RE: Carefree awning adjustment

If it is 7 yrs old it could be that the spring just needs tightening. If it starts to pull up but just doesn't have enough umph for that last few feet, it more than likely just needs to be tightened. This not a do it yourself job. I've seen it done. It is extremely dangerous. Let a repair shop do it. It won't take them 15 mins if that is the problem..

RE: poor water pressure in camper

Some shower heads have a water saver device between the hose & head that limits water flow. If you remove it, the pressure will increase.

RE: Financing another 5er

Always put down a substantial down payment or trade in (25% or more). Never finance for more than 5 or 6 years (If you can't afford the payment for 6 yr term, you can't afford the RV) The depreciation on these things is horrible. They are a very poor investment. Ignore the above advice & you will be upside down on your loan before you can blink an eye.

RE: Upgrade travel trailer to 30-32 ft with 3-4 slides

I just went thru this same scenario myself. I was wanting used rather than new. In my opinion new trailers are a very poor investment. I've owned one new & will never buy new again. Only way I would buy new was if I was fulltiming. There just aren't that many TT that have three slides. You will be very limited in your choices. We went with a 5th wheel. Even when looking for used 5th wheels, there aren't as many 3 sliders. We looked at Montana & Everest. Wound up buying a Challenger. They are very comparable to Montana & Everest & seem to be a good value for the quality.

RE: Warranty for Keystone Raptor is a joke

Who is the hold up here? It is not clear in your comments. Has the dealer requested authorization from Keystone? If Keystone has received the request, they are dragging their feet. Find out why. If the dealer has not asked for authorization. Go get your trailer & find another dealer.

RE: converter lower unit

The lower part is the converter & charger portion of the system. I feel certain he means the upper portion is the fuse board. The converter changes the 110v shore power to 12V DC that runs your lights, pump, controls for fridge & furnace etc. This lower unit also contains the charger for your battery. Not sure what caused the fire, but since you were running your generator, I would have them check out the amperage & voltage output from the generator & also check the wiring from it to the converter/charger.

RE: Road bounce took my breath away

It was most likely concrete road. The expansion joints in the concrete are spaced evenly & can cause this rocking sensation. We've all had the same experience. Some stretches of road are worse than others. Some say that if you slow down or change speed it breaks the rhythm. When I bought my last trailer, initially my hitch setup was not right which made it worse. But we had just picked up our new trailer & was coming thru Greensboro NC on I40 where it intersects with I85. The road was so bad I told my wife to pick up & hold our new 10 week old puppy because I was afraid it might get brain damage from shaken baby syndrome.

RE: Awning Rot

Agreed When the awning is rolled up put 303 on all exposed awning material. Use it on anything rubber or plastic. Just sold my 6 yr old TT that I purchased new in 2003. Awning still looked new.

RE: brake controller not getting brake lite signal

If you're getting a 12V signal from the white wire from the brake stop switch, follow the wire to the truck wiring harness. Check the harness pins for corrosion & see if you get 12V coming out the harness. Also check continuity on your custom brake controller harness. I've never had a problem wiring one the old fashioned way. None of my TV's ever had a custom harness available for them. Since you have 12V coming off the brake switch tap that line & direct wire it.

RE: Do you cover your 5th wheel or not?

They are a pain to put on & take off. However if they were worth it, I wouldn't mind IT. After the 1st winter I was so disgusted with all the gray/black rub marks all over the place that I just threw the cover in the trash. The black rub marks were harder to get off than black streaks.

RE: Best way to sell my 5th Wheel?

Another important factor to consider Know your market. Know who you are selling to. You are not a dealership so I doubt you will accept a trade in. You're not a bank so I doubt you will be financing the sale for the buyer. Sooo... you've just eliminated about 80% of potential buyers. So, who does that leave? People who have cash money in hand or people who have perfect credit. Finding someone that fits either profile in todays world is like finding a needle in a haystack. But they are out there, Remember credit is still somewhat tight even for those that have perfect credit. Case in point: A dealer I visited was surprisingly candid & said they sold a trailer to a man that had a credit score of 805. They had to go through 4 banks before they could find one that would approve a loan for him. Bare in mind these folks that have cash in hand or perfect credit will be savvy shoppers & more than likely will not pay the average retail value for a used trailer in this type economy. They are the ones who have the upper hand in a deal in this type of economy. They are looking for the REAL deals.

RE: They want an offer!!!!!

Boomer719 wrote: If the offer was already rejected, how does making a lower offer make any sense? Well that's because many of the bankers you are dealing with don't have any good ol common sense. That's exactly why the economy is in the crapper. They probably made a loan to somebody who couldn't afford the RV in the 1st place. Now they are getting desperate. If they weren't, then why did they call back now but wouldn't return your call earlier? I say lower your offer. If they counteroffer to your original offer say yes if they pay all taxes & fees.

RE: Best way to sell my 5th Wheel?

I purchased a new-to-me 2006 5th wheel this spring. I shopped Craigslist, RVtraderonline, Ebay, RVNet, local & far away dealers. I shopped hard every day for 4 months. I traveled extensively in 4 states, even flew a plane over 1000 miles away looking for a good 5th wheel. At most of the dealers I visited in all 4 states there was usually good customer traffic in & out, so people are looking. I can't speak for your area, but here in the mid Atlantic states there is a serious shortage of decent used trailers. Most dealers have less than 4 total used units of any type. This is a down economy. Most campers are afraid to trade their RV's in an economy like this. The only people out shopping for RV's now, are the smart shoppers who realize that there are deals to be had from folks that are forced to sell their trailers. Back in the spring there were many many repo units sold at very low prices. That's what people are shopping for in this economy. If you list your trailer on the above sites at a price that is reasonable for this economy, you will not have any problem selling it. I sold my 6 yr old TT without even advertising it. I had it on my driveway cleaning it up & waxing it, getting it ready to sell. My neighbor mentioned it to her brother who sells RV's at a nearby dealership. He came over to look at it & bought it on the spot. Why? It was in very good condition & I priced it right for this economy. If you are hoping to get a good price for your trailer, wait for a better economy.

RE: Roof Leak Help!

I can feel your pain. I hate to be the barer of bad news but your original warranty would probably not cover this issue & I seriously doubt your extended warranty will either. If you read the warranty, it covers failure of the roofing material. Seams & seals are considered "normal" maintenance items & usually are not covered. But I would reread the extended warranty carefully to be sure. It won't hurt a thing to take the RV to the dealer you purchased the extended warranty from & let them give you a professional assessment.Who knows it may work out in your favor. It's worth a try. The other bad part is even if you have complete insurance coverage on it, it will not cover damage of this type either. They take the same stance as the RV mfg that caulked seams are normal wear items. As you may have now recognized, I'm speaking from experience. Sources of leaks are not always obvious. I can appreciate what you said "Every year we check roof for cracks where caulking is and re-caulk where needed. We have never seen any signs of leaks until a few days ago." It is very frustrating when you make an effort to prevent this from happening & it happens anyway. When I took my trailer into a dealer for water damage inspection, a very experienced older repair tech told me not to feel bad. He said twice every year he inspects his girlfriends motorhome for potential leaks. He recently had to pull out cabinets across the entire rear of her MH & redo the last two feet of her roof because of a leak that started since his last inspection. Leaks don't always come from the roof. Mine didn't. It came from the seam in the wall just above the slide out opening. It can come in around windows, cable TV wall outlets, etc. Get some professional help in finding the source of the leak. I hope the best for you.

RE: Tire/Wheel Question

Most of the time the weight rating is stamped on the inside of the wheel where the tire covers up. You really shouldn't have a problem going to a heavier weight rated tire. THE REAL PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN YOU PUT ON A LIGHTER DUTY TIRE. The tire distributor would have caught any problem on a mismatch tire & wheel. Unless you changed your factory wheels they are designed to carry the load of your RV & putting on a heavier duty tire will just be an added benefit.

RE: FREEDOM 10 INVERTER/CHARGER

Please excuse my lack of knowledge on the freedom converter. It sounds like a good one. Hope you can find a replacement. Safari must be light years ahead of most RV mfg.

RE: Bubble in my laminated siding.

The bubble is called delamination. Basically the Filon or fiberglass siding has separated from its backing. Sometimes it's nothing to worry about & other times it is a grave concern. The question is: What caused it? Sometimes the vacuum bond & adhesive process that holds it to the backing gives way & causes the bubble. Most times these are not too serious. Yor fix would probably work well in this case. Other times a water leak will cause the problem. This is where there is a grave concern because of wood rot. I would definitely try to find the source of the water leak. If the bubble is above the handle, more than likely the source of the leak is higher up.

RE: Slide out roof inspection

Be real careful how you place ladders against the side of your trailer. Last week someone posted that his ladder slipped & poked a hole in his fiberglass siding. Aluminium can dent & rubber roofs can be pinched & punctured.
