shuts off it does not come on again at all when the temp drops and I have to turn the thermastat off and on again to get it to start. Then it starts up again and runs fine.

Intermittent Furnace failure

Need some help. The last 2 mornings when I get up in the morning I kick up the furnace to 73. Starts right up and reaches required temps then shut off. Will not go back on. I then turn the furnace off and back on reset the temp to 73 and it goes back on normally.
Did a search, but the only thing I could find was a possible bad board. Has anyone experienced a similar problem and what was the cause and solution?
Thanks

RE: Arizona has two prices for diesel

Where I live, 2 of the stations I go to sometimes use to give the 8 cent discount, but you had to go in and give license number and they gave you the difference in cash. Last year they just incorporated the discount at the pump they say. However didn't notice a difference from other stations price wise. Now I mostly fill up at Fry's grocery stations where I get between 10 & 30 cents discount per gallon depending on the amount I spend in the grocery store. 10 cents for every $100 spent.
Don't know about other states, but if you have a 3500 (1ton) diesel in Arizona you get a comercial plate if you want it or not.

RE: Should I be concerned or not? (Weights)

I pulled a old style 27-5L (12,000lb GVWR)with a 06 Ram 2500HD for over 50,000 miles without a problem. I was over the trucks GVWR by 1,200lbs because I had a 50 gallon aux. tank. As said above you will not be doing anything different than many other RVers. Is it the best combo, maybe not but only you can decide.

RE: 2013 Arctic Fox 25w

If you are interested go to the af/nash owners website. Will cost $25 or so to join, but will get access to AF/Nash owners. Also if interested they have a AF/Nash Rally at the factory in LaGrande in June. Enjoy your new TT.
