RE: Propane 20# Tanks Short?

The way portable propane tank refilling is monitored and paid for varies from state to state. In Washington State it is metered just like gas or diesel and sold by the gallon. If you are curious how much is in a exchange tank weight it and compare the weight to one you have refilled. I did and was not happy with what I saw.

RE: Propane 20# Tanks Short?

Francesca,
It may not make sense to you but that is how it works. I have been trading non-OPD tanks for exchange certified ones for years. My guess is because the majority of their outlets are self-serv they have no way to control whether the tank they get back is pre-OPD or not because the transaction is paid for through a teller at Home Depot or some other location and the teller would not be trained to know the difference. If the old one and the refilled one look the same-good enough.

RE: Propane 20# Tanks Short?

When you take the plastic tank cover off with the providers name on it it becomes just another generic tank. Any tank is accepted when exchanging.

RE: Propane 20# Tanks Short?

It makes sense to use the tank swap if you have a old non-opd tank. They take them with no penalty. Otherwise find a place that fills them. Most farm supply stores have refill stations.

Exchange tanks are not full. More profit that way.

RE: Best price on Honda extended run gas tanks

If you buy a plastic fuel tank check that it is certified for use with gas containing Ethanol. Some aren't. I use a 3 gallon outboard motor tank and a fuel tank cap that has 1/8" pipe thread instead of a vent valve I found on E-Bay for my EU 1000i.

RE: Why a 2 way and not a 3 way fridge?

Our first motorhome was a '86 Jubilee 27'. It was 12 years old and had had very little use. It had a 3 way Refer. Someone that saw it asked if the recall had ever been done to it. No idea. Did some checking and no it had not been done. This is a at least 12 year old refer. The RV shop checked on the recall for us and they came back with a DO NOT USE IT. The recall package came and I took it to the shop to have it done. When I got it back the face plate and controls had been changed and it was now a 2 way. We were told the three way was a major fire hazard.

RE: lost a spring on a leveling Jack

You will have problems getting it to retract without both springs. A 2X4 and a fulcrum will pry it back up to the stored position if you have to move.If you have air dump on your suspension let it all the way down and store the jacks. Then air up the suspension and the jack will lift off of the ground so you can get a pry under the foot. The control needs to be in store mode while you pry the jack up. When you get it all the way up you should remove the foot as it takes both springs to hold it secure. Its a good idea to replace the springs in pairs.

RE: States that require by law, braking system for towing?

You cannot count on the politicians and regulators to catch all the needed exemptions when they write new regulations.
A typical regulatory screw up just happened in New York State. They passed a law that hand guns could not have more than 7 bullets. Most all LEO carry Glocks that hold 15. No exemption was provided for LEO. Now they have to fix it(-:

RE: States that require by law, braking system for towing?

mowermech,
You need to rethink your statement that a trailer is not meant to carry passengers. I rode many a mile in California in a passenger trailer while in the USMC. They were used to move personel from base to base. They were fifth wheel trailers pulled by one ton Ford chassis. They had lots of them. The trailers were built like a bus.

RE: States that require by law, braking system for towing?

There is a big difference legally between the word "Should" and the word "Must". Should is a suggestion. Must is a requirement.
That pictured tow truck is a dandy. Unfortunately that is not what you always see towing big vehicles. I think its more common to see a small one ton chassis tow truck towing a big truck with its front wheels barely touching the road. I see that all too often. I would not be surprised if the tow truck industry is not the reason there are different brake requirements for towing motor vehicles than there are for trailers. If brakes were required for towed motor vehicles the use of tow trucks would seem to be illegal.
Back to the OP. He never defined whether he was talking about a trailer or a toad and in all the following posts noone asked. What IS the question?

RE: Coprdless Drill For Stab Jacks

I have a lot of 18v Ryobi tools and their 3 speed 1/2" drill with a Ni-Cad battery would work fine for that job. The Li-Po batteries are much more expensive and intended for extended use between charges. Not really needed for the jacks. Home Depot sells Ryobi. Most RV parts stores have a socket made for the jacks and a drill.

RE: States that require by law, braking system for towing?

There is nothing on the internet that has a ACCURATE listing. Also towing is defined differently for towing a vehicle on its tires than towing a trailer. The trailer rules DO NOT apply to towed motorvehicles.

RE: second battery on jumper cables

Cliff,
Just to clarify with your portable generator you can plug your shore power cord into it and if you have a portable charger you can plug it into the generator also. They can both be charging your house battery. If you have a extra battery a set of jumper cables from it to the house battery will charge both.

RE: second battery on jumper cables

Cliff,
There is nothing wrong with charging a battery bank with more than one charging source. Its done all the time. Example-Driving down the road on a hot day we will run the Onan QD 7500 generator built into the coach to run the two roof air conditioners. When it is running it powers all the 120v circuits in the coach including the 100a Magnum Energy converter/inverter. The coach engine is running so the 160a alternator is also putting power into the house battery bank as well as the chassis batteries. While those two are charging the house batteries the 800w of solar on the roof are also contributing to the overall house battery bank charge. Thats three at the same time. Many others without really thinking about it do the same thing.
