We prefer selecting our site when we arrive. When still working, we usually would take off a day or two early (nice to have a long weekend anyway). The VA parks are pretty good about accurately describing site length, and from what we have seen there are probably only a very few sites in each campground you wouldn't want.
It would seem that the best of both worlds would be the way that many COE parks (and some other states) with sites set aside for reservations along with some 'walk-in' sites'? If they do go with site specific reservations, sure hope they add good descriptions including exact length, width, and slope and shade info, as well as pictures.
The only park where gate staff have assigned sites (James River) we found the staff really great about accommodating our requests. We had a family get together, and they put all 6 of our campsites together.
That said, the $5 per day per dog fee (up to 3 days) will still keep lots of folks away. Add to that the $5 reservation fee (per stay, even for walk up) and the state park is not cost effective for one night (even with the 10% off for the lifetime park pass).X-2, you can get a better deal at one of the COE parks, which are at least as good or better than the state parks.

While I wait and wait and wait for the magic day the dealer calls to tell me it's finally ready to be delivered my mind has turned to some logistics and supplies I know I'll need.
To the point. I'm wondering how long of a sewer hose I carry a 10' & a 20', at times i've used both of them, just not together.I should have, same for the drinking water hose.I carry a 50' & a 25', just in case. I'm also looking at a surge protector I have a 30A Surge Guard, and won't be without one, but you'll get many folks that don't have one & never needed one, but for me, it's cheap insurence.and water filters and pressure regulators I have a built in whole house filter, some use an additional in-line filter, I have a 45psi pressure regulator, just be sure to get a good one.do most of the experienced folks out there use these last items?
Then. I know there is other stuff. But I started thinking of this because I found Rhino Hose on sale - it's a 15ft kit and I wondered if that was enough or if I needed a extension as well.
RE: rv cover
I HONESTLY think RV covers are too much trouble for what they are worth. They are very hard to put on. Also if they are not 100% tight, wind will smack them around till holes form.
Many have to replace after a year or two. I'd suggest if possible just going with a custom built RV carport (with sides installed if you really want protection).X-2, a major PITA to put on or take off, first winter used, got 3 holes in it. Seriously thinking of going the RV carport route.

This moron ignored no less than 3 stop signs/lights, flashing at that, I don't care where it's at, Australia, US or where ever, this guy shouldn't have a license for a bicycle, mush less a big rig. :S
RE: water pump blurp
just de-winterized my TT and the pump does a blurp every 10 seconds or so. I have checked 90% of the fittings and it still doing the same thing. Any idea's and possable fixes?tks PJDProbably the 10 % you didn't/couldn't check, it only takes one.

which brings up another question, and i hope i don't get this hijacked. when we get out to camp, plug in to the shore power, our lights, etc. keep running on the battery.This part is normal, your lights are 12v (look at the bulbs), the converter converts the 110v to 12v for the lights, the recepticles run off the 110v part. the lights continue to dim out, until finally the system clicks, and then starts running on the shore power. is this normal?I'd say the lights are dimming because you have a bad converter, mine did the same thing, replaced the converter, no more dimming.
RE: 12 volt coffee makers is the any good reason to own one?
Get one of the stove top perc machines. They do a credible job of making coffee. 12 volt appliances are basically junkx2 that's all we use anymore threw the electric one out, don't need 120v or 12v to make coffee.

Luckily, I replaced my 5 year old Michelins, which were badly weather checked, before they blew, I replaced them with Firestone Transforce HT's, they ride better than the Michelins, & are not as prone to sidewall cracking, & they are quite a bit cheaper than the Michelins.

RE: RV'ers wanted (or should be)
How come most states (I think Florida is the exception) don't realize and go after the RV'ers? Here's my thought - I know that when I pack DW and kids and spend 7+ nights in the mountains or the beach or the lake I'm going to drop some real serious coinage. Diesel fuel, groceries, shopping, amusements, restuarants, etc. all add up to well over $1000.00 and sometimes multiples of that.
States have already invested in State parks and providing services to private CG's -- why aren't the State boards and commissions over tourism knocking on my door, sendng me emails, and basically begging me to spend my money in their state? Why haven't states partnered with Marcus (Good Sam) or reached out directly to Jayco, Thor, etc., and offered a "Jayco weekend discount" knowing full well that I'll spend a whole lot more that whatever the discount 'saved' me?
I have spent many hours on emails and letters to bureaucrats here in GA with nothing more than 'we appreciate your note' responses. Argh!I don't know where or how you camp, but we spend nowhere near what you say you do for a week,depending on how far we travel, fuel is the most expensive part of the equasion,we pretty well stock up on groceries before setting out, & then only by minimal amounts, like milk, eggs bread, etc., other than that we don't go "shopping",as far as amusements, camping Is our amusement,& we never go to restuarants or eat out when we're camping/RV'ing.Maybe it's because we're frugal, (or cheap), but they would be wasting their money advertising to me, as I already know where i'm going & what I want to see, long before I ever leave the house.

I did call Woods this afternoon, they (nice lady) said that the overpass was not marked but 18-wheelers go under it many times a day so I assume it will be OK for me. She also thought civilian traffic was allowed through Ft Lee. We'll find out on Wednesday morning!Actually, 36 doesn't go "Through" Ft Lee, although, after Washington St turns into Oaklawn Blvd. Ft Lee is on both sides of 36.

It does just what everyone has said, but I've never seen one behind the seat, most of them are on the lower left side of the dash.

This is only one reason we don't use our State Parks, go to the COE parks, a much better deal, & just as good or better than the SP's.
