RE: Putting the kids on the floor???

We went thru the same decision process years ago. Kids hated how tight the bunks had become, and we decided to go for more living space and no bunks. Kids slept in a tent, on the floor or the jackknife couch. When we wanted to get up we either grabbed our coffee and went outside, or woke the kids and had them move to our bed. Worked well for years. Now we have grandkids and no bunks - we handle it the same way.

RE: Open range LT 256 BHS

I haven't been in that particular model, but I can tell you that we love our Open Range - we have the '14 LT274RLS. Great construction, and our only problem in the last 18 months was our power jack, which isn't an OR problem. We would definitely recommend OR, and would buy another in the future!

RE: TT vs. 5th wheel: ease of towing

When we bought our popup many years ago, we agreed I needed to learn to tow "just in case". Several upgrades later and 10 years ago my DH was diagnosed with brain cancer, and at eventually couldn't drive. Because I knew how to tow, we were able to continue to do what he loved. Ultimately he passed, and I sold the TT. Fast forward - I got remarried to someone who loved tent camping. We bought a TT and I taught HIM how to tow, lol! I can't answer the 5th vs. TT question, but I can state without question that she needs to learn how to tow. Go to an empty parking lot and practice practice practice!

RE: Open Range Quality

We have the TT in my signature. We LOVE it - far superior to most of the others we saw when we were looking. Only problem we've had is our power jack, which isn't OR. You asked about a forum for OR owners - openrangeowners.com. I highly suggest you ask other owners - we found they were most helpful when we did our research! Good luck!

RE: Huge discrepancies

We originally wanted an f150 EB, hd/tow package in a used truck. Looked for almost a year. Finally gave up and got a 5.4, which took us almost 6 months to find. It's a 2010 although we would have liked newer. Only had 50K miles, and has a payload of 1750. We had to give up nice-to-have options to get that payload. Years ago we searched for a Suburban 2500, 8.1 engine. Looked for 6 or 7 months for that also! Good luck with your search. It just takes time when you're looking for something specific. We found ours at a Chevy truck dealer!

RE: Towing question before purchase

Well now we can both get beaten up, lol! We have a very similar truck, only difference is ours is 4X4. Payload is 1650ish. Our TT is just a little lighter, and we are VERY careful what we pack. It is just us, and sometimes our 2 medium labs. We do just fine. We've been thru hilly terrain, although not the Rockies. At no time have we white-knuckled it, or wished for more power. We're able to maintain desired speed at all times. Truthfully, we love our truck and TT combination. So there you have it...

RE: Here we go again...

I'd also vote for the OR. We love ours, and highly recommend them. OR has always had a 2 year warranty, even prior to the Jayco acquisition. I might add the only thing we've had go wrong is our power jack.

RE: First Trip/Last Trip

I'm so sorry for your loss, and I'm glad you've gotten yourself out camping! Six years ago I lost my DH to brain cancer when we were 54. The TT became one more thing to deal with, and after 2 years I sold it. Year 3 I deeply regretted it, and came to miss camping terribly. Year 5 I found a great guy who loved to camp - ultimately we married and bought a new TT, and are now making lots of new happy memories. Good luck to you!

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

When I was a kid we had a female shepherd mix that lifted her leg. She was definitely an alpha dog, and let everyone know! We now have a female lab/border collie. While she does not lift her leg, she does "mark" more than any female I've ever had. Much more than our male!

RE: New owner of Open Range LT308BHS

We have the OR in my signature. We have used it extensively both on a seasonal site and traveling this summer. Our only problem is the failure of our power tongue jack, which of course is being replaced under warranty. We are very pleased with our Open Range!

RE: Questions about Arctic Fox 30U Storage

They should do a full winterization, pumping the pink stuff thru the entire system. You can buy 2 gallons for under $5, and it takes 15 min. Why would you risk it? Chicago winter was brutal last year!
