RE: securing an external RV cable

For now, we have the same set up. We ran the cable down the ladder then ran it along the window frame with black tape (black frame). When we get some white duct tape we will probably replace the black tape and drop the cable a little lower. I don't think anyone will be looking close enough at our trailer to notice it.

RE: List of places to visit, recommendations?

One thing we enjoy is local flavor. In Kentucky it was the bourbon trail; in Wisconsin, cheese; New Hampshire, Maple syrup; Virginia, wines. Every state has something they are known for. Sampling and buying to stock the fridge is a good diversion. Also, South Carolina low country food, Louisiana cajun, Maine lobster, North Carolina and Kansas BBQ...
Factory tours are also interesting.

RE: Water Pump Low Pressure in Kitchen

If there was a leak, the pump wouldn't go on and off, it would stay on. Sounds like something is blocking the water - either in the hoses or in the faucet. Is it happening with the hot water and the cold water? Then it is probably the faucet. If it is happening with one or the other, could be that big fat spider.

RE: Tongue storage rack?

Someone used to make a bike rack that could mount in the same place. I could never find one though.
I've been looking for it, too. No such luck...

RE: newbie with generator questions

If you aren't dry camping for more than a long weekend at a time, you should be able to last on two batteries if you keep the light usage low. We do it all the time. We have a 300 watt inverter we use for the tv and laptop to watch movies. We heat up our water on the stove and pour it into our drip coffee maker. The only time it is a problem is when we have to use the furnace.
Before spending $1K on a generator, try dry camping for a couple of nights and see how you do.

RE: Suggestions for a lightweight small travel trailer

R-pod or something similar will be your best bet. The Jeep isn't going to like dragging a sail behind it. The R-Pods shape will minimize that a little (though a pop-up would be better).

RE: Hanging towels in bathroom

We have a hook like this that we hang on the bathroom cabinet door. It goes inside the cabinet while moving (our last tt had a regular holder and the tp ALWAYS ended up unrolled on the floor).
We use ones like these for towels.

Maybe your old tt had low flow faucets (aerators) and the new one doesn't.

RE: Smell of Mold with no Visible Signs of Water

Is it at all possible that someone put wet towels or clothes or paper in the closet that has since dried? Even if the object is no longer there the smell can remain for weeks or more in a closed closet.

RE: Axle flipping thoughts...

No regrets at all on our previous tt (our new one came with flipped axles). It raised the tt even with the truck (had to re-adjust the hitch). Towed better, went off road better, and stopped bending and scraping the leveling jacks. We used 4X4s under the jacks (flip raised the tt 4").

RE: Clearing slide-out roof before leaving camp

I climb up onto the roof and sweep. I also use that time to check for leaks, cracks, and other problems. The whole thing, sweeping and checking, takes maybe five minutes. BTW - on our tt at least, the slide roofs aren't rubber.

RE: First time as a seasonal camper

At home, I open the backdoor and my dog runs out and plays, chases things, and does her business. I can't do that at a campground as she must be on a leash. Because she needs that run around time every day, the only way to do it is put a leash on her and walk her. The campground, since I am already there, is a convenient location. It's not that I don't have anything better to do; my dog has to go to the bathroom and has to get some exercise. Most days, she goes two or three times. By the third day at a park, the scenery is kind of monotonous, but what can you do?
When walking, I carry a poop bag out in the open, sometimes waving it around to ward off the dirty looks. I make a big production out of scooping my dogs poop so the glaring people who have congregated to watch my dog poop can see that, yes, I scoop my poop.

RE: 2008 f250 disel milage

Wow. Ours must be special. We easily averaged 10 mpg hauling all the way to Montana and back. And to Utah and Arizona and back. Going to Florida, since it is flat most all the way there, we averaged 11.5. The only time we saw less than 10 was in the West Virginia mountains. Oh, and when we were off roading in Utah we got 8.5. On highway without the tt we get about 17.

Verizon Wireless offers emergency alerts. It worked this spring when I was in the swamps of Georgia with almost no cell reception.

RE: Va. St parks and pet fee

Just wanted to mention that in both Maryland and Pennsylvania, pet sites are limited. If there are no pet sites available, you are out of luck.
In Virginia, all sites are pet sites but you must pay an extra fee. I have no problem paying a fee if I know a site will be available. Often in both MD and PA, one has to book months ahead to get a pet site.
In many private parks, one is limited by size, weight, number, and breed. Virginia doesn't do that.
I don't see it as a penalty, I see it as a benefit - I can bring as many dogs of any size or breed I want and camp in any space I want.

RE: Why do your kids keep yelling at our dogs?

Every time we went outside with our dogs the little kids opened the window or door and proceeded to yell at our dogs as loud as hey could.
Can I ask what they were yelling? Just curious... It is hard for me to understand that sort of behavior and the parents that will allow it to be repeated.

RE: Two wheel drive or 4x4?

We have 4X4. We have used it towing a couple/few times (the truck *may* have made it through without the trailer in 2wd). We have used it a lot not towing. As far as we are concerned, it's a lot like bear spray - useless unless you need it, priceless when you do.

RE: What older Jeep Wranglers to avoid

<--- another vote for a Rubicon LJ
I have a 2005 Rubicon Unlimited.
The perfect jeep! A little longer than the TJ but not as long as the later unlimiteds, still with only 2 doors. If I ever buy another one, this is it.
