RE: F150 payload quetion

How does 4x4 vs 4x2 affect payload?
payload is GVWR less curb weight.
Since teh GVWR is going to be the same (or very close) the extra weight of 4x4 gear comes off the payload.
Think of it this way. Take a 4x2 truck with a 2500 lb payload. Load an extra differential and transfer case in the bed. How much payload is left. In the OPs question 2 extra doors and a bench seat got thrown in there as well (reg vs crew cab). Keep doing this until all the extra parts are in the bed. The curb weight as gone up but not the GVWR so the difference (payload) is less.

RE: Boat or RV ?

We have both, but our situation is a bit different. Have kids in school. So we RV in the summer and some Spring/Fall holidays. Being in Alabama our boating season is pretty long.
Had a 15ft center console to run the river till this month. Only carried 2 people but launched easily and could get in anywhere. Just sold it and got a pontoon. Can now take more people along and can use as a platform for SCUBA.
As we do a lot of long weekends at the COE areas, we can take the boat and the RV.

RE: Norcold refrigerator door lock problem I want a better fix

Could this be a worn plastic hinge bushing causing the door to sag down at the outer edge.

RE: Finding Past Owner

Unfortunately, many states consider them public records. Same as real estate records. Not much you can do if they give it out.
The POs of our current 5er must not have cared much about privacy. They left their sales contract and financing paperwork in a nightstand.

RE: Kreg Mini jig

I got the full kit from Santa a couple years ago. You can pull the guide from the jig and use it like the mini.
I had to rebuild the one by 4 frame in the rear garage door on my 5er and the jig was great for joining 1 by 4's that have to lie flat.

RE: Destin Florida RV camping choices - Help

All of the mentioned parks are nice. The right one for you will be based on what activities you want.
Henderson is downtown Destin. In the summer that means lots of traffic and lots of kids. Walmart is across the street as is Fudpuckers. Bumper boats, water park are a few blocks away.
Topsail is actually in San Destin. More of the golf and outlet crowd. Quieter area but a long walk to the beach. Bikes are highly recommended there.
Grayton gets you farther out from Destin than topsail Hill. A bit of a drive from Fort Walton Beach.
There are also two military RV parks in the area. One in Destin. One in Niceville. Both are on the Bay not the gulf.

RE: F150 payload quetion

probably not too far off. Betting both have similar if not the same GVWR. Starting with the payload for the regular cab 4x2 you subtract the weight added by the crew cab, doors seats, etc. Then subtract the weight of the extra differential for the front, transfer case, extra cross members, drive shaft and such.

RE: Added Value of Bearing Repacking

Proves once again that the hand on inspection is SO much better than over lubing using the zerks. :)
Skip, please explain how you over lube with an EZ-lube axle?
Could see it with bearing buddies but not EZ-lube.

Ask the seller to take desired pictures and email them to you. Not an unreasonable request.

RE: Plastic leveling blocks

Parking on soft ground would be a reason. May need them to spread out the load.
Not sure you need 4 bags. but 2 bags would let you make 4 sets of 5 to increase your levelers foot print.

RE: 5th wheel lift gate?

I've had them on my last two trucks.
Advantages: Can hitch up and not worry about the gate. And yes I did forget to lift my gate once and cut a huge gauge in the 5er on the first turn.
While it doesn't help mileage. it does decrease turbulence. With my solid gate I had a blue tote behind the hitch that floated. with the louvered v-gate no such floating.
disadvantages: Not intended for any type of load. You can't step on them and you can't slide anything of real weight over them while loading. Can't use a bed cover to secure cargo. According to Stromberg Carlson the plastic cannot be painted to match your truck.
If looking at used ones check that the latches are steel. early ones had plastic latches that failed. SC replaced them with steel to solve the problem.

RE: First tow with 06 LBZ

yep, when i went from a Ford v10 to a LB7 it was amazing. we made the same exact trip with the LB7 that we had made with the V10 just 2 weeks earlier, so it really was a fair comparison.
Bigger truck same 5er but better mileage. And power at way lower RPMs.
Maybe I'll upgrade the truck one day, but is it even right to trade a Duramax before hitting 100k?

RE: Anderson Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection

Did anyone else that watched the video notice the girl lifting it into the truck turns into a guy before the hitch makes it in. Then once it's on the gate he turns back into a girl?
Makes me think twice about their credibility.

RE: Any Advice on Financing an RV Purchase?

Not financing is the best way to go. You stated you saved an additional $8,000 in several months bringing your savings to $11,000. Why don't you save for another year and buy one for cash?
I have considered doing just this. I figured by December I should have another 5000 saved. My biggest issue with this is missing out on taking my kids on vacation in the summer.
Just throwing this out there. keep saving so you can pay cash. This summer rent an RV for vacation. Will also give you a chance to try one and see what your ideal features would be before you buy.

This is a great idea, but don't you need wi-fi to Facetime?
yes, but you can also use Tango over a 3G or 4G connection provided both devices are Iphone. Ipods always needs wi-fi.

RE: Moving a small TT with this..

5000 lbs weight limit. Hand cranked? Does this fit your weight and strength needs?
Trailer weighs about 3500lbs when empty, no water, batteries, etc. One other website I found says you can power it with a 12" drill.
When I follow the link in the first post I get a unit with a 1500 lb capacity???

RE: Weight Question

The family doesn't go against the tow weight, but are included in payload and gross combined weight.
Where did the 7550 number come from? Scales or the sticker?
You have to consider several weight values
GVWR
GAWR (especially if you are carrying stuff in the bed)
GCWR
All need to be under their limits.

RE: no discounts for oregonians with disabilities

I do not know why the state of oregon does not have a program for people with disibilities just to go camping many other states offer a way in what did oregon do to our goverment for them not to have something like that but if your a vet you can access discounts our rights are going slowly going away rights that our fore fathers made for us to be equal and to be free. your voting for those who are taking away our rights.
Thanks, AMERICA!!!!
It appears you need free access to punctuation.
Each government runs it's own program. The federal program is available in all states. What Oregon decides to do with their parks is entirely their decision. Great thing about RVs is they have wheels.
I am a disabled vet and was given an Interagency Access Pass at no charge. Alabama just started the process to add veteran identifiers to the driver's license so veterans will easily be able to show proof for veteran's discounts.

RE: Cigarette Stench

We went through this with my grandmother. Both her and my grandfather were smokers. At the end of the day you have to scrub the stuff off.
There was a painting in her living room of the crucifixion and all the years I went there I thought it had been painted in grey tones to give it a somber look. Went to my sister’s house and didn't recognize it. It had been painted in bright colors. My sister had it professionally cleaned.

RE: Harbor Frt Cordless Drill or Impact

I have been happy with many HF tools but the cordless stuff is junk. I use Dewalt cordless tools exclusively for work. I bought a Ryobi 18v li-on for the trailer. After 18 months it is already getting noticeably weaker.
I agree.
I use Dewlat Cordless tools exclusively for Home. If you watch Lowe's you can pick up a Dewalt 18V with 2 batteries, charger and case for around a hundred bucks. Usually around Christmas and Fathers Day.
