RE: Are you a 2nd generation RVer? What was your parent's rig?

I guess I would have to say 4th generation. My Great Grandfather went North to Alaska in 1897 to prospect for Gold. Don't know if you would call that Camping but they lived in a tent on their claim out of Valdez.Him and his 2 brothers discovered what was to become the Elamar Copper Mine. My Grandfather died on an Elk Hunting trip near Ellensburg Wa. My first camping trip was with my Mom and Dad when I was 7. Brother and I slept in the 48 Nash with fold down seats. Everyone else slept in a tent. That was in Oct.19 58. Mom died Dec.19 that year at the age of 38. Most camping was for hunting or fishing after that. I camped as a Boy Scout. Tents where all I knew until I went camping with a friend when I was 17 in a Airstream. I have had tents, several TTs and Moho's over the years. Got 2 generations after me camping!

RE: Is There a Doctor in the House is Tucson?

Why the recommendation not to fly? Hope you get better soon.Cabin altitude is generally 8000 feet, less oxygen than at sea level. If your blood oxygen saturation is sub par flying will make the situation worse. Do people "on-oxygen" fly? Just wondering because the no fly advice sure complicated her life. She could have been home days ago. You have to use a approved portable concentrator to fly, no 02 bottles allowed on airlines.

RE: NMOHVA Files Lawsuit Against Santa Fe Nat. Forest TMR

You may not think this issue applies to you because you only stay at RV Parks, but it does because They are going to get crowded because people won't be able to go ANYWHERE ELSE!!

RE: The RVs in your life

Started with a tent like a lot of people and it kinda evolved from there. I bought a lot of fixer TTs and made a few bucks on some. To many to remember, would repair the rot and use the awhile then sale them for one reason or another. Never had much money but Kids got to go camping a lot. Bought a 79 23' Winne Brave and found we liked the m/h, since then it's be a couple Cs to our current rig I bought cheap, 90 33' Holiday Rambler Monitor. How long will I keep it? God only knows and He ain't telling.

RE: NMOHVA Files Lawsuit Against Santa Fe Nat. Forest TMR

Not sure it this answers your question directly, but we have a federal reservation near us the opens its gates only during the deer season (maybe other seasons) and gates are closed all other times of the year. So, apparently hunting seasons have at least some laws that apply seasonally. What you may be seeing in that situation being played out is the immense power that the NRA (and/or other organizations like it) has working quietly day and night behind the scenes. BTW, that situation you describe is, for lack of a better term, "baloney" and - just like the main thrust of this discussion - needs to be challenged in court. :MMany Off road clubs along with the PLP( Public Lands for People) are taking the F/S to court over Travel Plans.

RE: NMOHVA Files Lawsuit Against Santa Fe Nat. Forest TMR

Don't count on the NRA to come to the rescue, NRA is mostly hunters and hunters like closed roads. Closed road make the critters more at ease and keep road hunters out. Our game dept likes closed roads to keep preasure down and in cahoots with the forest cirucis.to close the roads. "Closed roads" ........... hmmmm. Whenever I drive on highways through hunting country during hunting season(s) I see hunters driving down a bunch of roads either in bare pickups or pulling horse trailers or pulling ATV trailers or pulling camping trailers. I assume they are driving these roads to get to the areas where they want to hunt. Don't public lands roads have to not be closed for them to do this? If so, wouldn't an RV'er be able to drive down the same roads ... or is it possible (tell me it ain't so) that the powers-that-be would leave roads open for hunting during hunting season(s) but closed the rest of the time to all of us?In our area and several N/Fs out West the Forest Curcis will close roads that don't lead to a trail head or some sightseer place, to save money on road repair. Main roads will stay open, but side roads are gated or large Berms dug or large rock placed on them. Some road are gated during spring Fawning times, some gated during Hunting season. Some just don't get repaired after a slide or washout. Our Prospecting club has claims(as well as others) on a road that washed out 6 years ago. They won't fix the road because the Environazis are screaming to keep it closed to keep miners out. They want it for hiking. And they won't put a trail around the washout that is safe for horses. Greenies got thousands of square miles locked up in one flood.

RE: NMOHVA Files Lawsuit Against Santa Fe Nat. Forest TMR

I have been a forest user for my entire life, what is happening now makes me want to Puke and that's putting it MILDLY! You can thank the enironuts for the closers. They just want you to LOOK AT the forest but DON'T take anything. I love the outdoors,I'm 60+ yrs. old and can't get around like I used to. They LOCK ME OUT. I'm all for roadless areas, but how much is enough. If you think this issue is just getting started your wrong and it's just going to get worse. It started with the Enviro movement being taught in colleges across this nation. Don't get my wrong, I love this Earth as much as anyone, but they take it to extremes and WE THE PEOPLE are paying for it. Oh and don't think for one minute that if there's a Mining claim on that road they can't lock it up. They illeagaly do it all the time. I prospect and know all to well whats going on with the BLM and Forest Circus!!!

RE: fuel pump issues

Go with the Motorcraft pump not Oreilly's. Their pumps are not good and you only want to do this job one time. You will see why!!!!!!!!

RE: fuel pump issues

I just finished installing my fuel pump yesterday, It's a BIG job. You have an F53 chassis. The pump you need is a psf48, I ordered mine from Amazon($310+ wiring harness which you need). I had to go in under the bed to get to it, I could not get the tank out. I tried for 2 days and gave up. I have a 90 H/R Monitor. A lot of measuring(measure10 times cut once)and it made the Job a lot easier. Today I start repairing the acsess hole but that's not that hard. My coach is a basement model with heat trunk under the floor, had to cut through that to get to it. Got the old pump out and flipped it out the back above the tank so I didn't get gas inside. Your coach may be different but a shield at the front of the tank stopped me from lowering it. I had 12" above the tank, but needed 13". Just lowered the back some. Your pump is 33" to center from the BACK of the tank. Hope this helps. John

RE: I want to feel safe. Put my mind at ease.

I most certainly would not bundle up my kids and tell them they were in for a walk on the south side of Chicago, simply because its there and I can. Why would anyone want to take the time and money to camp with your 'family' where you knew you HAD to take all kinds of precautions to be safe? :HBecause sometime the best place are there!! I have camped All over Washington since I was 11, I'm 60 now. Dad use to drop my brother and I off with a tent, food and fishin poles for couple days at a time. Would I do that with my Grandkids today, Not a chance, Times have changed. If I'm leery of critters in the area I make sure the kids don't wander off and I have STOPPING POWER handy and KNOW how to use it.We very seldom go alone, most time with a small group of 2-3 other family's. Some places I stay away from, word gets out where Tweekers and Pot growers are. Invesegate before you go.

RE: use of cbs by rvers

N-S I-5 truckers use ch17 E-W use 19 most are to foul mouthed. We use GMRS handhelds most the time. I keep the C/B on low for traffic reports. gmrs might be handy if you are in a caravan with another RV etc. but totally worthless, as is a cell phone, in contacting other drivers, oncoming truckers, etc. bumpybumpy sorry I should have added that fact. We use the GMRS to talk to each other. Half the time the Kiddo's are with us it their rigs. But I do keep the CB on like I said. I ran Cb's before it was mainstream and had some DOOZY'S and could FLIP THE SWITCH and do other stuff like slide between chanels. My 23 canel CB had 43 chanels on AM plus the same on upper sideband and the same on lower sideband.was a rebel when YOUNG!! LOL

RE: WA State Chain Requirement

I GOT 4 WHEEL DRIVE I CAN GO ANYWHERE!! See that kinda Guy off the road all the time around here. LOL. 4wd will help you get moving but don't help you STOP!! I have been chained on all 4 tires and Drag chains on the 24' tt after having to have a Doser dig us out, At only 2900' elv. Freak snow storm during elk season. That one made the news, sadly at least 3 people died in that storm, one trying to walk out for help and 2 running the motor for heat with the exhuast under the snow. We had over 3' of snow overnight.
