how high's the water mama

While looking at pros and cons and differences between shell fiberglass construction vs Lance build, I found posts with pictures of rotted floors. Scarey! Got me to wondering... Having lived in the south (LA and FL), I'm familiar with down pours. I can just imagine that water rising in the bed of the truck faster than it can run out the back. Also found one post where someone wanted to put risers under TC to keep it out of the water. Do you feel the need to raise your TC? Anyone experience the rising water terror and what did you do? Anyone rhino/linex the bottom. worth the cost? Bottom construction was not something I thought about when I looked at the Lance TCs, but am putting it on my list for my re-visit.

RE: Dimensions of microwave box in Lance 825?

Mremdal33, thanks for the link. Didn't know if I could contact them since I'm not a Lance owner YET. I'll give it a try. Junket, hmm.. were you able to track the reason why it wouldn't work. A convection/micro is not an option on the 825 so I was going to get an after market to put in there. Chocolate cookies are an important part of our diet ;). No oven would be an issue..............

Dimensions of microwave box in Lance 825?

I know I saw a post where someone did NOT get the microwave with their Lance 825. I've tried all variations of words to try to find it again. I wanted to PM the poster for the dimensions. I'm looking at the 2013 825 and need to know the measurements of that area. I'm thinking about not getting the installed microwave and instead get a microwave/convection oven for that space. Any one know how to locate that post or know those dimensions?

RE: GMC 2500HD Order

Í'm not saying I AM being sucked into a shell game. Just feels that way right now. I'll look at the spec on the 350/3500 to see if I should pursue this endeavor. Thanks for all the information and advice.

RE: GMC 2500HD Order

Okay, I'm a little bummed :( . Yea, I see where pulling trailer will add some tongue weight which would add to payload. I'm not sure I'll need those air bags or shocks yet and their price may be somewhat >< $700. But why finance upgrades that don't come from dealer that I may not need? When I started this search Lance said you could haul this on a 150/1500. The math didn't work for me so I did some research I found that some felt and I agreed that the 250/2500 would be better. I could get 174# more payload more the Ford Super Cab, but I liked the GMC. (an interesting side note, the Ford dealership told me their 250 had a 7000" payload and even showed me a book with that info when I questioned it) The math was more acceptable with a 2500HD. Now that I've become okay with biting the bullet for a 2500HD I'm being told that's unsafe and would need a 350/3500. I am not a mechanic and cannot do my own work on a vehicle and don't have a good trusty mechanic to rely on. I cannot buy used. I know there are many who say there are a lot of people roaming around overloaded. To each his own security level. I was trying to be educated, safe and not overload. Many have and recommend going to a 250/2500. Now it's 350/3500, I feel like I'm being sucked in by a shell game.

I'm confused? Pulling tailer will add to bed payload?

RE: GMC 2500HD Order

The camper on the lot was 2149# with the options I'm looking at, give or take a few. I wanted something with at least a 3000 payload Only about $700 more for the 3500 ... I'm "mored" out already. Wish $ was no object :( ........... Max payload for 4wd extended is 3189, the crew cab is 3066 (that's going in the wrong payload direction). No one has the exact truck I want to be able to look at the glove box information. My last 2500HD was a crew cab, don't need it now, got rid of all the kids :B , I will pull a utility trailer should I need extra "stuff"

GMC 2500HD Order

Wanting to get the Lance 825 so I'm going to dealer to "maybe" put my order in for: GMC 2500HD SLE Ext Cab 4X4, GVWR 9500#, Vortex 6.0L Variable Valve Timing V8 SFI (sure that means something to some of you, but greek to me :?) 6 speed automatic heavy-duty electronicalloy controlled trans 3.73 rear axle Z85 suspension pakage LT265/70R18E tires heavy duty automatic locking rear differential Multi-2stage rear leaf spring Trailer wiring provisions for camper, ..... Trailering equipment, heavy duty Max payload (on the book) 3189# Dealer uses company that installs Firestone airbags (I'll probably get it done myself, looks like many prefer Bilstein) Looks like I'd have to buy an off-road package to get Rancho Tenneco Shocks Am I overlooking something that would be difficult or more costly to add after market? Thanks for your input.

Truck Camper a truck or RV

Looking at the fares for the Alaska Marine Highway. When you make reservation do you reserve a place for your truck camper as a RV or truck?

RE: 2013 Tundra with Lance 865?

Thanks everyone for your help. I went and looked at the Lance 825/865. Looks like I'm going to go with the 825. I like the 865, it had a nice set up for getting up into the overcab bed and a lot of windows. It did not like the smaller wardrobe storage, not much knee room in the bathroom and the odd set up where the buffet seat back protrudes into the passageway. I did not look at anything bigger because I want to go small and light. I see where you guys say I need the 250/2500. I did not make it to look at trucks because I got side tracked looking at the Artic Fox, Class Bs, and Class Cs. The Class Bs are too small, the Class Cs are too big and the Artic Fox is heavier and only comes with slide outs which I don't want. Almost sounds like a 3 bears story.:) I'm disappointed that Lance choose not to put their 2013 upgrades on their 2 smaller models (solid surface counter tops, all LED, and molded front nose cap). I will deal with no oven by substituting the microwave with a microwave/convention oven. Thanks again

Lance 825 option questions

Looked at the Lance 825 yesterday. I have some questions on options. Awning - I hardly used the one on my 5th wheel. Needed? If you have one where is yours, back or side. All models on lot were on back. Where do you hang out around you truck/tc? Generator - I have a Honda 2000 where do you stow it underway? Battery/propane tank - only one, Is that enough? If you added another battery, where did you put it? Where do you stow extra LP underway? Docking lights - never needed them with a 5th wheel Cab over shocks - read that cab over hang is structurally a weak link. Do you have them? Any structural issues with your Lance? Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts and experience.

RE: 2013 Tundra with Lance 865?

Thanks for the input. Now I know to make sure the trucks "payload" will be more than the weight of the camper (plus stuff) I choose. It's pretty much what I expected but wanted up to date opionions in case the Tundra has grown enough to match the big guys. I liked the feel of the Tundra inside. My 2500 HD has 230k miles on it and it is still my "white knight". I do not like what GM has done to the interior of the new GMC. It has a whimpy and smaller feel. I have always owned GMC and loved the GMC trucks. I need a 4 wheel drive vehicle now for winter mountain driving and with 230k miles on my 2002 I prefer to use it for local hauling. I will go see what camper I like and then decide on a truck. Thanks again,

2013 Tundra with Lance 865?

I'm new to the Truck camper forum. I sold my 26rks Alumascape 5th wheel in July. I loved it, loved it, loved it... It made me a happy camper for 10 years. I miss having my own space when I travel and hate hotel rooms, but don't need all that "space" any more. I'm thinking about a new 4X4 Tundra Dbl cab with a 6.5 wheel base and a 865 Lance. I'm going tomorrow to sit in the Lance to see if anything that size is doable for me. And then to look at the Toyota's. I've been reading the posts here on this possible set up and am not encouraged. My other option was a GMC Sierra 150, but was not impressed with the 2012's when I previewed them with my son. I like the Tundra. Lance states " ..while carrying it around on your short bed* Toyota Tundra ...or ...1500 series truck" Do I need to look at GVWR or payload? Payload is what sits (the camper) in the bed, right? Lance dry weight 1818 Sierra GVWR 7000 tundra GVWR 6900 Payload without/with toy package Tundra Dbl Cab 1365/1330 Sierra 1908/1834 Yep, another woman asking dumb questions, but you guys were kind when I asked them and got the truck and 5th wheel that were "just right".
