RE: 2003 Yukon XL Towing Capacity

I would shop dry camper weights no more than 6000 lbs. I wouldn't recommend being over 6500 lbs loaded for flat land towing. Mountain much less. Look for 5000-5500 lbs and be happier.

RE: Getting started....tow vehicle recommendations....PLEASE!

I'm towing a 6000 lb loaded trailer with my Expedition and a family of four. Pretty much as big as the truck can handle by hitch capacity, payload, wheelbase etc.
With a typical 23'trailer I don't think you can go wrong with an Expy unless you have five kids.
My previous trailer was 26' and 4200 lbs. It was a breeze to tow compare to the current trailer.

RE: Ford Explorer for towing

I would skip the midsize SUV and go with an Expedition or Tahoe/Yukon for a 26' trailer and that weight.
My previous trailer was a 4200# TrailCruiser 26BH. Really was a nice towing experience with my Expedition. The newer ones would be even better.

RE: New to towing, need some schooling.

I think you'll be ok with the information I found trolling on the internet. Not great but not out of control.
Dry weight is 5000 lbs and a GVWR of 11000 lbs. Typical toyhauler. Your buddies 6700 lb load weight seems logical. That TH has a 110 gal water tank! So obviously don't fill it up. TH will have a heavy tongue weight until you put your toys in the back. Length of the trailer isn't bad but it sure is tall! You still need to keep a eye on that tongue weight with an 860 capacity.

As mentioned, get a really good WD hitch with built in sway control. Pump up the tire to max PSI, turn off the overdrive and stay below 65 mph.
Setting up the WD hitch correctly will be key. A lot of good video instruction here (see top of this forum)

RE: Finally was able to weigh everything.

That's good truck choice to max out. :)
Ballpark 2400 payload, you're at 2900
10000 GVWR, you're at 10650
That long box it pretty convenient for those toys! That Cummins is a beast for power. My in-laws are running their 3500 Cummins at 20,000 GCVWR and right at GVWR all the time. Tugging at 10 mpg without an issue.

RE: Dump Station Etiquette

I run my slide out and usually rinse my black tank with a couple five gallon bucket tidal waves. I move pretty quickly. Some folks are painfully slow with just dumping water. Part of the experience.

RE: Towing Advice, what hitch for this combo etc?

The new SUNNYBROOK Sunset Creek 298bh has a dry weight of 6880 lbs
You'll easily add 1000 lbs of gear and goodies.
7880 loaded should give you around 1000 lbs of tongue weight.
I'd go for a 1200 lb weight class of hitch

RE: Ugh, another towing capacity question!

Towing power won't be an issue. 1175 lbs of payload is. As mentioned you will have at least 1000 lbs of tongue weight with that Artic Fox model.
You should go lighter trailer. 5500 dry.
5500 + 1000 gear = 6500 loaded trailer
6500 x 13% tongue weight = 845 lbs of tongue weight.
That leaves 330 lbs of cargo capacity for junk in the bed.

RE: 2001 F150 Supercrew Towing

You and I have the same drivetrain. I'm dragging 5900-6100 lbs most the time. From a seat in your pants and MPG pain, I'd keep your weight no more than 6500 lbs loaded.

RE: New Guy with 2010 Ford Exp.

Greetings,
I'm Dave from New Mexico. I've got a 2010 Ford Expedition that does not have a tow package. If I'm reading the info correctly it's rated to tow 6,000lbs with 600lb hitch weight.
I'm looking at a 2013 Gulf Stream Visa 23CSK travel trailer which according to the website's info has a dry weight of 3,730 lbs & 430 lbs hitch weight and is 26" long. Is there any reason this trailer is too heavy or too long for my vehicle?
I'm paranoid and don't want to buy a trailer and not be able to tow it.
Thanks in advance!
dv
4000 lbs dry is the most you want to go with your truck (no HD towing)
You will need a brake controller which also will require the 7 pin harness (Ford dealer part)
The receiver hitch is designed for the weight but you'll still need a WD hitch and sway control. I towed a 4200 lb 26' trailer with mine without issue using the basic WD hitch and friction sway bar.

RE: Can I use a Hensley or propride with a unibody chassis?

Go with the owner's manual information.
For example, my unibody Grand Cherokee had limits:
200 lbs unaided tongue weight capacity
750 lbs weight distribution tongue weight capacity

RE: Family of 5 ready for our first TT!!

You want to set your sights at something around no more than 6000 lbs dry.
Here's a great three bunk/outdoor kitchen unit. Weight is spot on too. Surveyor Sport 295

RE: Winterizing my Passport

where can i find the bypass valves?
Bypass valves are right next to your water heater. Watch this and at about 1:20 he explains the bypass valves.
Pretty good video to watch if you've never winterized before.
Good luck.
On my Passport, there's one value that bypasses the hot water heater. It's under the bunk bed. I had to remove the screws that held the mattress board to to the frame. Easy job.

RE: Ford Expedition and Travel trailer

Doesn't matter what generation expedition you have 6000 lbs dry is the most you should be looking to tow. Add 1000 lbs of option + gear and your exceeding the trucks tongue weight and GVWR limits. Also mpg will be dismal and grades a long haul.
I'm dragging 33' & 6000 lbs down the road with standard wheelbase. Would not want to take on any more.
