RE: Microsoft Streets & Trips Program

For planning purposes and what-ifs and just sitting around daydreaming it is a great program right now and for years into the future. Possibly when driving down the road nearest cities with recent freeway construction and such you might want to fall back to an online app but I have no plans of abandoning S&T for a long long time. X2, it's a great planning tool. I don't look at any one program as the "Holly Grail" of trip planning. The final years route is input into GPS, which is kept up-to-date, any additional information is extracted from our phones. Fred

RE: Happy Camper or Frustrated Owner?

Happy Camper, I do preventative maintenance in the Spring time, check all systems a couple of times prior to leaving. Use extensive check lists prior to leaving and during each trip. We normally travel 5-6 months each year. Fred

RE: Problems towing a Ford Focus

"On vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, remove the negative (black) cable from the battery before towing. When finished towing, start the engine within 15 minutes of reconnecting the battery cable." This information came from the 2012 FMCA Towing Guide. Fred

RE: Redding, CA to Grants Pass, OR I-5

Siskiyou Summit at the Cal/Or boarder is 4,300 ft. with 6% grades on both sides, not a hard pull, however a long grade going North. Fred

RE: Difference in levelers

I believe the pad dimensions are more important, small footprints will dig into parking surfaces. I am noticing more RV parks with asphalt surfaces, requiring block under the levelers. Fred

RE: porcelain tile in gas motorhome

I agree with Scott, our '05 Dolphin has tile, along with Corian countertops, they had lots of weight. Look around, there should be good, attractive vinyl products on the market. Fred

RE: winegard Traveler slimline sat dish, how much wind?

I doubt it would take a 50 mph winds unless it's securely attached to the ground. Fred Fred, the Trav'ler is a roof mounted antenna. Supercub...why take a chance of the mounting screws being pulled out....just stow the antenna and watch recorded programs. We always have at least a dozen movies or other programs recorded just for such an occasion. good luck Ron Got carried away and keyed in on "Slimline", missed Traveler. Fred

RE: winegard Traveler slimline sat dish, how much wind?

I doubt it would take a 50 mph winds unless it's securely attached to the ground. Don't know how much weight it would take, I use a 5 gal plastic jug, weighing around 40 lbs. for my 1000.4 antenna. Possibly long stakes would accomplish a good attachment. Fred

RE: we put down a deposit on a new-to-us 2005 Dolphin

Dolphin is/was made by National RV of California. They are out of business. Major coach parts like the front or rear fiberglass shells may be impossible to replace. Ortega Manufacturing purchased the fiberglass molds when NRV closed. Parts can be ordered as needed. Fred

RE: Furnace issue

I had the same similar symptoms with me rear furnace.... fan would come on and it wouldnt light blew it out and it didnt help. Then one day while out at the races pulled the cover and ended up pulling circuit board out to look at it and check connections.Board looked fine except for the back side of board was covered in a nice layer of dust.I blew it off and wiped the back of the board off to clean it .Put it back together and it has worked ever since. I had this happen several years ago, now it's on my annual prep list. Fred

RE: Snow in San Diego Need to Winterize RV?

I wouldn't worry until the Nat'l Weather Service issues a "Hard Freeze" warning. Currently, 12/31, only the San Bernardino high desert, Clark & Nye Counties NV. are the areas of concern. Fred

RE: Induction Range top ??

I have used a Fagor portable for the last year, love the unit, probably used the LP stove twice. The Fagor unit is not cool to the touch after using, since the glass surface heats-up, however the heat dissipates faster than a conventional stove. If we were to purchase a new unit, Induction Cooktop would be on the "must have" list. Fred

RE: Gasser rides like lumber wagon

Why not? Harold the "P" Chassis is Ford not Workhorse! Get it right folks: "P" chassis were originally produced by GM, later by Workhorse. Ford chassis are F53. Fred
