RE: spring time venting...

If you have it on hand, some 2x8's on top of plywood and you would be golden walking out of there. I was amazed how plywood saved my yard from a skid steer loader.

RE: 1st time out trip review

Sounds like you got a lot of stuff worked out and some issues many of us have had (steps, etc.) Bring a notebook and pen with as you will always have something you forgot or would do different. Glad you got to take the test run, enjoy!

RE: how much snow on fiver roof is okay?

We get quite a bit of snow here and none of the dealers clean snow off of them in their lots. I also don't seal any vents as dealers don't do that either. Record flooding here in 2011 due to record snows and I still didn't go up to clean snow off.

Water Heater Issue

About mid season (July-August)my electric side of the water heater stopped working correctly. I would have some hot water but not enough to get through even a combat shower. Simple fix on the road was to fire up the gas side and issue was resolved for the weekend. Upon further investigation I noticed that the annode rod was pretty well gone as it was two seasons old and that is expected. Since everything else worked fine and I couldn't find any other issues I am asking this. Would the annode rod being corroded cause the electric to stop working like that or do I have to dig deeper to find the problem? I have not replaced it yet as the RV season is over here in ND unless you are living in it out in the oil patch. Water Heater is a Suburban SW12DEL, 12 gal. gas/electric

RE: Wanted to share my experience....

Just to give you all a quick little update. My DW was released from the hospital today after surgery to put a plate and some screws in her elbow, now for the good part. We had to move sites once to accomodate those with reservations but the Country Campground still had room for us after some shuffling. However, last night being a big beach bash in Detroit Lakes, there were no spots available but the DW was to be released the next morning. What to do? The owner told me to dump my tanks while I had full hook ups and fill my fresh water, then move to his yard at the house, where he gave me power for the night, truly amazing folks, then, no charge for the evening. He would no take my money, I even tried to slip 30 bucks into his coffee fund at the office but his wife caught me. Can't say enough about them. We are now home after our little trip, safe and sound where the DW recovers, thanks for all your well wishes and Happy Trails!

Wanted to share my experience....

We were camping in Detroit Lakes, MN at the Country Campground which is a wonderful, well-kept and quiet, privately owned camground south of DL. Well we were getting ready to leave this morning when DW tripped over the fire ring while pulling our carpet out of the way of the FW tank overflow to avoid a mess. She fell squarely on her elbow with a POP and I ran over to see a severley deformed elbow. I yelled to my oldest and told him to get help from the managers office while I treated for shock, etc. The owner called EMS and came right over and assisted with providing shade for her on the ground, getting ice and all the other chaos. He then took his golf cart and ran to the gate to escort the ambulance to our site where my wife was then taken to the hospital and currently waits in a bed for surgery tomorrow. I had to go to the hospital behind the DW and since I have a 14 year old we are good to go for the two bys to stay back at the RV and not be in a boring hospital. The CG owners kept a watchful eye over them while I was gone, asked if they needed anything to help out to include pizza and popsicles and just gave me an overall warm feeling that my boys were in good hands. This is what I posted to their Facebook site: "Thanks Country Campground for everything today! As you know we had a minor medical emergency with my wifes broken elbow and you guys were great! We had to extend our stay due to surgery here in DL and I was not expecting to be able to extend our stay on a July weekend but you guys made it work. Even though my two boys are old enough to stay at home alone while i was at the hospital with her, you kept a watchful eye just in case they needed something. It is very comforting to know that people like yourselves and camgrounds like yours do still exist and for that i truly am greatful! Thanks again and cant wait to come back for another (accident free) camping trip!" Just wanted to pass along to you all that if you are in the area, this CG is top notch, not only for a family environment but the location is great along with all the ammenities. I also wanted to let you all know that even though we have some bad CG experiences over time, these ones are out there. Happy camping to all!!

RE: how long will your fridge run on 20 lbs of propane

If my fridge dies running on propane it is not the propane that was the culprit, the 5vr batteries died due to drain from CO/LP monitor and everything else that sucks juice over a period of days.

RE: Truck drives over camper's tent in ND

Just came out on the news here. Charged with two counts of manslaughter and two counts of wreckless endangerment. Kids had come up to see Dad working in the ND oil patch and were from El Paso. Driver was also charged with DUI and LE said that the driver probably knew the victims as they work together.

Turn signal on solid after install of new 7 prong

Okay, so my 7 prong connector in the bed of my truck broke and I had to replace it. I spent the 8 bucks, got a new one and installed it. However, all the lights work fine with the exception of the right turn signal on the 5vr. It stays on solid, even with my lights of and just plugging it in it comes on. Since it is at "full bright" turn signal does not function, it is like someone is standing on the brake. All of the the other lights to include the TV work just fine. I figured that I may have made a mistake but the test light showed the same results when I tore it apart again. To top it off, (one more test)the factory installed 7 prong on the bumper is doing the same thing now. Any ideas?

Yellowstone but a last minute decision

So we are all of a sudden looking at going to Yellowstone NP from Minot, ND. Problem is that when you decide just now, there are no reservations made, routes planned, etc. We are planning on going the week of 16-22 July. I looked at Fishing Bridge and of course they are full for the week in July that we would like to go. Any ideas for other CG's in the area? Or maybe we need to scratch this plan and go somewhere else. I am also looking for the best route into the area. Please tell me about your past experiences, do's and don'ts and all that. Thanks for your help!!

RE: Brake controllers! Which one is best with Allison trans!

I have only owned two Allison/Duramax combos with the seperate controller but I can tell you that the "downshift" has been my best friend on both and hadn't affected the Tekonsha brake controller on the previous trucks. But now my third has the integrated controller, time to upgrade?! :)

RE: Camping in North Dakota

kpitch, as you get west of Bismarck toward Dickinson on I-94 you will start to see effects of the boom. While Dickinson may be filled up, the campgrounds at the NP's are more stringent on the maximum of nights stayed. You will surely have better luck than one that is privately owned but I would surely call ahead to verify. I haven't stayed at TR NP for a couple of years now and things could have changed.

RE: Camping in North Dakota

I agree with some of the other posters here. I live in Minot and once you get here heading west, RV parks are full and if you do happen to find a site at one you will pay dearly compared to normal rates. As much as I would like your tourism dollars, I too recommend I-94 for a better route. Closest I could get you to the Minot area with a nice price and availability is south about 50 miles at Fort Stevenson SP but that doesn't make much sense. Many of the towns along I-94 have smaller campgrounds and it will be much more enjoyable for you.

RE: camper fire

Sorry for your loss, hope everything works out and you can get back on the road. I too have a the pleasure of the people of Mitchell, SD assisting me, glad it happened there and not in the middle of nowhere. Good luck and please keep us posted.
