RE: Have I plugged up my black tank drain?

... When I flushed the tank I could hear the fluid draining, but the duration was not that long compared to the grey tank, which is of equal volume and full to the same level. The black tank should empty faster than the gray tank. Gray uses 1.5 inch pipes, black uses 3 inch pipes. However, you may have had a wad of TP clog the valve opening. I agree with the previous posters that you should add water now to prevent all that mess from drying out. Get to a dump station where you're not rushed. Fill the black tank with water (hose to the toilet or buckets of water), then open the valve again. More water volume should wash all the 'stuff' out. I would also recommend a clear sewer connection so you can see when you have clear (or almost clear) water running out of the tank. Not on mine, both black and grey have 3" lines.

RE: How Do I Charge, and Maintain 2 New 6 Volt Batteries???

I do a lot of 2-3 day dry camping trips. I think the best bang for the buck is to keep the old batteries that you took out (assuming they were still good) and to use them as reserve. This is what I do- I upgraded to two 2GC batteries but kept my old pair of GP24's and boxes. If I'm taking a trip that I need an extra day's use out of, I charge the GP24's at home and stick them in the back of my tow vehicle in the boxes and strap them down so they don't spill. Then when the main bank of 6V batteries gets too depleted for my tastes I disconnect them, pull them off the tongue, and replace them with one or both of the GP24's, remembering to wire them in parallel instead of series. Whamo, full batteries. All this cost me was not getting the core charge back from the GP24's. I might wire in an extra battery box under the hood of my TV so I can charge the GP24's while driving, but so far I haven't needed this. I don't bother to take them with me when I'm going someplace that has hookup or just for 2 nights. At home, I just store them in a shed with a battery tender on them and check the water once in a while. An extra set of batteries weighs about as much as a generator but it's much cheaper to replace if it gets lost or stolen. When the GP24's wear out I'll get another pair of 2GC's and put them in the rotation.

RE: Freshwater Tank Refilling - What Do You Do?

I fill mine from a 7 gallon jug with a funnel that has a plastic bendy straw style hose extension. Got it for $5 or so at Walmart.

RE: inverter size

That's a 55 amp converter. It converts 120V into 12V at up to 55 amps and charges the batteries.

RE: 6 Volt Battery Issue

I think you have a single shorted cell, but not the one with low water. The cell that lost water was because it boiled out- it saw more voltage than the shorted cell. I think it is very unlikely that you can recover this one and you need to swap it out.

RE: Disabling Dometic Fridge always on 12 volt anti-condensate

The Dometic fridge I have (2012 model year trailer) does not have an anti-condensation switch- I've removed the panel and confirmed its absence. If I feel the top panel of the trim around the fridge, it gets warm to the touch. The strip was fed from the same wires as the bulb/switch. The way to tell which wires feed the heater and which feed the bulb is to clip one of them- if the bulb still works, that was the heater wire. The bulb and heater are wired in parallel. On mine, the heater was the one with the thicker insulation. Instead of wiring in a switch I got a spade lug terminal "jumper" so I could just disable it by connecting or disconnecting the spade lug. I camp in a lot of humid situations with shore power in the winter and dry camp in the summer. There should be a wiring diagram in the back hatch of the fridge. Mine has one, but it does not quite match the one shown in this manual: http://www.dometic.com/70929b7e-1a0d-4946-86a2-5633cc8e329a.fodoc Mine does not show a switch between the heating element and the bulb. I'll try to snap a picture of it later this week when it is light.

RE: To BIG?

Several considerations here. One not yet mentioned is some campgrounds , USFS for example, have a length limit. We find it amusing that those who can finally afford more space really do not need it. Yeah, I was pretty happy with the length of my 25' Passport this weekend backing it into a very short State Park site across from someone who left his TV parked sticking out into the road. That's the first time I've needed to release my WD bars to back up.

RE: Residential refrigerator in now time to buy inverter

If I go with the 2000w 3000w surge inverter what do I need to put a fuse on the positive cable and if so how big. That would be bear in a big 2 gauge or bigger cable. For applications that allow ANL style fuses (Class T have a faster blow), you can also use these: 300A Battery Terminal Fuse which mount to a battery terminal. You need a little bit of headroom in your battery box, but mine fits fine on my Costco 2GC 6V battery in a marine 6V battery box.

RE: slide operation after boon docking

It depends on how your TV is wired. The wiring from the 7-way trailer connector is usually pretty light weight and might not provide enough current. However, if you have a pair of jumper cables and connect them between your (running) TV battery and the trailer battery that should provide enough juice.

RE: Sanitizing Fresh Water tank...although we never drink it

I sanitize whenever I haven't turned over the water in the tank for a few weeks. Normally this is just after dewinterization, since I use the trailer a lot. I don't use any pink stuff except for the traps... I just blow the water out of the plumbing system with compressed air. Otherwise I keep the tank full. I use the water in the tank a lot- mainly for flushing while on a journey, but also for washing dishes, hands, and brushing teeth.

RE: Rubber Roof

The chalky residue is how the material holds up to UV over time- it ablates the chalky residue stuff. The only way to really prevent it is to protect the roof from UV light. Also, scrubbing may not be the best thing since the chalky stuff is protecting the rest of the rubber from light.

RE: Suburban voltage

Try removing, cleaning, and replacing the cables to battery connection as well as the engine to frame grounds and the alternator bolts- there may be some corrosion in there which is causing the voltage to sag when various electrical loads are placed on the system- the alternator can't always run everything if the engine is idle, the headlights are on, etc. Also, the voltage regulator senses at the alternator so if there is either a loose ground or alternator wire the voltage will vary all over the map. This can also affect some of the other sensors on the engine. If this doesn't help, replace the voltage regulator or alternator/regulator combo.

RE: Remove Safety Chains

Safety chains are actually pretty soft and easy to cut- tempering makes the metal brittle. You want a chain to be able to stretch a bit before it fails. A cutoff wheel or bolt cutters is easiest.

RE: How to remove stuck screws to repair water pump?

I wouldn't use Kroil on a water pump, there's just no way to keep it from getting inside the housing and into your water. I use Kroil a lot, there's no easy way to rinse it out and it tastes terrible. (Also, it will really screw up a contact lens, but I don't wish to repeat that story because it makes my eyes water).

RE: How much 12v power is used by the fridge while running in LP mode?

I have a newer Dometic 2652. It has a climate control heater but no switch. It's a heating element in the frame between the freezer and fridge compartment to keep it from getting condensation on it, and it draws 12 watts. The wiring to it is in parallel with the interior light, so if you pull the interior light cover off you can get in there and clip the wire and wire in a switch (or just leave it cut). You can tell if you have a climate control by feeling the door frame. If it is warm to the touch, your climate control heater is on.

RE: Running a Standard LCD Monitor from 12v without an intverter

Power supplies almost never use bridge rectifiers and filters directly anymore anyway. It is more efficient for them to use a switching buck regulator directly off the AC line. If you open up your tv you probably won't find a transformer or bridge diodes at all. If you have a power brick TV it is probably expecting better voltage regulation than you would get from your 12V trailer supply unless it specifically says it is ok to use it that way. It is probably best to either keep using the inverter or get a 12V TV.

RE: Residential refrigerator in now time to buy inverter

If you want a big gun PSW inverter with a nice remote, the Samlex SSW2000 comes with one. Amazon It gets better reviews than the Xantrex. I just bought one myself, haven't installed it yet.

RE: Dometic RM2852 chatters

I would suspect that it is your 12V side that has a problem, and to check the voltage with the refrigerator turned on. I would guess that there is a bad connection which doesn't show low voltage until the gas relay tries to open, the voltage sags too much, then the gas relay closes, the voltage comes up, it sags again, etc. The Dometic fridges cut out at about 10 volts. I think it's probably either the wiring between the fridge and the electrical panel or the fuse itself. You can run a jumper wire directly to a 12V battery to see if the chattering stops.
