RE: The Long, Long Trailer

We watched the movie in our 5er as we are out for 10 days. That Mercury convertible was pulling a 50' TT, pretty big for those days I would think.Pretty big for ANY days, I've never heard of a 50 ft TT.

RE: The Long, Long Trailer

thanks, watching now. LOL, even back in 1954 rv dealers sold them a trailer without concern about the tow vehicle. The tow vehicle is not the dealers concern, in 1954, or 2009,(although he should tell you about it).

RE: R. Schaefer Heard GA - reviews? Or alternatives?

My youngest son and I are getting back into camping. We have an old (read '66!) Apache Eagle. No heat, no fridge, no stove. Just two bedends and canvas - but we like it just fine. We stayed at Red Top Mountain state park in Georgia. We really liked that park. My son is a mini-golf nut, and would go back as often as we could. We also went to McKinney campground, and really enjoyed having a campsite right on the water. We'll skip camping in December (and January), but will head out again in maybe late Feb or in March. Since our "tow vehicle" (in quotes, since it's a laugh) is a Toyota Corolla and our camper weighs all of 450 pounds or so - we want to keep it fairly local to NWATL area. That said - how is R. Schaefer Heard on West Point Lake? Any spots more secluded then others? We like to not be in the middle of everything, and prefer a quiet spot right on the water. Any other recommendations for south of Atlanta in Feb/March timeframe? Like FDR Park? Or other recommendations in, say, a 100 mile radius or so of Marietta? We'll save the mountain parks for the summer, right now we're thinking south of Atlanta.Pretty good reviews here, http://rvparkreviews.com/regions/Georgia/West_Point.html

RE: Black Friday Sales

I turn out the lights, close all the windows, and pull the shades down, then lock all the doors, I would not be cought dead in that sea of pushing, shoving, and a lot of rude shoppers. I'm not saying you are one of them either. Ba Humbug!!!!!! Christmas should be for children under 17 years of age. No I do not participate.....I was in the Navy for 23 years and I got my fill of standing in lines and large crowds....I aggravate my wife when I go shopping with her as I am on a mission to get what is on the shopping list and not look at everything hanging on the sales racks......the quicker I get out of the stores the better.....I think that is generally a man thing, till we get to the RV, or sporting goods section.:B

RE: fifth wheel VS travel trailer

GENERALLY, (i say that 'cause there are exceptions to everything), but generally, a 5th wheel will cost more, it will also have much more storage room, plus, they are taller,& require a different mind set to drive/tow, you must always be aware of height clearences, and low hanging branches. You WILL need a new TV, with a small TT, you can use the one you have.

Needs to be Level

I've read on here how an RV needs to be level, for the fridge to work, well, I don't think this one is going to work. http://i.imwx.com/web/multimedia/images/miscellaneous/091124treevstrailer_240.jpg height=152 width=240

RE: Cleaning Suggestions for the "Gritty" Patch on the Stairs?

I put one of these on mine, http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/product/prest-o-fit-wraparound-plus-rv-step-rugs/4366 Thanks, bukhrn. I've seen quite a few use those wrap-around carpet thingies. I like them but DH doesn't seem to like them for some reason. I think he thinks they will squirm around as you walk on them ...do they? Or are they pretty secure on the step? They do not move around, at all. You can buy more of the material at most hardware stores. Remove the old, repaint the steps and apply new non-skid material. It will look like new. Hey, good idea, Don. Thanks. I wonder how the non-skid would accept the black paint? It's seems a shame to go to the trouble of scraping off the old stuff and then reapplying new stuff as it seems in good condition, just a bit dirty. I wonder if we painted the entire step with the non-skid in place if it would work?

RE: my new trailer

hey colliehauler, it depends on how much beer i carry to the beach and then i expect it to be a lot lighter on the return trip.;)On the other hand,if you start on that beer soon enough, you wont need to go to the beach.:B

RE: Camping World

As you're finding out, it's not a just CW thing, but MOST dealers do it now days, a couple dealers in the Richmond area, you MUST go through the showroom first, in order to enter the sales lot, then you've got the secret service following you around. Oh, my mistake they were salesmen, not SS.:B

RE: Fresh Water in Holding Tank.

I wouldn't worry about it getting contaminated (from what I dont know), but I'd worry about the weight, How much did you put in it, we never put in more that a 1/4 tank, just enough for bathroom stops. A full tank,(On mine is an extra 280 lbs)that I don't need to carry around.

RE: Buying a site in an RV Resort.

Just don't see buying an Rv, then buying a place to park it.Exactly, thats why my MH has wheels on it, so I don't have to stay in one place, especially at $45-50K, I can do a whole lot of traveling for that much. But, different strokes.

You can flush it with one of thesehttp://www.rvupgradestore.com/ProductImages/appliances/888710.jpg height=250 width=62 Then if it looks like the bottom one,(or worse) replace it, http://www.motleyrvrepair.com/anadoerod.jpg height=94 width=188

RE: Man Shot in Walmart Parking Lot (rv'er)

Fearmongering at its best. You are much more at risk of being killed on the road driving to Wal Mart than you are of being shot in the parking lot. Does that mean people are going to stop driving? I doubt it. People need to stop being so paranoid and just get on with life.Exactly, here in Richmond, you are just as likely to get shot while sitting in your stick house, by a drive by, as you are at a WalMart.

RE: Where should the water go...

...when the holding tank is full? We had a couple rent our motorhome last night, and they managed to flood the bedroom! It's a home football game here in town (go Hawks! No Rose Bowl, but maybe next year...), and for that sort of rental we don't even give them the key to the ignition -- so this all happened in the parking lot out front of our hotel. After vacuuming the water out of the carpet with a wet vac, we have searched and searched for a leak, and the ONLY source I can find is the large gray-water sewer pipe that goes into the floor beneath the master bed, which (I presume) goes into the gray water holding tank directly beneath the floor. My best guess is that the holding tank filled to capacity and then overflowed, bubbling up through that joint as the guests tried to dump more water in? How in the world these people managed to fill that tank is beyond me, but (so far) this is my only working theory. I've checked all the plumbing, and can find NO leaks, so this appears to definitely be a holding tank over flow. My Questions: 1. Should the water do this when the tank is full?" Only if you have a bad joint, it should back up into the shower first. Shouldn't it drain out on to the ground if it's full, and NOT bubble up through that top joint into the bedroom? (Or is there a law against that?) Only if you have a bad dump valve, ( Yes, in most places, there is a law against it, even though many do it anyways) 2. Other than sucking up the water, setting up fans, and airing the unit out, is there anything else I can do to fix this? The carpet was so saturated that the water was coming through the wall/floor joint behind the rear wheels, so that whole wall is probably saturated. As someone said, get a Dehumidifier 3. Is there any way to rig up an alarm to the holding tanks -- a light, or a siren -- that would go off when the tank was full? We've got the standard electronic bar-graph gauge(s) on the wall, but you have to push a button to view that. Training the renters would probably work better, or better yet Never rent it out. Thanks!
