RE: Buying first RV need advice

Part of the problem is that this is the time of year dealers think they can get what they want for their inventory. Rockwood makes a great camper and the one we started with 25 years ago is still going at our daughters home. That said I wouldn't pay that much for one for any reason.

RE: W-2, 1099, or what

Let's don't forget if you work for your site with the Feds (any branch) or states. You will get a site and you won't get a W2 or 1099. Now if they pay you, that's different. Guess why we only do the feds and the state parks.

RE: Checklist to prepare for FT?

Insurance can be a big one. Not only do you need insurance on your rig and TV you also need Full Timers insurance. When you have a S&B your blanket liability on your home owners usually covers your RV also. When you sell the house you lose the blanket liability. Also look at what coverage you have on the trailer. If you only have book value coverage and you lose your home you will only get the money to purchase another used rig. If you have replacement coverage, you'll pay more, but if you loose your home you'll be able to move in to a new one.

RE: 5th wheel tire blowouts.

One thing to remember is that dealers order the rigs with as cheap a set of tires as they can get by with. Tires don't sell rigs, amenities and floor plans sell rigs. OEM tires are the main source of the threads about tire failures on heavier rigs.

RE: Clothes Hangers

We use a similar product and they work. I've had to rebuild the closet rod when it came down, but the clothes don't fall off.

RE: Sewer Hose Storage Gone Wrong

Instead of a pipe get a square plastic end fence post. Because it's square you can turn the connectors cross ways and it will fit. I screwed the cap on one end and use small bunge cords to hold the other end on.

RE: Roadside Assist and Repair Warrenties

You will find that AAA differs by state. If you ask the sales folks they'll tell you that they will tow both your TV and your rig in an emergency. Call the # you would actually call in an emergency. I'd had AAA for years and had RV coverage. When I called the emergency line and asked if they would tow me they said I was too long so I asked for a supervisor and they agreed that AAA wouldn't tow me. Now that's in Kansas, other states are different. We checked GS and Coach Net and went with Coach Net and have been very happy. They sent a truck out to change a tire for us at the Imperial National Wildlife refuge were cell phone service was almost non-existant and GPS can't come within 6 miles of it. They have also recommended mobile RV service people when I've asked.

RE: RV is totaled --now what?

Wouldn't touch a Class B for 6K. I wouldn't even buy a car for that let alone a camper, engine and drive train.

RE: Choosing a Fifth Wheel!

Floor plan and livability is the first issue. Quality and service is then the deal breakers. Many, including us, have only great things to say about Keystone Customer service and would buy another Montana if we had a need, but your choices may very.

RE: New Tires

We're also watching this on the Montana forum. Several folks there are trying them out.

RE: Are the cactus in bloom now?

The cactus are only beginning to bloom here at Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Superior, AZ. This has been a cold winter in AZ and NM so I would expect that the cactus may not start to bloom for a couple of weeks yet in NM.

RE: TT or 5th wheel - - Height issues and Pucker factor

We are 13'6" and haven't ever had a problem. Have an RV GPS and an app on our Ipad for low bridges if I want to double check. You can also just get a truckers atlas at a truck stop and it has low bridges listed by state.

RE: Communications

Depends on where you camp. In the US Verizon has the best coverage in areas we camp (state and national parks out in the boonies). I did the research and originally went with Mellenicom because they used Verizon. Soon after we began to have problems with slow data transfer and pages hanging up and I began to suspect that Verizon was throttling folks other than their own subscribers when their rural towers got near max usage. Don't know if that is true or not, but we went with a Verizon Jet Pack and have camped repeatedly in the same places we had problems and no more problems. For TV we use Dish network.

RE: Parking pad for my Roo23B

Used gravel and rr ties for ours. One thing about concrete if you're going to park on it over time. A Goodyear engineer at a RV Bootcamp stated that the black marks left on concrete are the concrete leaching the anti-aging chemicals out of the tires. He suggested if you use concrete or park on it in a park long term to put plastic placemats under your tires.

RE: Back up camera for our Montana 5th wheel

Check on the Montana forum. Quite a few members have them and some have provided slide shows on how they did it. Ozz also has a camera to monitor the front of the rig when parked. All part of the same system.

I heard it said "I miss Chicago". Unfortunately now days that joke fits too many places.

Since our home base is in Kansas during the summer this has always been a concern of mine.
