RE: hot water

One thing to check....... Main gas orifice......make sure it isn't plugged Thanks! 4 pages before the obvious (to me, anyway!) Unless I'm the only one continually plagued with propane-loving spiders! :)

RE: Brake Controllers

took me 5 minutes to install my P3 ... after spending an hour under the dash trying to find the dang factory plug!

RE: Generator Startup Proceedure

If the genny fuel pump runs and you don't get fuel to the genny carb, disconnect the fuel line and replace with a new line. Drop the end into a gas can and try again. If it starts, replace the fuel line back to the gas tank. Not sure if the Kohler is the same as a similar-era Onan that I had, but my fuel pump gummed up on mine one winter. Easy to pull apart, clean up and reinstall. If you don't hear the fuel pump running, perhaps check that next.

RE: Prices for a new roof.. Who knew?!

If I had no desire to use the higher quoted provider, I may have just replied "no, thanks." However, if I was really curious and thought I still might work with them, I might have responded similarly, except I might have asked for a detailed explanation to justify the considerably higher than market(? assuming) prices on everything... sort of a "tell me what I'm missing here?" approach.

RE: Hooking Up Batteries

ok, so referring back to the "how to balance batteries" attachment, if you move one of your load leads on the other battery, and move one of your inverter leads to the other battery, you'll be more balanced between the two... www.smartgauge.co.uk/batt_con.html You now have method 1 (except with 2 vs 4 batteries) whereas method 2 will balance them.

RE: Hooking Up Batteries

This gets referenced here a lot - very good info http://www.5thwheelforums.com/pdf/12volt.pdf How to balance battery connections here http://www.smartgauge.co.uk/batt_con.html

RE: Almost $1,000 for new tires....

tire prices have increased a lot battery prices have increased a lot fuel prices have increased a lot oil prices have increased a lot my paycheck has ... uh ... well... yeah I paid $800 for 4 tires for my Dodge Ram 2 years ago, so maybe tires haven't gone up that much recently? re: the airplane thing - yep, just finishing up an annual inspection on one of the 3 airplanes my club owns. Owner maintenance is the only way we keep it affordable. You think RV parts are expensive? Piper Dakota - Rebuilt alternator - $390 We calculate maintenance reserve dollars per flight hour and bank the cash to make these kinds of repairs. I should do the same for my RV - tires, batteries, etc per month to an RV reserve fund.

RE: A warning for my BBQ'ing friends

I use the thin edge of a cedar siding Shake/shingle. The shake develops grooves as you push back and forth against the grill and wraps around to clean the sides. No stray metals deposited and a clean grill. I think it may actually add a slight cedar flavor to the BBQ to boot. I like that! :)

RE: 5th wheels vs motor homes

yeah, bad stuff will happen re: above .... never happened back in the good ol' days, tho ... I still remember my dad flinging his right arm out across whatever little kid rode in the middle, every time he had to brake hard - automatic seat belts (for the record, this was back in the 50s and early 60s).

RE: Exhaust brake delimma

I put a PacBrake EB on my '97 Dodge Cummins (47RE auto tranny). Posts up above that say "won't work on earlier trannys are partially correct - won't work without a box or switch to force the tranny to stay locked up. ATS makes and sells one, I bought one from TS Performance. There's documentation online for making your own, but I wanted peace of mind that it would unlock before I tried to come to a complete stop, forgetting to flip a manual switch.

RE: Do you run dual batteries in series or seperate on your rig?

My '83 Ford E350 Fleetwood had 2 batteries under the hood, but reverse from a poster above. The passenger side battery was engine start, and the driver's side was the house battery. They were wired thru a battery isolater which let both charge, but separated the house battery from the engine battery on discharge, so you could not kill the engine battery with your house lights. Only one battery is going to have a cable to the engine starter - on the 460 of my era, it's on the passenger side.

RE: Will I fit?

I emailed support at ReserveAmerica a few years ago and asked them this same question. They said that selecting 5th wheel and entering the length automatically compensates for tow vehicle length as well. I did find that didn't work quite as advertised at Stillwater Campground at Lake Granby, CO. The site was long enough for my 5er but I had to park the truck crossways in front of the trailer. So, I guess "when in doubt, contact the campground directly and ask."

RE: Help with a Duracell 8D

lol - ain't that the truth! But what about National Aviation Parts Association (NAPA) for aircraft parts? :) Actually we do have a shop here in Denver that can/could/might ???? do starter rebuilds and does a wonderful job (what's this off of? Oh, gotta be a 68 Chrysler, right?)

RE: Help with a Duracell 8D

So you know how I am with craigslist and I found a Duracell 8D for $75. It's suppose to be a year old with little use, blah blah.... I tested the voltage at 12.78v and did a simple load test with one of my heavy duty airplane starters ... airplane starters? So, are you an owner or A&P (or both?) I'm at Jeffco (owner). Greg

RE: Costco vs Sams Club 6V Golf Cart Batteries

my local Costcos (Denver area - checked 3 so far) don't carry the 6V battery. I guess I need to call Costco Corporate customer service to try to find a store that does?
