RE: What size Bottle Jack is appropriate?

What's going on here? No one has jumped in to say that using a jack of any kind on the axle will totally destroy the axle and the tire on the other side. According to some "experts" using a jack on the axle will cause so much damage that you will need need to buy a new trailer! Hmmm maybe that's a good way to convince yourself or spouse... that you really do need a new rig. (I carry a 12 ton) It is kind of important not to use the jack in many parts of the axle. Just remember bottle jacks are very dangerous if used on a round axle tube. LostinAZ, Shhhh, I'm trying to convince my spouse that I need the Mor-ryde IS suspension on our new fiver.

RE: close call while towing

Bought a new truck and 5th wheel in 01, and first trip from TN to NC I hit a deer in heavy traffic, and could not slow or change lanes. Then three days later on the way back to TN I hit a bad hail storm, and broke out all the camper roof vents, and dented my new truck. It has been all good since then.

RE: 2013 Jayco Eagle 351 RLTS best price?

If it is a 2013, at least 30% because the 2014 is coming soon. I just bought a 2012 Cedar Creek Silverback for 31% off MSRP which can vary between dealers.

BFG Rugged Terrain Tire

I'm sorry to ask another tire question. but what do you tire gurus think about this tire BFG Rugged Terrain 285 75 R 16E 3700 lb. rated for my new fiver. There is room for them, and they are the same tire I run on my Dodge 2500 4x4. I was looking at the Commercial TA all season but only come in a 265 75R 16E 3200 lb. rated which would be ok. Trailer is 10400 dry, 2100 pin weight, 13000GVW. Thanks, Gary

RE: Pin box did I screw up?

If you have air bags on your truck I would think the Mor-Ryde would be perfect. I measured my pin box today, (1716) and it was 20" from the center of the pin to the first set of bolts, and I can walk between the tail gate and the camper easy hooked up.

RE: FL's Sandpiper vs. Montana vs. Cedar Creek

When I was 5iver shopping the Sandpiper was on my final list, and appeared to be a good RV.

RE: rubber roof question please help

It will not do any good to wash it with cleaner or sealer if its a epdm rubber roof... Best thing to do is keep it in a shed or carport when your not camping....let me know if you have any questions ..I'm an expert on epdm Roofing..I know a little about TPO and PVC too. I just sold an 01 Keystone 5iver, and I would swear that cleaning, scrubing, and leaving a cover on the roof for an extended period caused the roof to shrink up and crack everywhere. I had to sell it 5k under value due to the roof needing replaced. I just bought a new CC Silverback, with new cover, and might not even open the cover box.

RE: Break controller

I asked my hitch shop that I've used for 30 years about installing the maxbrake, and he said that due to most vehicles having ABS now that he does not reccomend connecting anything to the brake lines. I have heard nothing but good reviews about the maxbrake, but wonder why there is only one company making this type.

RE: Auto leveling system

If you already have electic rear stabilizers, then I would think all you need is 4 electric jacks placed just behind and in front of the wheels. You would level side to side before unhooking, and then unhook, and level front to back with the front jacks, and then lower the rear stabilizers. I just use wood blocks and they work fine.

RE: Tires for TV

My BFG Rugged Terrain's are rated 3750 also, and last a long time if you rotate every other oil change.

RE: Getting out of purchase due to over weight for truck

Maybe your salesman was as inexperienced at selling RV's as you were at buying. Just call and set up a meeting with the sales manager or owner and tell them your problem, and I would think they will work with you to solve it. I'm sure they have or could get another unit that would meet your requirements. If you signed more than just a buyers order, and the loan contract has been sent to the lender, then you might want to start looking for a truck. If they have not sent in the loan papers, you will have a better chance at a refund or applying it to something else. Just be honest with them, and explain that you didn't do your research, and a good dealer will do what they can to make you satisfied.

RE: RV Transport company

The last time I checked it was around $1.80 a mile for long distance, or a minimum fee.

RE: Help w/ FW size for new tow vehicle

Newbie here that needs some assistance in determining the right size FW for a new tow vehicle. I do realize that the correct course would be to find out what you can handle BEFORE you buy, but that didn't happen for us. We currently have a 26' TT, but we want to move to a FW no bigger than 36' overall length. TW is 2006 Dodge Ram Quad cab 2500 w/ Cummins 5.9 diesel. The FW that we have considered is approx. 11k factory weight. The truck came w/ a Reese 15k hitch. We only make one long trip per year, snowbirds of 1500 mi. each way so most of the time the FW stays parked. Should we shoot for a smaller FW or is the 11K workable? Any advice would be appreciated. Your truck will pull 13,000 ok if the pin weight is around 2,000. The bed of your truck can haul a 2,300 load according to Dodge. I would probably get a camper that weighed around 10,000 dry weight. You can always add firestone air bags to improve the ride, level, and take some stress off of the leaf springs.
