RE: Thank you - Open Roads Forum

Good luck on the kidney transplant. My wife donated a kidney to my son (under 2 years old) in 1987. The kidney lasted 7 years but he weighed only 20 lbs when it happened. Now 2 more transplants later he will soon be 29 and is doing great. My wife has had no ill effects from the donation since that time. Living donation is so easy with minimal side effects to the donor.

RE: towing 77 miles

Have you considered trying to rent some tires on rims that fit the motor home? Seems to me you can rent some pretty unusual items these days. Why not make some phone calls to junk yards and other places. Heck if I had a vehicle with your size tires and rims and could pick up some money for letting you use my tires for a 100 mile trip, I would think about it. I look at it more as helping someone with a problem, more then making money. I may need a favor in the future.

RE: general question

I have a friend with only one arm who bought a GMC Elganza in 76 when he sold his GM dealership and semi retired at 50. He traveled all over in it from California to Florida to NYC. He said he selected his unit because of driving it in winds and traffic. He just gave it to his son a few years ago to be restored. I never knew of him to have a problem other then "having too much fun" in it. LOL. His condition did not bother him in the least. I would think it would be more what you are comfortable with then what you are capable of doing. Good luck to you.

RE: Late 80's 3208T DP top speed?

OP if you will PM me, I will share some info about a pristine 89 Vogue from the original owner, my 84 year old cousin. Detroit Diesel, less then 60k miles. He says the sweet spot for it is 75mph. Location is SE Indiana.

RE: questions about selling MH to person with financing

As an old banker, if this were my sale, I would simply go to my bank and ask them to handle the transaction. They may want to do it thru their loan department or thru their trust department. But they do it all the time and will have a system in place to do a "safe" transaction. It may cost you $50 or $100 to have it done, but it is a cheap insurance policy. Remember the financing bank wants to make sure they get their name on the title also. It sounds good to call the other bank, but do you really know that the number is not a friend of the buyer. There are all kinds of ways to scam somebody if you want to. Let your banker handle it then you have somebody to hold responsible if it goes south.

RE: Paving drive

You might want to consider having a concrete drive installed. Have the concrete stamped and put a stain on it. It would look like pavers without all the hassle. I know they have multiple patterns from stone look, different shaped pavers to tile look, etc and you can pick whatever color stain you like. As a real estate appraiser, I would suggest you employ a professional to do the work. Some day you will want to sell and a quality drive will be important. I see many homes where the homeowner tried to save money and it ends of costing them in the long run.

roof seperation

I was driving on I-74 east bound from Indianapolis and looked over in the westbound lane. There was a pick up pulling a nice TT. What I saw and he could not see or know was the front part of his roof was loose from the front strip. It was up about a foot across most of the front and looked to be up about 3-4 foot back. I imagine when he stops it settles back down and he would not notice it until a major rain storm or the wind tore it off. Unfortunately there was nothing I could do to alert him. I thought I might post this to alert people to check this area.

RE: Looking for used RV, need advice please.

sounds like it was either a B+ (which is actually a C)or a C. I did not look at the model you referanced but if you are looking for sleeping for a minimum of 5 it would not be a B. Good luck in your search

RE: 7 Pin Test - Need Help!

sort of on the subject but off. A good example of the toad needing power to the brake buddy is a trailer with brakes. They come with a breakaway battery that is powered only when the trailer disconnects from the tow vehicle and the plug is detached. I saw one nice toad 300 feet from the interstate when it broke free of the RV and rolled free right into a big tree. It was not pretty. At least it went that way rather then into oncoming traffic.

RE: how old should you go.

Interesting question. Have a relative that bought a Vogue ( I think) 40 ft DP new in 1988. He is very particular and tells me now that he is 85 maybe I should buy it. Detroit diesel has 65,000 miles and all records, etc. They lived in it at Hilton Head about 3 months a year then put it away. It is quality and very well cared for (waxed every year, etc) but if I want to really travel in it, when is old really old. Sure it will need things but will it need them in the middle of nowhere or ? That is what concerns me. The money is one thing but being stuck somewhere is almost more of an issue.

RE: Beware in keys

As a storage owner I look at things different. The unit is taking up space, I am not getting paid. I tried to contact the owner apparently without any luck. I hired some one to remove it in preparation of selling it. I was not concerned about the fees as it would be covered when it was sold at auction. It is not my job to protect people who do not do what they agreed to. OP agreed to pay monthly and did not, it is that simple. If OP had at least had the courtesy to contact storage facility when payment was due, it might have resulted in a different outcome. If people do what they are supposed to do, then this issue does not happen. Can't remember but if it was sitting on a camping lot, maybe the landlord wanted it off the lot so he could collect rent from a paying customer. The OP was in the wrong by not honoring his obligaction or at the very least communicating with the people.
