X2 My dad did the same thing to his tailgate on his '86 dually years ago, nice looking tailgate, I'm surprised nobody does this commercially. you did a great job, thanks for the pic. Cheers John.

RE: Brake controller problems

On my '08 F450 the TBC quit working, the dash display would say "Trailer Brakes Disconnected". What I found was the brake controller wire at the rear connector had "backed out" of the plug and was not making the connection to the 7 pin connector. The fix is to replace the factory 7 pin connector with the aftermarket type as the wires are held in with screws. My BIL who's a mechanic told me this is a common Ford problem. I would check this after determining if all fuses are good.

RE: Ford backup sensor

i have the same sensors on my ford. they beep when backing up but go to a constant beep when the tail gate is down. Is something dangling behind the bumper or is the tailgate down? I usually push the button on the dash to disable it when the tail gate is down. Just my thoughts. let us know what the problem is when u find it. The tailgate is up and nothing is dangling. It has been a little funky when wet lately but now it,s just a constant alarm when truck is in reverse. Thanks John.

RE: Ford backup sensor

The sensors work by ultrasound. Any debris on the surface or that little ring around the periphery will cause it to act up. If you wash your truck water in the region of the sensor causes mine to do this - particularly if you are in cold climate where it freezes. Don't stress about it, mine always quits doing it eventually - if it p*****s you off enough, I can shut mine off in the control centre - I do not know about yours The sensors are as clean as new I even used some vinegar on them to make sure there was no film- no scratches or signs of damage to the surface. I can shut mine off but I'd like this option to work as I find I like this option when backing in somewhere. Thanks John.

Ford backup sensor

Hi! I have a 2008 Ford F450 factory pickup with the rear backup sensing system. Just the audible alarm system that starts beeping when backing up to something and the beeps get closer together the closer you great to an object untill there is just a constant beep/alarm. What it's doing now though is the constant beep/alarm as soon as I put it in reverse even though there is nothing behind me. I tried to disconnect one sensor at a time to identify the problem sensor but the system goes to a fault as I guess it not a completed curcuit. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and are the sensors on these trucks bad-common problem. When I disconnected the sensors all connections were dry and clean.I also insured the sensors were clean and no dirt around them or anything. I'm assuming this is a sensor problem or could there be something else?? Thank John.

RE: Fixed the diesel fuel leak today.

I had the same leak in the water seperator petcock on my '08 6.4L. Funny thing is, is that this truck is built for ULSD fuel.

RE: Ram "Long Hauler" Closer To Production???

They sure do look nice and nothing against the Ram 5500 but if I wanted to go that big I would opt for one of these. https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS6gE2z9cPqXjDWz8IXNjb2tn_LG2dS3rFlunCqNLVUOgJyyPq0aA height=576 width=384 Taller to keep the bugs off the cap and it will turn circles around the long hauler :B X2. I honestly don't get why people are so interested in this truck. A freightliner M2 or International 4400 would be far better. JMHO.

RE: Cold Air Intake

On the air filter Ford uses on my 2004, I have heard that it flows better than most any aftermarket filter, and that hold true even when it is half full of dust. Have you really looked at that filter, and how it's constructed? The only mod for the filter that would possibly help would be to open up the snorkle at the front. Even better a 4 inch turbo back exhaust with free flow muffer, and drop the cat and resonator. Turbo winds up quicker so power come up quicker and mpg's go up slightly. Thanks for the replies. I've done the usual deletes (cat and dpf)but still using the stock muffler. Is the stock muffler too restictive?Isn't the stock exhaust 4"? I was trying to avoid an aftermarket muffler as my previous truck had a magnaflow exhaust and it had a real "drone" to it which was annoying. This truck has a cold air intake from the factory, so maybe I should get a factory filter and experiment with that? I thought the K&N was supposed to flow more air though. Thanks again John.

RE: 4WD problems showing up today.

Once again people trying to be helpful by diagnosing a problem based on a post on a forum. Some could be right. Do you want to start throwing parts at it based on that? Bring it to shop where they can run a scan and readout whatever code is set. That won't give you all the answers but it will point you in the right direction.. B.O. There will not be a code, the dash has a message center that has a light that says "service 4WD" a mech. would have to do a complete manual electrical check to diagnose this which would cost more than the cost of the switch pack. My truck, I replaced the switches for the: electric mirrors, electric windows, headlight switch,4WD switch. These trucks are known for faulty switches.

Cold Air Intake

You folks who are running a tuner, have you had to upgrade the cold air intake with an aftermarket one? My truck with the factory intake will "pop" the air filter minder when using the upper horsepower setting and being "heavy" on the accelerator. No problem to just reset the minder, but obviously the engine is sucking too much air for the factory set-up. I also use a K&N filter which is supposed to flow more air than the stock filter. just wondering what you other folks are using?? The truck is an 2008 F450 6.4L, H&s mini max tuner. Thanks John.

RE: 4WD problems showing up today.

When I had my 2000 GMC 4x4, the switch pack for the 4 wheel drive went bad- common problem. My truck was basically acting the same-same dash light. I don't think they've changed the switch pack since then. Check E-Bay as I purchased one for half of what a canadian dealer wanted-even though it came from a U.S. dealer- abouts $70.00. Takes 10 minutes to swap it out. Also the switch motor goes in those trucks, but that problem is it will not shift at all. I'm betting on the switch pack, just switch it out- cheap repair on a truck like that.

RE: Barely broken in

There's a good Canadian truck for you. Surprised the body hasn't rotted off, must of been well looked after, lots of rustproofing. The Dodge's around here always seem to have the rust issue. I guess you can't beat a CTD!!

RE: F350 Front End Alignment

Yep, same problem here too. Only certain shops will have a large enough rack, my truck (F450) originally went to a transport truck shop for it's first align, but that didn't turn out so well. Second time went to a large tire shop who had the correct rack. You just have to ask around, still a "crap shoot" as to the quality of the alignment!!

RE: World's fastest tow..

Now that my 450 has a proper alignment I should try that. HA HA HA Lol!

RE: F450 Front end Alignment.

Update: The truck went in to-day, they put it on the rack and the "Toe In" was out on that side. The camber adjustment was OK they said. Sooo the previous alignment ( 1 year ago) was done incorrectly causing the tire to get chewed up!! UGGG! you trust these guys to do the job properly and when they don't it costs me money and time! Guess I'll wait to make sure it's not going to chew up that tire before replaceing it again. Sooo that means that most 450's have an alignment problem that can be corrected but for some reason owners don't do it, as most of them I look at have this problem. Sure glad I looked into this issue rather than just putting up with it. Truck should steer better now! Will post again when I'm sure this issue is resolved. Thanks for the replies. Cheers John.

RE: F450 Front end Alignment.

Yeah I know, I hear ya! The shop you went to really knew what they were doing and you got a bargain at that price. The tires on this are $400.00 each installed so I don't mind spending some money to correct this issue as it seems to me the alignment is out, the truck should steer better when corrected. I would have to replace the passenger tire every year (10,000 miles) to stay ahead of this problem if I was to leave it alone! Yes I've been told I don't "need" this truck but I like it and I can afford it. Plan on buying a voltage 3950 or jayco seismic in the near future to give this truck "something to do" LOL. Cheers! John.
