RE: Television shows to DVD

Even easier: buy them. Lots of shows are on DVD now.

RE: Erasing DVD

leaddog is the one with the correct answer. I'd add that there ARE some form of rewritable optical media, designated by the "-RW" initials. I have yet to encounter rewritable Dual Layer (DL) DVDs

RE: Why do we still own Motorhomes

I'd suggest that the high number of complaints you see here is due to the fact that trouble-shooting is one of the primary uses of this site. People won't typically post "Hi there, nothing happened today." Just a thought. :)

RE: HD TV or monitor?

A MONITOR has no television tuner in it and can be used with your computer. To watch television it has to have a receiver whether it is receiving the signal over satellite or the antennae. Sorry, but that is not accurate. If the source (external tuner, DVR, DVD player, whatever) can display on that monitor, then one would be all set.In fact, in your example, an outboard tuner for the satellite is *required.* The only thing the TV tuner does in that case is allow one to use the RF output of the satellite box if you chose to go that route. But it is not required. And, this is what the OP was asking. I'd concur with pervious suggestions that the potential costs saving of a monitor sans tuner are probably not worth the chase. I just slapped a nice 20" LCD TV in place of my original 19" CRT for <$200.

RE: Recommended smart charger/converters?

Im replacing a parallax 7455 and have decided on the XADC. Should i get the 40 or 60? Are there any negatives to going bigger? Do not go less than what you currently have.

There's a gaggle of used ones here, too. :)

RE: Shocking Experience......literally

The correct answer is that the RV is not connected correctly to an earth ground. A totally squeaky-clean (electric wise) RV will become 'hot' when connected to shore power without an earth ground. This is due to capacitive coupling in the wiring, and most power converters that sink a few milliamps from the AC wiring to the safety ground. There could be a fault somewhere in the rig's wiring, but you don't know that without further testing. The easiest was to test for electrical leakage is to plug the rig into a GFCI protected outlet and see whether it trips or not. The normal leakage I mentioned earlier is below the trip threshold of the GFCI. Correct answer above ^ Thread over. :D :D

RE: outlet not working but breaker isn't tripped

In my last HOUSE, the garage door was dangling off the end of a circuit that was GFCI protected from a bathroom upstairs and in the other side of the house.

RE: Shocking Experience......literally

I'm all for the safety ground wire, but it seems to me there is still something wrong if you get a shock without it. The safety ground is EXTRA protection when you have something broken, like the electric drill has the hot wire touching the metal housing. If all is well in the MH, you should not get a shock even when the safety ground is disconnected...Note whether it is the black wire (small prong) or the white one (larger prong). With the power still disconnected, you can watch this ohmmeter reading while you do stuff. It could be something plugged into an outlet in the motorhome that has a partial short to the safety ground, so try unplugging things...It should be fixed before it gets worse. Counting on the safety ground is a little risky because sometimes the outlet you plug into may not have one...I'm not an electrician, but I believe you will find that the 120V white wires in the RV are all connected to a bus bar that is attached to the frame of the RV. That is exactly how the 120V white wires in the house are attached to a bus bar - that is directly to ground. If you do not have a 3rd conductor forcing you to plug in the correct way, the electricity will reverse flow through your wires. Electricity will take the route of least resistance, through the wires or through your body if you are grounding the RV. Gene, it sounds as if you are suggesting a polarity problem. Are you? Please say no. ;)

RE: Recommended smart charger/converters?

I just did the PD9260 with Charge Wizzard pendant in my rig.

RE: Shocking Experience......literally

I recently had this exact same experience. Nutshell: It's (probably) the ground. Lack of ground causes the naturally-occurring inductance in your rig to have nowhere to go until your flesh comes along to shed the load. This tester plug Kamphiker suggests area great place to start. A short would have zapped you much harder than that, if it hadn't tripped a GCFI first. Listen to your wife. ;)

RE: Leaving shore power connected?

This topic has been visited at least 30+times here, so there are probably some great posts already on the topic as a result of your search. In a nutshell, it's probably not a bad idea *IF* you have a good, 3-stage convert/charger section.

Hi. I'm here to join your support group. My name is jorn. I don't want to give up on my gauges, either, but I feel that I probably have to. Can I have a hug? Thanks. I feel halfway normal again. :)

RE: Note to campground owners...wifi

WeternRV: I wouldn't bother on this one any further because Karead clearly has no comprehension whats involved with setting up and maintaining a network like this. Thinking that setting up satellite system clears up your bandwidth issues makes that fact clear enough to me. Since they also seem to think they have the right to stream anything they want at any time, perhaps you should install a DS3 on the property. Lets see, wouldn't that bring site rental up somewhere around $300-$700/day? BTW: Great post. I was just about to type the same thing, SCVJeff. Thank you.

RE: Cigarette Butts

I scanned this entire thread waiting for somebody who smokes, and throws their butts everywhere and anywhere, to come in and tell us how wrong we all are and to defend their position. So far, nothing. C'mon, there are millions of you out there; I see you every day. Why do you do it? Why is it okay? We're all dying to know. :) (I hope it's something about your "rights." I love that argument!)

RE: Additional A/C unit?

You might also want to try to keep the heat out by closing of a few key windows with the reflective insulation you can find at the hardware store. We find this to be VERY effective.

RE: Freon?

If we're suree we're talking about the chassis/dash air here, you can get a R-134a conversion kit from the likes of Walmart and convert it over yourself by reading the instructions.

RE: Is this to good to be true?

Don't put too much stock in what you find on snopes.com, see link below. http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/is_snopescom_run_by_very_democratic_proprietors.html I got a little bored about 1/3 of the way into that diatribe. I tought everybody knew that snopes was just one couple doing the basic research. bumpy OMG, it's people! :D

RE: Is this to good to be true?

These scammers often lift text from legit ads, purporting to be the orginal seller. Here's what appears to be the same trailer on Philly's CL. I'm puzzled by the Lincoln bible passage at the bottom.
