RE: The ideal campground..

Would be on a cliff with a fantastic ocean view and only a few steps from each rv site to the beach. ....:h
I'd be a little careful of being "on a cliff with an ocean view with only a few steps to the beach"...that first step might be a little rough :B

RE: Getting ready to buy a used Jayco 31FS

The ONLY safe way to do this is to go with them to the lienholder and see that they personally pay off the note and then have the title put in your name. If the lienholder is somewhere far away that may not be practical or even possible. Even if the sellers are honest people this is a risky proposition at best. As others have said the lienholder will NOT release the title until the note is paid in full.
X2... This is the only way I'd do it. Just too many risks otherwise. If its not possible to do the face to face payoff with the lienholder and a notary to do the transfer all at the same time...I'd walk away and look for another one. There are plenty of them out there...

RE: I 81 closed both directions near Harrisburg PA

They have opened some ramps that were closed and you can get on the turnpike at several places toll free. Traffic is a real mess and backed up everywhere with folks looking for alternate routes. We are going to use Rt 15 to get to Hershey.
Can you go 83 to 581 and get around the problem ??
Yes, you can but.....you'll still see slow or stopped traffic and delays at certain times of the day.

RE: Xbox live?

I have Verizon 4G and it works great. But, with the 5GB limit online gaming, movies etc are not feasible.
Also, for those switching from 3G to 4G, keep an eye on your data usage ....While I don't believe that the 4G technology inherently uses more data, I found I tend to use more simply because it's faster and I can get to many more places in the same amount of time...less waiting :)

I realize this does not really answer your question but....they do have really nice bathrooms/showers there....or at least they did the last time I was there... but depends if you want to use them or would prefer not to...

RE: A problem I never knew existed.

While it was not posted on RVparkreviews, I was in a park office once and a lady was loudly complaining because she had forgotten to pack underwear and the camp store didn't have any to sell her. Apparently underwear is not a commonly requested item at campground stores...who would have thought :)
The girl at the desk was being very professional (how she kept from laughing, I'll never know!) and trying to help, but nothing would calm this women down. An offer was even made to give her a ride to a nearby Walmart to purchase the missing undergarments but she was not satisfied and demanded a refund.....the girl gave her the refund. I think I would have paid that women to leave!!!

RE: ghost in generator

I will ask the obvious question: I assume that you don't have an auto-start on your generator if your house batteries get below a certain level?
Other than that, no clue!

RE: Should you travel with a full tank of Gas?

Let me know what you think about traveling with a full tank of gas. Does it course you Miles per gal. to go down or is the unit designed and the MPG that is listed for that unit allow for a full tank of gas.
I like travelling with a full tank of gas...it gets me much farther than travelling with an empty tank of gas :)
But, seriously, no, it won't impact your MPG...at least not enough that you'd be able to measure it....

RE: flame on stovetop burner slow to go out

I must not be using the right search words as I couldn't find any previous topics.
When I turn off one of the 3 burners on top of my stove the flame doesn't go out instantly like the other 2 burtner do. this one has a very tiny weak flame that lasts for about 2-3 seconds before it goes out. I can't smell any lp odor from the unlit buner. And with advice you all, I tested my LP detector and it works fine.
What should i look for to find out the problem or fix it?
I think that is pretty normal. The only way I'd be concerned is if there was still gas (even a little) coming out once the flame went out. That may indicate a tiny leak in the valve at the control knob.

RE: My New To Me RV and Questions

FWIW, a couple of years ago, I sent an email to Gulfstream and they sent me a PDF file of the manual for a 1996 model.
I am not sure if that is still an option or not since things have changed at Gulfstream over the past 4-5 years. When I got the manual they were still selling new coaches...from what I hear they are not any longer so I don't know if you can still reach them or not.

RE: 1995 Gulf stream

I know Gulfstream and problems are often uttered in the same breath...but...we had a 1996 29' and had a good experience.
We bought it in 2008 with 45,000 miles. Put about $3,000 in new tires, brakes, shocks, and a number of other things that were more "just in case" than absolutely necessary. Over the next two years, we ran it 20,000 miles all over the USA with nothing other than oil changes. The only problem we ever had was a leaking valve stem...so some of them are ok...

RE: Converting $/liter to $/gallon

I look at the US Price, say around 3.83 a gallon. Well a US gallon is 3.83 litres so that is also exactly one dollar a litre.
In Canada, you pay by the litre, so when you see the price up here at 1.40 you are paying 40% more for the samee amount.
I find it best to just not think about it....now maybe if it's $1.50/l at one town and $1.30/l at the next I'll go to the next town but it's pretty unlikely I can run back to the US when I'm on a 1/4 tank so fill er up :B

RE: Salmon exchange

I know the title sounds a little strange but I remember in the past reading about places where you can go and fish for salmon on a charter and then when you come back you can exchange the salmon that you caught for canned salmon for an additional charge.
I don't have enough refer space to bring a bunch of frozen salmon back with us and I have no one I can ship it to in the states plus it is very expensive to fly it.
I would also love to go Halibut fishing but I just don't know how I would handle that much halibut at one time :(
So does anyone know of such a place today.
Just a thought...but would it really pay to bring it back canned anyway? I.e, would this be any different than what you can buy at home in the store? I always considered the value of bringing home salmon from Alaska that it was fresh or fresh-frozen. If it's canned, is there any real point to bringing it home with you? Not trying to degrade your idea...just curious...Of course, in the interest of full disclosure, I will also say that I love fresh, grilled salmon but can't stand it canned :)

RE: Rv financing

Why would I want to pay cash for a trailer when the money is already in the bank and drawing a quite sizable interest rate? I leave my money alone in the bank to work for me, which is what I thought most everyone did!
WoodGlue
I sure wish my money in the bank was earning a "quite sizable interest rate" these days! I do have one savings account that is earning a whopping 1.5% these days :)

RE: Fresh Water Fill

Thanks to all. Having never owned a RV before I was just curious. I do not know how much 300 extra lbs of water (36 gal tank)will affect the milage, if at all. I do know that carrying extra weight can/could/will affect milage. I'll just have to find out how much. As for being careful about where I'm filling, that's a given. the RV comes with built in water filter and additionally I will use a portable filter attached to source whenever I use the hose.
I suggest always travelling with the fresh water tank full UNLESS, by doing so, it will make your rig significantly overweight. There are so many times where that water can be handy. As they say, better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it!
As for the impact on mileage...not an issue. You'll never be able to measure the MPG accurately enough to discern the difference with a 36 gallon tank of water empty or full. There are a hundred other variable that will impact your MPG far more. Fill it up and enjoy :)

RE: Generator Function

Generators tend to fail because of being run with a load on them for too little as opposed to too often. In fact, a failure due to "being run to long" is something fairly rare. I'm sure it happens, but damage from corroded windings and a fouled carb is usually more costly than the wear and tear from thousands of hours of use.
Assuming proper oil, oil filter, and air filter changes, as well as assuming that the noise isn't disturbing anyone, I wouldn't hesitate to fire the thing up and keep it on.
Gasoline use for the Onan is dependent on model. A 4000 watt model is about half a gallon an hour at half load, .7 gallons/hour at full load.
As for running while it is on the road; go ahead. Just make sure to shut it off when getting gas.
Do they make generators anymore that run on propane instead of gasoline? My last motor home, years ago, had a generator that ran on propane. Had a lot of problems with it which may or may not have been caused by being propane fired.
They are a few still around, often on the smaller Diesel-powered (ie Sprinter) class Cs.
They typically work very well. Some would say they are less problematic due to the cleaner burn. The issue is that you typically have a smaller amount of fuel available than with a gas/diesel generator.

RE: Generator Function

A inverter changes 12 volt dc power stored in your batteries into 120 volt ac to operate things like your tv and dvd player that dont run on 12 volt.
Can an inverter ever run a motor home AC?
Technically, yes. But, from a practical standpoint, No. It would require a giant battery bank that would be too large to be practical for the average motorhome.

RE: First trip done.

Also, on average with normal use, occasionally using heater. How long should a 30 gallon propane tank last? We only camped two days and used the heater only one night. When I took the tanks off after storing my trailer, I noticed the tank we used was still pretty full...
Unless you use the furnace a lot, the propane will last longer than you expect. I am always surprised how little we use.
One question though...are you sure that tank is 30 gallons, and not 30 pounds? Or was that just a typo? There is a considerable difference between the two that will throw off your estimates "a lot" when considering how long the tank will last..

RE: Harrisburg PA north across I-78 Thru NJ

First question is how bad are the delays on I-81 from Harrisburg, PA to the NYS border? .
I don't think that the construction on I-81 is much of an issue, esp this time of year. A few spots but I sailed thru recently without slowing below 55.

RE: Leaving Progressive, good bye Flo!!

Did your credit take a hit in the divorce? I find it hard to believe becoming single over 60 would cause an increase in rates.
I was thinking the same thing. Being single generally (at least in my experience) DOES impact vehicle insurance rates but in most cases that goes away at about age 25.
