RE: Half Empty/ Half Full... lol

I appreciate the desire to get better fuel mileage..less weight and slowing down certainly help.
But, when it is all said and done, keep in mind that we are talking RVing...good fuel mileage and RVing are an oxymoron.
You will probably spend lots more money retrofitting your rig than you will save overall in mileage.
I just accept the fact that it is going to cost me and get on down the road.

RE: Being prepared for a disaster

My thinking...as long as my loved ones and dog survive I will be OK. The rest of the stuff, although hard to lose, is just stuff.

RE: Duramax cold weather MPG drop?

Yes your mileage will drop in the winter.
Once the stations switch to winter blend to help keep from gelling.
True.
Don't forget to add power service or similar each time you fill up.
Why does he have to do this? Enlighten me.

So..help me out here. I'm always interested in learning.
Why did you put dry ice in your frig? Why not just turn it on and get on down the road?

RE: Retired, may I ask your opinion

What I am deathly afraid of is, I continue to work very hard and drop dead before I ever do retire.
So for those of you that have been there done that is my thinking correct? Or should I worry about saving more, or do something in between? Want to do stuff now while we are in good health.
Keep in mind that HEALTH IS THE REAL WEALTH.
Why not do both - keep working AND do some extended vacations. You will know when it is time to retire - the "burn out" will hit you.

RE: tow package / 5th wheel tow same?

Generally "tow package" means an aux. oil cooler, hitch receiver and the truck is pre-wired or already has a 7 pin receptacle - also pre-wired for a brake controller.

RE: Basic TT Towing Question?

Take it easy
Make wide turns
Practice backing up (if you can't back it up you shouldn't be pulling it forward).
Good luck with it.

RE: Jayco Melbourne 24e

Steve,
Welcome to the Forum and congrats on retiring.
Having some experience with extended RV living I will ask you...are you sure you want to live in an RV for 3+ months without some form of transportation beside the unit itself?
Might want to rethink this plan as you work through your choices.
Good luck with it all.

RE: 6 ga wire

IF you are going to use this wire to connect two or more batteries together - I bought "starter cables"...they come in various lengths...any auto parts. Here is what I got at Auto Zone.

Have nitrogen in our Subaru tires.
Pain in the neck to find nitrogen while on the road.
For the life of me I can't find any advantage.

RE: Water Heater Bypass Valve...

Are you sure that this valve is your by-pass valve?
Most often, bypass valves are located very close or are attached directly to the back of the water heater.

RE: Pleated blinds losing pleats

We have heard that this can happen so...
When we are not using our trailer...we store it with the blinds UP to keep the pleats pleated. (trailer is stored indoors).

RE: Testing breakaway switch

How I test mine
1. Place something in the bed behind the hitch for the break away cable to catch on.
2. Make a sharp turn on to a very busy street or highway.
When the trailer tires lock and you are stuck blocking multiple lanes of traffic, you will know for sure that the break away system works. :S
Perfect..except you forgot to tell him to bring his wife along so she can add to the stress by chirping at him the whole time...

RE: Help with picking best years of Dodge and Chev diesel?

One suggestion (if you can find one).
Consider a Chevy/GMC with the LBZ generation diesel.
2006 or 2007 Classic.
Duramax with none of the new EPA required stuff + Allison 6 speed.
Great combination.

RE: Testing breakaway switch

Do this when the umbilical cord is NOT hooked to your truck (could damage your brake controller)
*Pull the plunger out.
*Listen for the brakes to lock up. You will hear the pads slam closed or hear a hum at the wheels.
*Lube the plunger and push it back in.
*Don't leave it out too long or it might burn up the magnets on your brakes.
You must have you batteries installed.
