RE: Alfa See Ya

I taught school in Ontario, CA just a few miles from the plant where they were made. They hired some of my students and a few of their dads so I had a unique opportunity to discuss the plant opperation. This is second hand gossip but the common point is that they had untrained workers doing jobs that they were not trained to do. I was amazed by some of the tales I heard. It's no surprise they had so many problems with assembly quality. The joke goes that the plant workers would line up as a new coach drove off and chant "See Ya Later" Bob

RE: DIY MH paint job?

Two questions first. Do you have good experience painting cars and how professional of a job are you looking for? Painting a M/H is no different, just bigger. I certainlly would not reccomend learning to paint on your coach. This will be a very expensive endevor and could be a disaster if you don't have the necessary skills. If you decide to proceed, I would strongly suggest using a two step paint, base coat then clear coat. Depending upon the size of your m/h, the materials alone will be in the thousands $$$. I personally have painted many cars including some show winners but decided against painting my coach. I had it painted in Red Bay, AL at Custom Paint and the bill was %6,000(36' Allergo Bus). Bob

RE: Norcold refer on '06 Bus not getting cold enough

I posted this on the Tiffin forum and got several suggestions to replace the "Nevercold" with a residential. It makes sense but does the inverter supply power while driving or boondocking overnight? Bob

Norcold refer on '06 Bus not getting cold enough

We recently bought an '06 Allergo Bus with the four door refer that doesn't get cold enough. We have a 30 day warranty so the dealer is attempting to get it fixed for us but can't seem to figure out what to do next. We have the temp switch set on nine, the slider on the fins all the way up, plugged in for a week, using propane for travel, nothing changes the fact that the ice cream is soft and the beer is at best, cool. Any ideas? Bob

New, to us, '06 Allergo Bus Questions

We pulled the trigger and updated from our '96 Bus with no slides to a '06 with four slides. It has only 30K miles and appears to be in great shape. It is at the dealership being detailed and completely serviced. New to us will be the King Dome, Hydro Hot, washer/dryer, dishwasher, slide matintenance, and Tiffin Navagation system. As to the washer/dryer combo, we know the limitations and I intend to change it out to a stack ASAP. The Nav/Back-UP Camera, has me concerned. Anyone have any input? We use a portable Hi Def dish with Dish Network, Not sure how compatable that is with the King Dome? The Dealership has given us a 30 day warrenty and is fixing small list of minor problems we found upon purchase. Is there anything else we should be looking at carefully prior to delivery? Thanks in advance, Bob

New Q on washer/dryer decision

Some of you may have read my thread on the Tiffin board about our decision to upgrade from a '96 Allergo Bus D/P with no slides to a '04-'07 bus with more room. We live in it now about six months in Mesa and have real problems at the park we stay in. Not the park as a whole, only the launrymat. So I know the complaints on most washing/drying machines, but, I did see in a newer Bus a stack washer/dryer. The dryer ran on 220V, is this common? We want to be able to do a load during dinner and have it done quickly so if this could be added after my purchase it would help make the correct decision on which Bus to buy. Thanks in advance, Bob

RE: hi so when did they start putting discs brakes on back of mh

And be careful on the mounting of that pump, what looks upside down is the correct mount. Bob B

RE: Can I integrate music from dash and dvr?

Good ideas both, thanks guys. Here is another solution I'm looking at and need input. Samsung and I'm sure other companies sell a system to upgrade the sound from your tv. It consists of a "Sound Bar" which includes multiple speakers to simulate surround sound. It mounts above your tv or I suppose below. Also included is a wireless subwoofer. Should make installation a breeze. Here is the question, is there a possibility of driving that sub with the head unit in the dash? That would be the perfect solution. Bob B

Can I integrate music from dash and dvr?

I have a high power dash head unit that sounds pretty good through some Pioneer TRX 40 box speakers. It could use some help with a sub and am thinking of where to locate it. The tiny speakers in the tv really need help and I'm just wondering if there is a way to combine the two systems. A surround system like I have at home would solve the problem for the tv but how to integrate? Bob

roof air quit?

Twice now, our roof air just quit. It just shut off with no breaker or electrical supply problrms. The rear air still works and the front one will turn on later and work well until it shuts off again. I suspect it's freezing up and just shutting down. The fan will work if I turn off the ac itself. Where do I start looking? Thanks in advance, Bob

These things can be frustrating!

So I've spent the last month spending lots of money and time getting this thing ('96 Allergo bus) ready to go for the winter. Paid $1,200 to get the exhaust manifold replaced(It had shrunk and broke two bolts which had to be drilled out), changed out the thermostat, replaced a power steering hose, cleaned the radiator fins, etc., etc. I started it three or four times during the loading procedure, moved it out to the front yard to hook up the toad and called DW saying "Let's go". She's ready as it's raining here in Oregon and we're anxious to get to Arizona for the winter. She and the dog get in, we get buckled up, I turn the key, NOTHING!!!! Won't crank. How is this possible I'm thinking? It just started five minutes ago! I get my pickup parked close enough to hook up jumper cables wondering if the battery has enough power to crank the Cummins. Still nothing!! I get my trusty volt meter and an umbrella to do some checking and discover it's just corroded battery cables. Yea! Cleaned them up, it fired right up and we are on the road. We'll soon be in Mesa, hope your travels go well, Bob

RE: Replacing Front Dash Heater Core

I just did mine on a '96 Bus. It was a tough job getting to the bolts closest to the outside as the hood opening is not large enough. I tried working with a mirror at first but after a few hours of frustration I gave op on that and just pulled the headlights to get access. Not too bad a job after that decision. A local radiator shop recored the heater core reasonably and reassembly went well. Good luck on this job, Bob

RE: 1997 alagro bus

We own one and love it. We've put about 100+K trouble free miles on it and would hate to part with it. It's the 38' pusher with the 5.9 Cummins that gets 10 to 11 MPG. It's not the fastest vehicle on long hills but it is faster than loaded semi's. It doesn't have the latest features but it is also easy to maintain. Contact me if you have specific questions. Bob

RE: Tire Size Comparison Chart

Ok, here we go. Lets say you have a 275-75-15 tire and want to compare it to a 285-70-15. We know the first number is the width of the cross section but it is in mm, so devide 275 by 25.4 to get 10.8 inches. The second number, 75, tells us that the tire is 75% as tall as it is wide so multiply 10.8 by .75 and find the tire is 8.1 inches tall from the tread to the center hole. 8.1 times two(top and bottom of tire) plus the rim size, 15, results in a tire 31.2 inches tall. Hope this helps, Bob B

Cummins 5.9 exhaust manifold shrinkage, broken

bolts. The two rear bolts are broken off clean and there's a credit card width gap where the gasket used to reside. New manifolds are in the three to four hundred dollar range and the labor estimate is impossible to pin down. My local diesel shop says it could be between $350 to over a $1,000! I understand there's a possibility of more broken bolts, hard to get a drill in to some of the locations, etc. etc. I usually do all my own work but this one has me concerned. One of my problems is physical, I'm just nine weeks on a new knee and the thought of working under the bed has me worried. Any of you guys have experience? ('96 Allergo Bus) Bob

RE: Neck and/or shoulder pain after driving for long periods?

It happens to me when I drive with my shoulders too tense. I have to keep reminding myself to relax. It still get occurs on the first day driving after being parked for a while or when driving in dense traffic. Bob
