RE: Remove or leave on trailer hitch?

That's right...I've got opinions, just like everybody else here! And you know what they say about opinions :B

RE: Remove or leave on trailer hitch?

Every vehicle has side mirrors, the great majority don't have hitches sticking out of the back. Mirrors are not at shin height.
People expect to see hitches installed in campsites, they are camping. Most people in supermarket parking lots are not campers and don't tow trailers or own trucks.
Then why should we put in our mirrors if those are to be expected? Not all people expect to see hitches at campsites. There are a lot of visitors and kids at campsites. Not all visitors are expecting it and many kids just don't know better. But they all learn to watch where they are going.
I'm sorry, but this is really a stupid thing to expect people to do something and tell them it's the "right" thing. Heck we can all list things that we think is the "right" thing. Everyone needs to take responsibility for their actions. i.e. where they are walking. Whether there are obstacles at shin height, shoulder height or head height. Look where you are fricking going!
wbwood--Couldn't agree more!!!

With all due respect...that doesn't relieve people from being aware of their surroundings while their are walking. I've stepped in dog poop while walking on the side walk. Sure the owner's should have cleaned up after their dog, but, I should have not stepped in it. I wasn't paying attention to my surrounding!! That's on me!

RE: Remove or leave on trailer hitch?

Sorry for bringing this back to life. :R
But, I thought of this thread while out and about last weekend. We were walking down a street where someone was trying to parallel park their small car. The truck in front of them did not remove their stinger which was not visible to the small car driver.
If you don't remove your hitch, please don't parallel park.
Or...if you parallel park, don't hit the the guys hitch in front of you! :R

RE: Remove or leave on trailer hitch?

The fifth wheel hitch comes out at home and the ball hitch stays in all the time.
Same here with the fifth wheel hitch...but come winter the ball hitch is always IN!! I live in snow country and there are a lot of "rear-ender" around here. Just one more form of protection. But, I do hate when my shin runs into it.

RE: Would I be out of line?

If he has the hatchet in his hands I would say now is not a good time.
I'll second that motion, especially if he's drinking beer while splitting the wood.
Is anyone else complaining?
Speaking of drinking beer...go over to him with a 30 pack and drink with him until it's "quiet time" or until he talks you into helping him! :B

RE: Medicine Cabinet Upgrade

This is how I did mine. Added the "short" shelf. The "dividers" are moveable, to secure the items. The slat keeps the dividers and items in place. I glued and use a brad nailer to secure the self to the wall.

RE: Manually cranking my 5th wheel jack stands

Last year our switch broke on the landing gear. Cranking is no fun. Went to the parts store, they were closed. Ended up buying a new 5er. Not fun as well. But--I'm getting to enjoy it more, now!!!!!! :B
So I guess the switch was back ordered when you found an open parts store? Love your way of fixing the problem though.:B
Truth be told...we didn't pick up the new unit until after our ten day trip. It gave them time to clean it up. So I figured that I'd just crank that "sucker", for the rest of the trip. Cranking it up to leave and then again when setting up...that's all that I could take. Went and bought and installed the switch. Between the price and ease of installation...that's when I really started to cry!!!! :S

RE: Hubby bought.....

I better rush down and buy a 5th tailgate. Have been towing a fiver for 20+ years and have not hit my tailgate. I am getting older now and will probably forget to open it one day. Have had to replace two tailgates from daughters backing into things and they are costly.
Happy Trails

Bob--after 20+ years, you maybe "programed" to a very good routine. Guys like me, only 5 years, have still got that "learning curve" to over come. :)

RE: Organizing the basement compartment tomorrow!

Organization is a good thing. We not only use the plastic totes, we also separate items in clear plastic "bags" that linens come in.

alcoa rims

I'm doing a little research for a buddy. He has a 1965 GM PD 4106 conversion. He's looking to replace the stock rims with Alcoa rims. Does anyone know what the sotck size for this bus? And maybe anyone that may be selling a set? Thanks!!!

RE: Running with gas fridge on

The kitchen is in the rear of our fifthwheel. I don't even worry about it while refueling. I have over 35' from the filler in the truck to the refer in the trailer. :)

RE: grafitti artists????

I know how you feel. I had a neighbor that didn't like the structure that I put up, to protect the trailer. He told the city, not me, that it's reflection was too bright. I wanted to buy an Airstream trailer and really polish it up. What do you think of "that" reflection, huh???? But after a few days of "stewing" I just put a screening on it, to kill the reflection. The city was satisfied, I didn't care what he thought. If he would of come to me..."we" could have resovled the problem, mutually!!

RE: just a question??... Would you stop?

I have. First question: do you need help? Second is: do you need to call someone? Offering my phone. I have changed tires as well as let them use my phone. Just be careful out there...I don't want to read about you in the newspapers!!
