RE: Think dropping your f'ver is bad...

No bed saver? :W Must have been a Reese! ;);):R for those that blame a reese hitch obviously dont know how to properly hitch up, even a famed B&W isnt idiot proof!

RE: Disgusted with KZ quality

the breaker panel in my rv listed 4 different breakers that could be used in the panel, so it does not concern me if a inspector was to look at my panel in the slim chance my camper burned down, more campers have burned to the ground from improperly matching breaker size with wire size than using a breaker that was not compatible, take a square d, siemens or any of these breakers and put them side by side and tell me the differences, the only important piece on them is where the breaker attaches to the buss bar, and that the opposite side is anchored in the panel, most are exactly the same, and frankly if i have an electrical fire my insurance gonna cover it regardless what breakers i have in the panel!

RE: air bags or springs

i had firestone ride-rites on previous pickup and really liked them, just scored a brand new set on e-bay today for $100 with shipping, made for a 1500hd silverado, they wont be bolting on my 2500hd, i can build the brackets stronger than the ones they send and will have less than $150 them and a little time!

RE: Mods and Spring Cleaning 2013

we were fortunate last year we had several 80-90 degree weekends in early march here in Kansas, i can only hope we have the same thing this coming year, as i type it is 15 degrees out and really depressing! thankfully i am able to pull the fiver in the driveway for the winter, keeps me sane!So far winter projects have been converting all the inside lighting to LED's, now just have to work on the outside, did get the camper converted to 50 amp service and have a 50 amp service on the side of garage so we spend some nights in the camper with electric heat, thats about as much winter camping as i do!

RE: Disgusted with KZ quality

my local Ace hardware keeps the double 15 and 20 space saver square d breakers on hand, might try a different place!

RE: Disgusted with KZ quality

thought i would mention that most breaker panels in an rv can use square D or cutler-hammer breakers, it may not state that on the breaker panel, but they can be used instead of trying to find the siemens breakers or whatever it may have in it!

RE: Yes I did it tonight! Dropped the fiver!

Threads like this scare me away from fivers. I would like to have one but geeze, that drop would total my 99 from an insurance perspective. Op, I'm sorry this happened to you. Lesson learned? Get a B&W hitch use the eyes God gave you and you won't ever have a problem! use your eyes with a reese or any other hitch you wont ever have a problem...

RE: Air bag air pressure.

No one mentioned to the OP that dropping the air before unhooking might save an embarassing moment. The truck will come up a long way with those higher presures if your suspension is on the soft side. Just my observation. i have always left the air in the bags while hooking up and un-hooking, normally around 30psi, and pickup doesnt raise very much at all!

maxxis tires

i know this subject been beat to death, looking to replace tires on my #10,000 fiver, it currently has 15" ST tires on it, should i go with the maxxis tires or step up to 16" rims and lt tires, would like to keep 15" rims but....dont want issues going down the road!

RE: What do you like about your RV?

well i love taking the kids camping and they absolutely love the bunkhouse model i bought, other than that its nice being able to hook up anytime i have a few days off and heading to the lake with the wife and kids and all the comforts of home...is there anything better?? besides full timing, which i still dream about, and hopefully someday!!

RE: Seven pin plug in bed.

i put my connector in front of the wheel well, easier to get too versus behind it, although i often have a huge cooler that gets hauled between hitch and cab, i have to strap it down so it dont slide over and smash the connector, probably 150# and im pretty sure it would bust it!i also connect the brake away cable to one of the holes in the hitch that is used for hitch height adjustment!

RE: Has anyone's fifth wheel come unhitched when driving?

High hitched. Pin was wedged between the jaws and plate finally came loose. Pull tests dont work. Looking to see the hitch jaws are wraped around the pin does work. Best way to avoid high hitching is to use the hitch to lift the pin 1" to 2"!!i totally agree, an inch or two may be too much according to some posters on here but i always make sure that when i am hitching up it picks the front of the camper up a slight amount, i get out and make sure the jaws are wrapped around the pin as well and then do a pull test, overkill? maybe, but have never had a camper come unhitched!

RE: 1/2 ton 5th wheel

1/2 tons will pull a fifth wheel just fine as long as you dont go overboard on the size of the camper,i pulled a #10,000 fifth wheel all summer with a 1500hd crew cab chevrolet, the pickup handled it fine, was just lacking in the power department, although the 1500hd's are basically the same as the 2500 non-hd's!

RE: Power Converter Success

i havent had much luck with WFCO converters either, i have replaced several with the pd converters and never a problem since, one thing i always do is take my trusty old cheap battery charger with me camping, if nothing else to charge a pickup battery that got a light left on, or to keep a failed converter from spoiling a fun weekend of camping!! ya never know!

RE: Burned 30 Amp Power Cord

i lot of the problems we have are due to the campsite pedestal female plug, these things wear out over the summer, especially with a lot of people camping in that spot, they just dont grip the male plug very well at all and as a result it creates resistance which creates heat and presto it ruins your perfectly good end on your chord, have seen some campsites that replace their pedestal outlets on a regular basis and some that hardly ever do, i carry an extra female with me, and have on more than one occasion changed the pedestal outlet, not that i recommend that that under any circumstance... :-)Hopefully with the park's permission. If someone was taking apart one of our pedestals, it would be a quick ticket out of the park. It actually happened this year. Got a call from a guest saying the pedestal cover was off on the pedestal next to them and laying (lying?) on the ground. Went up and sure enough there was the open body of the pedestal with the primary feeder lines sitting exposed for any 4 year old to grab hold of and electrocute themselves. Got hold of the guy in the site on the phone and he said "Oh yea, I took the cover off." He wanted to see how it was wired so he could install one at home and just forgot to put the cover back on. Sent him on down the road that day, just cannot have that kind of irresponsibility. His "forgetfulness" could have cost me my life's savings. A kid gets killed in that situation, there isn't enough liability insurance in the world to cover us. Leave the pedestals alone. Well said: Use common sense and leave it alone yes the park owner was asked and did know about it, i am friends with the guy and from some of the electrical work he has had done by certified electricians, he would much rather i do it all the time for him....I am not an idiot that would leave a pedestal open for a child or anybody to get into!!Just to let you know, in many states it is against the law for a commercial business to have electrical work done by anyone other than a Master electrician. It may be easy, simple, a no brainer, something anyone can do, etc. but if there is a problem, and it causes injury, not only can and will the park ownership face civil liability, they could even face criminal prosecution.not trying to start an argument here, i told him about it, he let me do it, enough said, but if an outlet needs changed, talk to the park owner or whomever is managing it and see about getting it replaced, lot cheaper than replacing the ends on our shore power chords, and i am a firm believer the molded ends that come standard on most good chords are far superior to the replacement ends you buy that have the screw connections!!

RE: Very Warm Electricla Cord

on my camper i ran a dedicated line to a 20 amp outlet just to run the 1500 watt heater off of, i agree factory outlets are junk and i dont trust them using the high settings on an electric heater, 900 watt setting dont seem to heat them up too much, but thats all i will do, its too bad it would only cost less than $50 to update all outlets in a camper to good quiality household outlets at the factory....

RE: AIR BAG QUESTIONS

you can buy just the replacement air bellows, but last time i priced them it wasnt much more buying the whole kit, i was gonna build my own mounting brackets, but not worth the hassle!
