RE: EcoBoost problems on the Horizon...:?

In the repair business, we call them the Ego Boost.

RE: K&N air filters, help or not

It's the wind , unless you have a carburetor on your truck. With todays engine management systems, and all the input sensors, it knows to cut the fuel to maintain the correct F/A ratio if the filter is little restricted, it's not like a venturi effect of a carb.. I've had trips where I have a 1/4 tank when I get to my CG, refill, and leave the next day, and have right at a half tank when I get home.

RE: Older tow vehicles

I like old, the older the better. My 05 Dodge sits my yard all week, so I can drive my older 97 Grandprix daily . And on the weekend, I ride my even older 84 Goldwing around town. Every thing is payed for, so it's free sailing.

RE: Why does the market demand Diesel??

My 05 Dodge/Cummins gets the same mileage as my Grandprix 3.8, about 20mpg around town. So it's always a tossup which vehicle I drive all week. The diesel around here is .60 higher, so I actually save money driving the car, but sometimes it just feels right driving the truck around. Talking about an efficient engine the diesel is though, the car weight 3300lbs., half as much as the truck, and the diesel can squeeze the same mileage out of a gallon.

RE: Manual Transmission? Yea or Nay?

RE: Gone to diesel? Some questions for those that have.

My diesel swap was the best thing I ever did as towing is concerned. Power is not a problem, distance between fill ups are incredible now while towing, and I only change my oil & filter once a year now. Can't complain about anything on the truck at 100k miles, except I feel the paint could have a little more life to it, and I wax it all the time, but at the right angle I see micro spider cracks in it.

RE: Pulled 5er over Teton Pass - OMG

That's why semi's have manuals , and EB's. And auto is a heat generator.

RE: Pulled the trigger today

For real the best engine ever put it a pickup. It'll out last 3 Durazuki's, and half a dozen Power Strokes.:)

RE: How Big are your Brakes?

Brakes are more than adequate these days,I put my focus on tire traction, and a well adjusted brake controller.:)

RE: Seafoam, Who has used it, what Results?

Works great for removing moisture from a crankcase, I found that out after driving my mower to the bottom of my pond.

RE: Blow 6.7 ford and tranny brand new

Do that 3 times, and you could get a new one under our lemon law here in Fl., but you'll have to pay for your mileage. I learned that the hard way.

RE: Feb. 23 is Diesel Engine Day

Everyday is Diesel day at my house.Mine too, and I can't even count all the broken down gas vehicles I pulled home with my truck. Folks in town think I'm in the wrecker business because a have a reliable truck, and a $20 tow strap.

RE: Better of the 'High Mileage' Motor Oil Options?

You may also be hearing lifter noise if it goes away in a couple of seconds. The 5.3 Vortec has hydraulic lifters that tend to bleed down and they tap a bit after a cold start. The Vortec is kind of a noisy engine when started cold- the intake manifold is plastic and it doesn't muffle the internal engine noises as well as the old cast aluminum manifolds did. The one engine I've had that had a bad rod bearing only made the noise when it was warm, and it was very quiet when cold started. Oil is a lot thicker when cold so you are going to have a pretty good film on there.Exactly, I've messed with a lot of those GMs, and their lifters take a while to pump back up if one bleeds down over night. And sometimes they'll stop for months, and then start clacking away again. If you put a heavier weight oil, it could take a mile or two before it will pump back up, which is not a good thing for your valve train. Use the recommended oil, and hope it stops, or replace the lifter that failing.

RE: Cummins diesels and mileage

My 05 gets as many mpg as my Grandprix, but it breaths free, and the timing has been tweaked to run smoother.

RE: Going Back to a Half Ton?

If your the type that likes to just hook up and go, think 3/4. If you like to take your time, and finesse your way there, a 1/2ton may do nicely.

RE: 06 Dodge Cummins to an 06 Duramax LLY

Money you saved will go out in repairs to the higher mileage vehicle, but the headaches will be free.

RE: Mileage expectations

Depends on the direction of the wind. I could do the same trip every year, one year I had a tail wind all the way home, and had an extra 1/2tank of fuel when I got home. That only happened once though.
