RE: Quad Bunkhouse TT w/ No Slide
New or used? We have a 2006 Aerolite 26QS with quad bunks and rear queen bed slide. It slides straight out the back, no width issues. The GVWR is 6000 lbs.

RE: Can I hang cabinets and shelves?
They're pretty much a blank canvas for whatever you wanted to set up. As far as I know they are basically the same construction as a 'normal' TT, so I would think you could build one out however you wanted.

We did the same thing this year. Went from a 04 Aerolite HTT to a 06 Aerolite 26QS. We have 3 kids; 8, 6 and 5, so they were excited about getting their own bunks. I have a Chevy Avalanche, so I had to watch the weight. All of the Aerolite chassis from 2004-2008ish have a GVWR of 6000lbs, well within my TV's capabilities. Our TT has the rear queen bed slide, which works great for us. My only 'complaint', which is really just something we will have to get used to, is having only one closet.

I will take a different approach and agree with the OP. If you can find a tactful way of letting him know he may be a little over weight, then you at least have done your part. If he is in violation of common sense, after being warned, then there are no excuses for what may happen. Unfortunately, these are the folks that will injure or kill someone else.
I agree with this to an extent. However, if you came into my campsite solely to check my weight sticker, pace out my TT length and chastise me for my TV choice, we would have had words.
My last trailer I didn't even use a WD hitch (gasp!). The current TV/TT combo uses 'only' a simple round bar WD hitch.

RE: Fresh water tank etiquette
Like others have said, I keep 10 gallons or so of fresh water for roadside bathroom breaks and fill up when we get to the CG. 95% of our camping is at a state park, and it is welcomed and expected that you will fill from their water.

It should work out great for our family of 5. We had a Aerolite HTT last year, but my wife hated the crease in the bed; hence the upgrade. The kids are thrilled about their own bunks as well.

No way will you ever see me loaded up for camping with my family in the rig without a properly equipped WD hitch. You mentioned a little sway, that would be my first clue to utilize some form of sway control.

as an Avy owner with a trailer about the same weight, there's NO way i'd tow it without a WDH. and i have no kids.
your owner's manual will state the tongue weight or trailer weight that you'll need a WDH. my HTT's tongue and actual weight were well over the minimum amount.
have you read your owner's manual?
i highly recommend you get a good WDH with built-in sway control, like the Equal-i-zer or Reese Dual-Cam. both are well-proven systems with very happy owners.
Yes, I read the owner's manual. It specifies a WD hitch for anything over 5k. If I traveled with hardly anything in the trailer I would be under that. We all know I won't be towing completely empty, so a WD hitch will be added.
The sway was 100% due to the 20-30 MPH crosswind. When I got to a windbreak the trailer tracked perfectly behind the truck.

Thanks for the quick replies. I planned on getting the WD hitch, but wanted some feedback before I did. Would a 10k WD hitch be too much for a 6k camper? I'm certainly ok with overkill.

Dredging this back up from the dead with an update. I searched for a long time and we ended up with a 2006 Aerolite 26QS. Four bunks in the front and a rear queen slide, with a GVWR of 6000 lbs.
I will try to post pics tomorrow after it gets a bath.

WD hitch or not?
I have a question I think I already know the answer to, but I am seeking opinions anyway.
For starters, this is not my first rodeo. I have owned several popups, HTTs and TTs. I have used a WD hitch on a heavy bunkhouse trailer we owned several years ago. We have changed tow vehicles and bought a new to us TT this weekend. Specs on both below. We are a family of 5.
TV: 2002 Chevy Avalanche K1500. Factory tow package, 3.73 gears, rated at 7100 lbs.
TT: 2006 Aerolite 26QS. 3900 lbs dry, 6000 lbs GVWR.
I pulled the camper home this weekend without a WD hitch because I let mine go with our old trailer. It did fine, minor squat in the rear but nothing major. The TT was completely empty though. We towed through a 20-30 MPH crosswind/headwind all the way home, had a little sway.
I can pick up a NIB 10k lb WD hitch from a buddy for fairly cheap, but if I don't need it then I won't mess with it.
Thoughts? I'm well within the tow rating of the Avalanche, which is why I picked this particular TT.

RE: Chevy 6.0 crank position sensor question
I replaced the CPS on my 02 Avalanche 5.3 because it was stalling when hot. At first I thought it was fuel related, but after changing the sensor I haven't had any issues. I didn't do a crank relearn because it runs just fine with no codes or misfires. Hate to donate to the dealer for no reason.
Glad you got your truck figured out.

Thanks for all the feedback, hopefully we can work something out on this trailer. If not, we will certainly be looking for one in the spring.
I am well aware of my vehicle's limitations, and will stay within them. Previously we had an Aerolite hybrid, which didn't weigh hardly anything, but my wife hated the split mattress of the front bunk.

The unit we are tentatively interested in is a 02 KZ Sportsmen 25' with a dry weight of 4600 lbs and GVWR of 6900 lbs, so we would be within ratings.

Keystone Outback/KZ Sportsmen Rear Slide owners
Who has a Outback or Sportsmen with a rear bedroom slide? We are looking at one as an option for next year, but I'd like to get some feedback before we go further. We like the floorplan with front quad bunks since we have 3 kids, but are limited to 7000lbs with our Avalanche which knocks out other bunkhouse models.
Any issues with the rear slide? Are they powered or manual? Is the bed a decent enough size that an average person (5'8" - 5'10") can sleep without having to curl up? Any other things to look for/at?

I just looked at a few used trailers at a local dealer, all 3 had pink stuff in the lines that I could see under the sink.
The new trailers were shipped dry.

RE: Changing rear end oil question
Brake cleaner. Hose all the old stuff out best you can, soak up the extra cleaner with a shop rag. Make sure to spray all over/into the diff and gears.
