RE: Why does my awning stay wet??

Thanks guys, we have some very creative people on here.
I will try both the wet it and forget it and 2 liter bottle trick!
BTW, mine does roll under - amazing it still gets water in there.
Thanks,
Jack

Why does my awning stay wet??

Noticed this last summer and forgot about it. Opened the awning the other week while getting the camper ready for the first outing of the year and the awning was covered in mold/mildew and still wet (I guess from winter rain). Cleaned it up, let it dry and retracted it.
The other day - two days after a rain shower - I opened it to check and sure enough it was soaked.
Does not seem like I would have to dry this thing out after every rain shower - what gives?
Thanks!

RE: Toyota Tundra Tow Vehicle Owners Request

No issues with braking or power with the 5.7. Mileage could always be better. I get 15-16 unloaded around town and 9-10 towing.
Up the payload and I am a happy camper!
Jeff, do you have any pictures you would like to share?
Tim, not the most exotic of pics, but my beloved combo.
This is my second Tundra and seventh Toyota. If Toyota can up payload 1,000 lbs I will be standing in line to order a new one tomorrow.

RE: Toyota Tundra Tow Vehicle Owners Request

Thanks for your interest! I have a 2010 DC with 4x4 and the 5.7. I currently tow a trailer with a dry weight of 5,500 and a tounge weight of 900lbs (be design, it is a rear slide). This truck has all the engine and braking required to pull this (or even heavier) trailers, but I am sorely lacking in payload. I have not done any mods as yet, but plan on getting E rated tires this summer. Currently using a 1K Equalizer WDH.
Not sure I would want a diesel for the 8 times or so a year I tow, but 3/4 ton capacity (or a haul/tow package like is available from Ford) would be a game changer. I am considering switching to a half ton Ford with the haul/tow package just to get my payload capacity up.
Thanks,
Jack

RE: I can't believe we bought a TT!

Congrats on the Microlite! We looked at that unit off and on for six months and finally decided on a slightly larger unit, but it was second on our list. We have been extremely please with our Forest River unit. DO NOT purchase a warranty from the dealer, Forest River offers a full second year warranty directly to the customer for $150, but you must mail in the form and payment within 10 days of purchase.
Also, for the few $$ it costs, I would have the dealer go ahead and install the Maxis air vents now so you don't have to fool with it later.

RE: 4x4 or 4x2

I am of the opinion of I would rather have it and not need it than not have it. We park our TT in the back yard, and I have to come up a short but somewhat steep slope to hit the driveway. Without 4x4 I would tear my yard to pieces and possible slide the TT into the fence/gate. Small measue of security for me.

You are most definately able to reserve your own site. I will tell you about 20% of the sites are seasonal.

RE: Bald Mountain Campground Hiawassee Ga

Bears Den, we like sites 47-52, your camper will back up to a small (but loud) creek and you will be across from a very, very well maintained bathhouse if you don't wish to use your campers facilities. They have a pretty good map on their web site.

RE: Bald Mountain Campground Hiawassee Ga

cairpd,
We love Bald Mtn - we have been there three times this year and were there Oct. 3 -7th on site 52. This is one of our favorite places to camp an Hiawassee is a nice laid back down.
I will say this was the most crowded I have ever seen it!!! I think the secret is out!

Jack

Living in GA, when to winterize?

Obviously before we get any hard freezes, but when do most people in these types of climates winterize? We are considering a Thanksgiving trip and not sure if I should do/before or after or just wait.
Thanks!

Bennets for sure if you like Que! Also No Way Jose in PF was very good - right beside the Harley shop where 321 intersects 441.

RE: real life experience with adjustable Wheel Chocks

X2 on BAL "X", very easy to install lock down and store. Since they are not on the ground they do not get nasty. On a recent trip we had to park on a slope, after I hooked up the truck to leave I loosened the BAL X and the trailer and truck rolled back a couple of inches - it has some holding power!!

RE: Showerhead holder loose...

Thanks all for the suggestions. Unfortunately my shower is a corner (hex) variety and the spot on the wall is opposite the kitchen wall - not sure if I can get a wood back or mollybolt in there. I tried some adheasive on the mount and in the screw holes. I also will travel with my showerhead on the floor from now on!
If this does not work, I may have to try a cut down butterfly bolt.
Thanks!!

RE: Best way thru the smoky mtns - from Knoxville to Atlanta?

Yes, thats the one, its stays 411 right to I75, two lane and four lane in various places, speed limit of 55 with lanes for others to pass you if needed. Drove it Sunday, pretty drive. Looks like you could pick it up going 95 south our of Lenoir, but I would ask a local about that road.
If you want to call McKinney to see if they have a spot and could accomodate your length of rig, the number is (678) 721-6700
I am sure there are other CG's in the area, just none that I have stayed at and can recommend.
Thanks,
Jack

RE: Best way thru the smoky mtns - from Knoxville to Atlanta?

Also depends on which side of Atlanta you want to end up on. From Knoxville you could come 411 south out of Maryville (which kind of runs along I75 south). And follow it to Cartersville. If you end up on that side you may want to try McKinney CG - it is a COE CG and very nice (exit 278).

Showerhead holder loose...

We have just returned from our fifth trip with our new new TT. When cleaning the shower we noticed that the holder for the showerhead was loose (screws had backed out, apparently from road vibration).
No worries, I grabbed a driver and nothing - it appears the screws do not go into anything (studs, etc.) and I can not tighten them down.
Any concerns about just putting silicon on the back of the holder and adhering it to the wall??
Trail is in sig line if needed.
Thanks,
Jack

RE: Well we did it, bought our travel trailer

I agree with everything said abvove. I would add calling your dealer and asking if you get a starter kit and what is in it. Our dealer provided the white water house, pressure reducer, RV TP, cheap short piece of sewer hose. Post PDI our tech walked us over to the parts dept. and gave us some insight on stuff we might need (screens for hot water opening, frig openings, etc. to keep bugs/daubers out), some high priced piece of plastic block to pull up on if you need to change a tire, fittings for the septic, etc. Of course I bought it all :)
If going straight to camp I would take a tool set so you can tinker that weekend. We had to tighten some screws, install the waterfilter, fix a leaky drain under the bathroom sink, adjust the strike plate on the door, etc. Would recommend good choks (I love the bal-x), some pieces of 2x8 or the orange plastic squares for leveling, a chunk of wood for under the tounge jack. Maybe you can camp near a WalMart? Most around here have RV accessories you will need - the wants you can easily find online. Take a pad of paper and pen, you can make lists of what you think you need, keep track of the sites you do/don't like at CGs, keep track of mileage for maintenance etc.
Most importantly, take some patience and enjoy yourself. Every time we go out it gets easier and more relaxing. The first few trips were somewhat tense trying to remember everything to do and figure out what we needed. We have put probably a couple of hundred dollars of stuff back in the basement that we found we did not need to camp.
Good luck with your camper, love that floorplan and your Tundra will be fine.

Benefits of fifth wheel hitch vs. gooseneck?

Trying to understand why fifth wheel trailers come with the hitch system they have vs. a gooseneck trailer that would only require a ball in the bed of the TV. I get all the benefits of pulling a fiver, just think dealing with the hitch in the bed would be a hassle?
Also, when shopping for a fiver, how do you know to match the hight of the trailer hitch to your particular truck?
Thanks,
Jack
