RE: First ever trip - please comment on our park choices

Brennan Beach has a ton of seasonals and a small section for transients. I have a number of family members who have seasonal sites there. It's great fun for kids, and there are lots of activities on the weekend. The RV sites are fairly open, grassy and close together.

RE: Grand Teton National Park- Park Recommendations

I think all the sites in Colter Bay RV park are pull through.

RE: PA to Grand Canyon July/Aug 2013 Help

We went from Philly area to Grand Canyon in 2010. We did St. Louis, OK City, Albuquerque, Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, Meteor Crater and Grand Canyon. From St. Louis to Grand Canyon you can follow much of the old Rt. 66. Roadside Americahas lots of fun places to see along the way like the World's Largest Rocking Chair and Cadillac Ranch. I also keep a travel blog. Here's a linkto our trip west.

RE: Hershey Park

I'd also recommend Hershey Highmeadow especially if you plan to go to the park. They sell significantly discounted tickets to the park as well as the free transport. At the park you can do a "preview" for the last 2.5 hrs the park is open then use the same ticket for the entire next day. When you stay at the campground, you can also enter the park an hour early. Only part of the park is open that first hour, but it does get you ahead of the crowd. You definitely need reservations for weekends in the summer and there are limited FHU sites. They have lots of WE sites. The bathhouses are nice and clean. There are train tracks on the one side of the campground, and the train does run around the clock. It never bothered us in the summer with the AC on.

RE: Wanted: view - Grand Teton RV Moran??

As others have said, the sites at Coulter Bay are wooded, but the location is awesome. You probably need reservations for a FHU site. All the FHU sites are pull-through. Just a short walk from the camper, we had this view: http://christa9688.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/20100807-006_am.jpg

RE: Ft. Wilderness w/pets back & forth

We also usually come back mid-afternoon and then head back to the park for the evening after dinner. No issue with fireworks, so no advice there except to maybe choose a loop further from the beach where they have the fireworks.

RE: Rafting Grand Canyon

I looked into this myself when we went in 2010. Since we were travelling from the east the float trip options in Page, AZ, seemed like the best choice for us. We didn't go, but here's a link: http://www.canyon-country.com/lakepowell/rafting.htm

RE: grand canyon from St. Louis

We stopped in Oklahoma City and Albuquerque on our way from St. Louis to the Grand Canyon. We stayed at KOA's both places, but they were just ok. Fine for just an overnight. At the Grand Canyon, we stayed in Trailer Village at the South Rim. The campers are very close together, but the location is great.

RE: Niagra Falls and Hershey questions.

We are also doing the Northern route we have our passports, but we need to get the kids theirs. BTW our kids will be 11 and 12. I am thinking about the Amish country. this is why this forum can sometimes be helpful, always more ideas coming up. If your kids like coasters the way my 12-yr-old does, I'd plan for at least 2 days in HersheyPark. Cedar Point is smaller, and we were able to cover it in one day. We stayed in the campground both places. The discounted price from the campground is a great deal at both. Hershey details: It has a shuttle from the campground to the park. The shuttle runs about every 30 min. The waterpark is in the amusement park, not separate. Bring or wear swimsuit, but also have clothes to put over top. They have rules about having yourself a little more covered in the amusement park section of the park. The hour early entrance is worth it even though only part of the park is open at that time. To avoid lines, head to the big coasters or the big waterslides as soon as they open the rest of the park. The waterpark closes earlier than the rest of the park. The night before preview is also a great deal. Since HersheyPark is an easy day destination from lots of places, it clears out a lot after 6pm. Cedar Point details: It's an easy walk from the campground to the park. There's no pool in the campground itself, but you are allowed to use the one at the adjacent hotel. The waterpark looks small and tickets are separate from the main park, but the campground has a good deal if you buy them as a combo ticket. We were there mid-week in Aug. and had very short lines at all the rides. We have been to Niagra Falls, but no camping, and only a day trip. It seemed like enough for us. I grew up in Lancaster. Lots to do there as a tourist. If your kids have no exposure to the Amish, it is worthwhile. Also outlet shopping and no sales tax on clothes in PA. Sounds like a fun trip!

RE: Camp Ground in or near Hershey/Lancaster PA

Lake in Wood is very nice. It has a large percentage of seasonals, but the transient sites we stayed in were close to the pool and playground.

RE: Dis.World Ft. Wilderness,Pet Site?

During busy times of year, they designate additional pet loops.

Be sure to make reservations as the campground fills up on the weekends.

RE: Yellowstone - bear watching

We saw a number of bears on our visit to Yellowstone in Aug. 2010, but we went looking for them. In the office at Fishing Bridge (and probably other places, ask the rangers), they keep a wildlife sighting log. We checked that and drove in those areas. We saw the most in the Lamar Valley. "Bear jams" were pretty common. We usually saw the bear where others were pulled over. Good luck!

RE: F Y I

We saw freezing temps when we were there in Jul. 2010. Our guide on the float trip on the Snake in Grand Tetons told us that there is only one day in mid-July where there has never been recorded snow fall there.

RE: Strange, Odd, Unusual and Off Beat Attractions....

We had a lot of fun with the roadsideamerica.com site and our trip across the country: http://christa9688.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/20100211-025_fred.jpg Farmer Fred & Clyde, St. Louis http://christa9688.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/20100211-031_rocker1.jpg World's Largest Rocking Chair, Fanning, MO http://christa9688.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/20100211-039_fork.jpg?w=500 Largest Fork, Springfield, MO http://christa9688.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/20100727-007_missle.jpg?w=500 National Museum of Nuclear Science and History, Albuquerque We also saw the Cadillac Ranch on that trip. Someone else posted a photo of that one. On a trip to New England, we added a few more: http://christa9688.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/eartha.jpg?w=250&h=333 World's largest rotating globe, Yarmouth, ME http://christa9688.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/sub5.jpg?w=500&h=333 USS Albacore (Sub in a Ditch), Portsmouth, NH http://christa9688.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/paper_house.jpg?w=500&h=333 Paper House, Gloucester, MA

RE: Yellowstone what to do?

Unless you a big on hiking I can't imagine what will occupy 8 days at Yellowstone. I disagree. We could have gone animal watching all day, every day for a week easily. We saw grizzlies, wolves, elk, buffalo, etc. I guess it depends on what you're into.

RE: Planning a 2 wk trip out to Yellowstone from IN...HELP!!!

... Then find a campground so we can hook up. (Does Custer State Park have hookups?) ... Some of the campgrounds in Custer State Park have electric. That would be my vote. We stayed at Rafter J Bar campground for full hookups, but I'd stay in Custer if we went back again. Rafter J was great, but we prefer a little more rustic like Custer.

RE: Any suggestions on Ft Wilderness

Better make your reservations ASAP. Every time we've stayed at the Fort during a peak time, we've made our reservations about 9 months in advance.

RE: Lehigh Gorge Campground, White Haven, PA

Try hickory run state park, its close to white haven, and people like it. Hickory Run is electric only. The OP was looking for full hookups.

RE: Another Yellowstone question

I think 8 is still too young by about three years for a once in a lifetime trip. I don't think 8 is too young. We took my daughter to Europe at 7. She remembers everything and was old enough to keep up with us walking. She was 10 when we went to Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, etc., but she would still have enjoyed it at 8.
