RE: Batteries dead...won't start

I apologize for not updating sooner. My husband works 12 hour days and has been working a lot lately. So, he hasn't been able to do anything with the RV for the last week and a half. He bought new chassis batteries and put them in yesterday. It started right up and we took it for a drive for about an hour. We'll keep an eye on these batteries to make sure there is not a problem with them draining. I want to thank everyone who responded to my previous emails about this problem. You are all very appreciated!

RE: Batteries dead...won't start

Have one of the batteries on a charger for the last six hours and needle hasn't budged. It does not appear that the battery is drawing any current from the charger. I'll check it again in the morning. Thanks again everyone! Wayne

RE: Batteries dead...won't start

Okay, back to the drawing board. Not taking the batteries in yet or getting new ones. Going to try charging them with a battery charger first.

RE: Batteries dead...won't start

Okay, no corrosion anywhere. All connections look good. I cleaned off a little road dust. Ground looks intact. Fuse looks okay. So, then I plugged the RV back in, turned the charger on and measured the voltage across the cables that connect to the batteries from positive to negative without the battery in place. I am getting 13.8v across the circuit. So, it appears that the charger is trying to charge the batteries, but they won't take the charge. I have a Freightliner dealer/service 30 miles from home. I am taking the chassis batteries over there to have them load test them. I suspect I'll be buying new ones. Thanks, Wayne

RE: Batteries dead...won't start

Didn't see any corrosion anywhere yet. Still working on looking at everything. The house batteries have between 6.2 and 6.4 each. I pulled the chassis batteries completely and measured them independently. One has 2 and the other has 3. Can the charger even charge them if the voltage is that low? Wayne (Sloan's better half)

RE: Batteries dead...won't start

Thanks everyone. I am not off of work during the day again until tomorrow, so I won't be able to check it out again until then. I will report back when I do.

Batteries dead...won't start

Tried to start the RV after not using it for a while and it won't start. It was connected to shore power (30 amp) the entire time with battery switches on and the charger on. The water level on the house batteries is fine, and the chassis batteries are no maintenance batteries. When attempting to start, it gets momentary current and attempts to start. Then it stops and the entire dash display goes dark. Tried to use auxiliary start (boost) and get power to dash display, but still will not turn over. According to the manual, chassis batteries should be charged by the charger when connected to shore power. I also ran the generator for three hours, but it didn't help. Not sure what to do next. Any ideas?

Will GSRA give a jump to my motorhome?

Our RV batteries are dead. It is at our home, so it's not an emergency. Has anyone ever used GSRA for a jump on a Class A Diesel? Thanks.

RE: My post disappeared

I wasn't trying to sell my RV on here, so I don't know why it was deleted. I didn't link to any of my ads or anything. I was asking a question about determining sales price and also if anyone knew of any websites where I could find actual "sold" prices. Oh well...

My post disappeared

I posted a message earlier today, but I don't see it on the forum. Also, when I look at "My Posts" under my profile, it's not there. I know it was there earlier after I posted it because when I looked it had several views, but no responses. Is it possible for my post to disappear?

Questions about selling our motorhome

Our kids are getting older and are in more activities now. So, we don't use our motorhome as much as we used to. It was a very tough decision, but we are selling our RV. We have it listed at a couple of websites. Do potential buyers usually want to do a test drive? How is payment and the transfer of title usually done? Is it like a car and you just go to a title place? Do you accept a cashier's check? How do you know if it's a good check? Any tips or suggestions on selling our beloved RV? Thanks!
