FL to Bar Harbor ME

Will be leaving FL early Aug for Bar Harbor looks like the most direct route is I95. Looks like part of I95 in NJ and ME is a tollroad, is this correct? Another question is what is the best route around Washington and New York city, or should I just stay on I95.
We just want to get directly up here for three weeks. We will slowly work are way back middle starting middle Sept and home around Nov 1st
We allready have that figured out. Just looking for the above questions.

RE: Traveling from Tallahassee to Ft Myers

If your in a hurry take I75. If you want a scenic inland FL take 98 down to Perry continue on 19 down to Crystal River. Crystal River is an interesting area alot of nature and home of the manatee and just down the road the Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park. Alos a very nice RV park, Rock Crusher. After Crystal River the you want to get back to I75 and down.

RE: Quicker route - I-75 thru Everglades or US41 to Keys?

Road construction on 41 for about eight miles, down to one lane with flag man. Will slow you down alot, stay on I75 to tollroad and down. On your way back if you have time take 41 to see FL. On the way back you could take hwy997 just before homestead up to hwy41 and thru the everglades. Also a SP along this route Collier Seminole SP good place to stop if you have time.

RE: Bike Ladder racks

I would suggest a hitch on the front of the TV. We instaled one and very happy with the outcome. Your starting to see more of this setup on the road.

RE: Shenandoah National Park Campgrounds

Do you plan on entering the Blue Ridge at Cherokee NC where it starts?
This will give other's an idea for campgrounds on the Blue Ridge. We have not camped on the Blue Ridge or Skyline didn't want to pull the fifth wheel up there. We have friends that travel both yearly and enjoy all the campgrounds. No hookups you will need a generator, you can get gas along the Blue Ridge and on the Skyline, but have to get off the mountain for diesel.

RE: Shenandoah National Park Campgrounds

The OP asked about campgrounds also along the route. We need to know where there starting from and the route to answer that question. I for one try to use COE and National Forest campgrounds as much as possible.

RE: WI to TN

I firmly belive that RV's should be in the Truck lane going down the grades. This lane is the right hand side, the truck run away ramps are placed on the left. They are built going up the side of the mountian to help slow speed. If you stay in the left lanes your in the way of cars that can go down hill faster than a truck. If you need the run away ramp you cross over and up the ramp. People will know you have a big problem.
Follow the signs for trucks. I have come down that grade alot with a large fifth wheel, it's not bad if you follow the rules and go slow, down shift into a lower gear. Your not in a rush to get anywhere.
The OP just wanted a route I'am sure he's been down this grade before.

RE: WI to TN

X2 on above route, you pickup I39 in Rockford Ill. We pulled from Chattanooga and now FL for years, tried diff ways and this works. We stayed at a great campground in Effingham ILL on I57. It's about half way give or take.

RE: Shenandoah National Park Campgrounds

Take a look at his campground, just below the Blue Ridge and very close to the start of the Skyline parkway South end. You have 50amp elec at site. You can drive and explore the entire skyline and parts of the blue ridge. We spent 10 day's there and had a great time.

Oscar Scherer State Park FL

Going to spend a week next month at Oscar Scherer site 13. Site says max unit length 36ft site length 58ft. Our fifth wheel is over all 36ft plus TV. They also have long pull through sites but max unit 36ft. Has anyone been to this park, what's the reason for 36ft max?? Are the roads narrow and alot of trees, a couple of tight turns that might be a problem? We go to some tight places but never at this park.
Just wondering what I may incounter there. Picture of site on RA not any help.

RE: florida atlantic coast help

Forgot to mention to book right away very popular place. The best sites in my opinion the COQU sites are the best. These would be sites 106 through 138. With that said the whole parks is great.

RE: florida atlantic coast help

Take a look at this FL State Park. It has what you want and the city of St Augustine is a must see while there. In Sept you should be able to get a spot, you can book for Sept now if you have the dates. FL State Parks let you book up to 11 months out.

RE: We Are Now RVers!

With that size trailer you want the stability of a dully. We had a 2500hd when we bought the new fifth wheel, it just didn't do the job. Upgraded to a 3500hd dully what a dream, hardly ever know the trailer is back there.

RE: Is a slider hitch required on GM short beds?

We towed for with a GMC short bed and had a slider hitch. The dealer suggested it just in case. I used it more than once, I couldn't make a sharp turn in the nonslide position. I would say the sharpest turn without sliding was less than a 90. The truck was a 2005 short bed extended cab. I would get the slider for those just in case day's.
