I use a Battery Tender Plus and it maintains both of my start batteries just fine during our seasonal stay. I use the clamps, which work just fine.

Cummins makes several engine models, however, manufacturers usually use one specific engine with a possible upgrade in a given model. Most coach manufacturers have an archive section on their web sites where you can get information about the model you are considering, or call the specific manufacturer with the coach number and they can give you the information. They can also fax you the build sheet.

I agree with Dodge guy, if you get through Chicago then the next day would be much easier. The Wisconsin State Fairgrounds in Milwaukee has an RV park that has 70 full hookup sites and some electric only. Nothing fancy but good for an overnight stay.

If you are using the small brass regulator, get rid of it and go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a Watts Whole House adjustable regulator. You should have no problems running 50-60 lbs. water pressure without any damage to your water system. I have mine set at 55 lbs. and haven't had any issues in 7 years. Also, clean your faucet screens every few months.

One of the benefits of a wet sleeve engine is the ability to do in-frame rebuilds. I see in-frame rebuild kits listed online for around $2,500-$3,000, parts only. Labor would push the cost up considerably if performed by a diesel mechanic. If you feel you have the mechanical ability you may be correct in your risk assesment. Other than tools of sufficient size you will need to be familiar with removing the sleeves and installing the replacements.
I'm not suprised Cummins would not provide you with any failure information. I'm sure they keep this type of information, close to the vest, for liability reasons.

For future reference, make sure the dealer gives you the engine serial number. You can go to the Cummins web site and get all the build information.

The Texan is correct. My engine serial number is well outside the serial number range and has a build date of Aug. 9, 2005 and a warranty start date of Dec. 1, 2007.

If you are using a Supplemtal Braking System like a Brake Buddy they will draw down the battery over time. I use the Roadmaster Even Brake and without a Toad Charge the battery will go dead if towed more than 6-7 hours.

Here is some information on the recall.
"There was a recall on the Cummins ISL engines built from Oct.05 to Apr.06 for a wrist pin issue. There engines could have premature connecting rod failure. Cummins installed a new valve cover with a crankcase pressure sensor that signals the Stop Engine light if the pressure is excessive. Serial number range is 46543077 to 46603939. These engines are spread across many coach builders so there is a slight chance you may run across one". Personally, my 400 ISL has been a great strong performing engine but is outside the above serial number range.

On my coach the grey knob is actually a cover for the Cummins technician where he plugs in his laptop to diagnose the engine. Not sure what the switch is for.

Do these regs apply to commercial only?
Class D or what ever your state calls it usually only applies to commercial endorsements. Not private Not For Hire vehicles.
All of the Illinois DL classifications (A,B,C,D) have NOTHING to do with CDL's. CDL's are a completely seperate license class and have nothing to do with this issue.
In the state of Illinois a CLASS D license is what everyone driving an automobile has unless they have a special license classification or endorsement, such as a motorcycle.
I guess I was lucky when I purchased my first MH and the dealer told me that a different class of DL would be required. When I took delivery I drove to the DMV and took the written and road test and had my license upgraded. Over the years, each time I have moved up in weight class I upgraded my license as required.
I'm sure there are dealers that will tell you no special license is required, or anything else you want to hear to get the sale.

You are full of baloney up to your eyebrows.
You should check your facts before you make such rude statements.
The State of Illinois DOES require special drivers licenses based upon weight of vehicle and towed vehicle to be legal.
CLASS D - is the standared license issued to most drivers. It allows you to operate a motor vehicle not exceeding 16,000 lbs.
CLASS C - allows you to operate a motor vehicle weighing between 16,000 and 26,000 lbs. or that tow trailers weighing over 10,000 lbs.
CLASS B - allows you to operate a vehicle weighing more than 26,000 lbs. and tow another not in excess of 10,000 lbs.
CLASS A - allows you to operate a vehicle weighing more than 26,000 lbs. and tow weight of more than 10,000 lbs.
Although many of the rules for these licenses are taken from the CDL manual they are NOT Commercial Licenses.
As to the OP's other statement about insurance being cancelled, I'm not an insurance company or agent so I cannot comment on that statement.

We moved from Portland Oregon to Phoenix and arrived on July 4th. It certainly was a BIG adjustment. Don't count on all dry heat. Monsoon season can get very intense and humid.

We usually leave the Phoenix area the end of March or the first week of April. By then our park is fairly emtpy. If you expand your search a bit you will find a larger selection of parks. There are many to choose from in the Mesa, Apache Junction and Gold Canyon area that will provide the facilities you are looking for. The West side has a number of nice parks as well.
As for the weather, it can be very hot by the end of May.

SUMMARY:
TIFFIN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010 THROUGH 2012 ALLEGRO MOTORHOMES BUILT ON FORD F-53 AND F-59 STRIPPED CHASSIS. THE GEAR SHIFT CABLE MAY BREAK AT THE ATTACHMENT TO THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SELECTOR ARM ASSEMBLY MOUNTED ON THE STEERING COLUMN. IF THE CABLE BREAKS, THE TRANSMISSION GEAR INDICATOR IN THE GEAR SHIFT DISPLAY IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL REMAIN IN THE FIRST GEAR POSITION REGARDLESS OF THE GEAR SELECTED.?
CONSEQUENCE:
AN INCORRECT GEAR INDICATION IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL MAY PREVENT THE DRIVER FROM KNOWING IF THEY ARE IN PARK OR REVERSE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

RE: Puzzling water pressure problem
Check the fresh water tank fill valve and make sure it is turned to coach side not fill side. Also, if you have an on-board water filter take the filter out and see if it makes any difference. Make sure your faucet screens are clean and the water heater bypass is turned off of bypass. There is also a check valve on the city water hose connection that may be malfunctioning. How is the pressure when running off the water pump, does the tank fill ok or slowly?
