RE: Winnebago Voyage/ Kwikee jacks/ WH chassis

A 2005 chassis should have the instrument panel problem solved. Mine has been good for the last 2-3 years. The brake problem should be solved soon when they will be putting new style calipers on the coaches. The Kwikee jacks I have no experience with.

RE: SNOW TRAVEL ADVISE NEEDED DESPERATELY ASAP!!

I go to Chicago several times per year and I don't think it is a disaster. There is a lot of truck traffic as well as cars but it doesn't last very far. From Gary, IN. to the point where I-80 continues West there is traffic and a very short stretch of toll road. After that stretch it is clear sailing across I-80. My biggest objection to I-80 is the tolls in Ohio and Indiana. The road is OK. Have a safe trip.

RE: installing a wood floor ???

We did that in our previous MH when we had new carpet put in the living area and laminate in the kitchen-dining area. We also had the upholstery redone. The flooring worked great. The sheet is not for a vapor barrier but to help with the floating as you get expansion and contraction and also was a cushion. We were down as low as 10 deg. and had no problem with it. The next year we wanted a slide and got the Newmar.

RE: Just joined

Whenever we got a new RV our first trip was always to Algonac State Park in MI. because it was close to home and we could run back if we needed something bad enough. The first trip is always to see what you forgot or didn't even know you needed.

RE: The RV alarm went off at 3AM

I wouldn't be able to use anything with a motion detector since we travel with 2 cats that sometimes create a lot of motion. I keep thinking of an alarm for the MH but as of now it is parked, unlocked in a garage along with another half dozen RVs.

RE: Jumping ship...to a 1995 Georgie Boy

From looking at the pictures it appears to have a very long overhang from the rear wheels back and this will have an effect on the towing and hitch ratings. A 37' gas coach is pushing a drive train to the max as it is. Were you the high bidder? Good Luck!!

RE: Got my new Garmin 765T GPS.......have a question?

The pop-up ads are just a small line across the top of the screen that in most cases are just for Best Western Hotels and they are not very frequent. They stay for a few seconds and then disappear.

RE: Steps on a Class A

They are probably Kwikee steps. Regular lubing of the pivot points is required to keep them working. The motor is a power window motor from a car. Mine is a 3 step model and has a LF window motor from a '79 Lincoln Town Car. Be very careful when working on the steps because of the strength they have. It is very easy to break or remove a finger or something else if it goes when you are not expecting it. My motor was $65 at NAPA or $250 from Kwikee. Same motor.

RE: new purchase

We always come back home with at least half of the clothes stil clean and on their hangers. My wife likes to have everything handy for any occasion so we go loaded. I take a few cameras with me so that takes some space. I looked at some of the newer, smaller units and decided we were happy with our size. At 38' we have never been to a place where we couldn't fit.

RE: Police Humor

I had the opposite of that one. A young woman hit my car when I was sitting at a red light and took off. I got her license # and the local police went to her home and gave her a ticket. When we were there for the court date I saw her sitting in the court with an attorney but she had not checked in. When the previouds cases were all settled the judge looked at me and said "Bill, what are you doing here today". She looked at her lawyer and said OMG, he knows the judge. She bought me a new tail light.

RE: New phone book delivered in driveway during snowstorm...!

Do you think they could read the phone book any easier than the computer screen if they are illiterate? That is like seeing the ATM drive thru with brail on them, Do they get many blind drivers at the ATM?

RE: Best yard sale finds

I bought a box of photo equipment for $25. at a garage sale. I only had $23. and the wife said that was OK. When I got looking in the box I asked them if they knew they could get more from a camera store and they said yes but they wanted to get rid of it. On my way home I stopped at Classic Camera and sold a couple of enlarging lenses I didn't need for $250., a used camera store. I kept a Linhof tripof and Ball head until I pinched my fingers one time too many and sold them for $200. I still have the dual 8 projector that I really wanted plus a couple items that are nicely machined but I don't know what they are.

Vonage Phone Service

Does anyone use Vonage for their phone service? I tried VOIP with Lingo a few years back and found I had blown $125. for no service. They were impossible to deal with and constant lies on the phone. Seeing the Vonage sounds good to me. They talk about calling all over for no charge like India. I can call India free right now, all I have to do is call customer service on many 800 numbers and I get someone in India. I am more interested in some of the other places like Canada.

RE: Quality of Georgie Boy CruiseAire and Newmar RV'S

In my opinion the Newmar is a couple steps above the other 2. I have had a couple Fleetwood products and was happy with them but they don't compare to the Newmar.

RE: Fibreglass roof on Winnebago's

What else comes with a 10 year warranty besides a Winnebago roof?
Try the Brite Tek on the Newmar products. I had a metal roof once and never again. If it rains during the night you have no need for an alarm clock. I have had TPO on previous MHs and never a problem other than checking regularly by sending my SIL up there to check things out. I would not let the roof be the deciding factor on a quality MH. My assumption would be the manufacturer is doing a good job on their products. (in most cases)

RE: Workhorse brake fix??????

I don't know if it is Workhorse, Navistar, or Bosch that is the real hangup. You can look at how Navistar is treating the Monaco people on their warranty problems prior to their takeover. Some get better treatment than others. The same thing is true at Workhorse. When I called Workhorse after my first brake problem this past June I was told "If I have another problem just pull over and let it cool for an hour and then continue". After the second time we just cancelled the rest of the vacation and parked the MH until it can be fixed. I raised enough fuss on IRV2.com that WH said to take it to Holland Motor Homes to be checked. Their first response to the pictures was the pins were rusty. When they were informed it was grease they changed to rusty sliders. No work was done since they were OK according to them. Back to storage. My payments continue, insurance continues, my tires are aging, the MH remains useless because a cheap company doesn't want to acknowledge their problem. How many years were we told it is because we ride the brakes, we don't know how to drive, we don't drive enough. I didn't buy my MH to leave it parked in a barn while my tires age at $400. per year.

RE: surface prep for Eternabond tape

I just cleaned with a rag, after washing the MH, to make sure it was dry and put the Eternabond on. If you question Eternabond you have to consider it's original use was to seal underwater cables while still underwater. I don't think they used anything to clean them under the water. It is amazing stuff. The only thing I would say is don't make a mistake when putting it down. Where it hits it stays.

I know those 12-14% grades aren't here in Michigan. We don't have hills that size.

RE: Tying down automatic awning

On our previous MHs I did not have the automatic awning and hardly ever used the awning because I didn't want to put it up and down all the time. Now that wwe have the A&E the awning is out a lot more. I like easy. We don't even have the tie downs anymore. We gave them to our daughter for her TT.

RE: Negotiating Help....First purchase

I think you are putting too much value on the RV Consumer Group ratings. They do not drive the vehicles they rate, but simply look at the listings from the sales brochure and go from there. Just because a couple of people sitting in an office look at a brochure and say they do or don't like it means nothing to me. Throw that book out, go out and try some of the RVs that they don't like and you may be surprised.
