RE: 2008 Monaco Knight Sewer Line

Chuck; I found a good place to store our extra sewer hose in the propane tank compartment. I had some old plastic rain gutter and cut to length to fit along side the tank on each side and store our extra hose in it. The plastic gutter acts as a nice tray to hold it.

RE: Follow up question - battery tender

Google "tric-l-start" and read about it. I installed one as well as many other MH owners and the battery issue has been resolved. They're around $50, small, easy to install, maintenance free and do not require any 120 volt AC to work.

RE: Inverter overvoltage

Bigdog; The inverter you have puts out a modified sine verses a pure sine wave. When you checked the outlets when on shore power and it was Ok that's because the public utilities is pure sine wave. The meter you used did not read true "RMS" voltage. The inverter was actually putting out 120 volts but the meter wasn't able to correctly read it. To read the voltage from a modified sine wave inverter you will need a different meter that will read true "RMS". There isn't anything wrong with you inverter.

On edit; Hiking hunter beat me in posting by 3 minutes and is correct about using for the heating pad and almost everything else only with the exception of some very sophisticated electronic equipment.

converting to residential refer

I recently replaced my Norcold 1200lrim with a 24cu.ft.Samsung side by side. Really love the conversion but am now thinking about installing a dedicated pure sine wave inverter as my factory installed is a modified sine wave. Samsung will not provided me with the run and start currents (nobody seems to know). I installed a "Kill-A-Watt" meter and found the max run to be around 3 amps AC current, I am presuming this to be in defrost cycle as most other times it is around 1.8 amps. Now for the question, would a 1000 watt pure sine wave inverter work? What have you guys used and what manufacturer would you recomend?
Thanks; KDK

RE: Slide Motor Broke??

I recently had a similar problem and took the motor and gear box apart and found a sheared role pin in the gear box. Replaced it with a new pin purchased at Lowes for 29 cents. But unfortunately your problem sounds more like a broken tooth in the gear box. Take it out and take it apart, you have nothing to loose at this point!

RE: Residential Refer

I replaced a norcold 1200 lrim 4 door with a 24.5 cu ft samsung cabinet depth unit. The samsung actually weighed less than the norcold. Had to remove the 2.5" thick wall next to it which only covered the side insulation of the norcold but fit in the same spot. Anchoring it in was a bit of chore but don't regret doing it. The cabinet models box is only 24" deep. On the samsung model I have the food is kept back on the shelf by the door trays when the door is closed. Used a piece of velcro to wrap around the handles to keep doors closed while traveling but still open the doors with caution when opening the first time. Also installed a "Fisher-paykell" drawer type dish washer this year, best 2 upgrades ever. Now I have cold ice cream and I don't have to wash the dishes.

RE: Adding additional batteries and new inverter.

Gator48; in reading the literature for this inverter, I believe it has a "Pulse Width Modulated" output and not a "Pure Sine Wave". You may want to reconsider your choice as some refer. manufacturers require pure sine wave input power. kdk

RE: Will my heater provide enough heat driving in cold weather?

I installed a small piece of self adhesive velcro on either side of the ceiling on the back side of the overhead cabinets and then hung an old king size sheet with velcro sewn to it. This will keep all the heat up front in the winter and cool up front when it's hot. Blessings kdk

RE: Tires

I recently went from 275/70/22.5 load range G to 275/80/22.5 load range H which is about 2" taller and up a load range allowing me to run at lower pressure for the same weight, combined with the larger diameter giving a much better ride. My speedometer is calibrated using dip switches on the back of the speedo, had Allison calibrate the computer so my Alladin would read correctly (they did this fir free as it only took approximately 10 minutes because I had already known the revolutions per mile difference). Turn out to bee3 mile per hr. difference prior to calibrations. You can look at Michelin's tire charts to find the difference in sizes for the tires. Much better way to go IMHO.

RE: Conversion to a smaller residential fridge?

I replaced my Norcold 1200LRIM with a residential with a Samsung. It was my intent to get a counter depth 18 cu. ft. model but when I got to Lowes they had 24.5 cu. ft.side by side on sale for less than the 18cf. model. The original fridge had a wall between it and the dinning table and a false front board on top which I removed. Left about
1 1/2" between the new refer and the slide. Run it on a modified sign wave inverter when traveling with no problem. If you decide to repair yours get a Amish built unit.

RE: RV'ers with No Goodyear G670 Problems

My Holiday Rambler came with G670's. At 7000 miles the front showed signs of rivering. Called Goodyear and they said they didn't know anything about rivering (I guess they don't read this forum), but said to rotate to the rear and get an alignment. I did all of this and now at 43000 mi. the front and the outside rears rivered so bad that it wore thru the outside tire rib that the steering wheel started to shimmy. Called Goodyear again and they promised to have the district rep. come and look at them, which they never did. Replaced them with Michelin XZA3+ and am very pleased after 6 months. Would not have G670's again, not saying they don't make good car tires but their customer service and standing behind their product is poor. If you have any doubts about this just do a search on this forum and IRV2 as well.

RE: Hard Starting diesel

Sounds like a bad ground. First disconnect your negative battery leads and proceed. You may want to check all electrical connections to the starter, block to chassis and chassis to the battery ground terminal, take them off and clean them, put some dialectic grease on them before reinstalling to prevent any further corrosion. Check with an Ohm meter the resistance from the starter case to the engine block, from the engine block to the negative terminal of your batteries, should be near zero ohms resistance. Reconnect the batteries. Do a voltage check to the starter both before and then during start to see if there is a large voltage drop, do this with the positive lead to the starter positive terminal and the negative lead first to the starter housing, then to the engine block and then to the negative battery terminal with the starter cranking the engine. If all readings are good, sounds like a bad starter. A starter re builder can load check it for you before buying a new one. You can PM me if you have any further questions or clarification.

RE: 30 Amp 220 damage?

I installed a hard wired 50 amp Progressive surge protector ( you can also get portable 30 amp) which checks voltage, frequency, polarity, ground and neutral before applying power to the coach. Best insurance for the money. This unit also monitors voltage fluctuation and protects against spikes while plugged into shore power and has saved me more than once with brown outs. Tried to talk my brother in law into one and he didn't want to spend the money.
Low and behold a couple of months later had a lightening strike nearby and took out 8 grand worth of stuff. The couple of hundred for the surge protector then looked pretty cheap. Don't get just the surge protector but the electrical protection system.

RE: And why is it that it wont start..???

Sully2; If you leave the batteries installed for the winter and they become discharged they will surely freeze and then may break open spilling the acid all over when they thaw out. If you don't plan to replace then until spring be sure to at least remove them for the winter.

RE: Flooring project What did you use to replace,

I used Armstrong "Alterna" which were 16" squares tiles glued down using their adhesive. These can be grouted or butted up against each other. Has a 25 year wear guaranty and can be cut with a razor knife, coping saw tin snips or whatever. I grouted mine using Armstrong's flexible grout in the MH and butted them in the House. We like the grout look better. Also installed them in a diagonal pattern so as not have a bowling ally look when standing in the front or rear, a little more work but worth it. Slides don't seem to bother it. After installation I stained and finished some 1/2" quarter round to complete the floor to wall transition. A little more expensive than other products but IMHO well worth it.

RE: How do you cool down your RV driving area while driving

First is your dash air putting out cold air? If it is as mine does I put a piece of self stick velcro on the rear side of the over head cabinets above the drivers and passenger seats and hang and old king size bed flat sheet with the other half of velcro sewn to it across the opening going to the rear of the coach. Then only the front cab area is cooled. This works well up to about 95 deg. outside temp. Anything above that run the gen. and roof air.

RE: Engine Compartment

Google car thermal insulation material and you will find a number of products that will work. I personally don't care for the bubble wrap stuff for this application if it is installed under the dog house. "Cool mat" looks like a pretty good quality heat shield. Along with the heat shield it will also reduce the sound with a matting of this type. I have not used it for an RV but when building my street rod I lined the fire wall and floor and you could ride bear foot and the hottest of days. Some are a lot more expensive than others, just do a little research and get what fits your budget.

RE: 50 amp Rig, 30 amp Park

Roy; You need to purchase an power cord adapter to go from 50 amp to 30 amp. Then run your refer and hot water off gas. If your batteries are being charged at a high amp load turn off your charger if possible and charge them later when you don't need both AC's. The electrical system on your MH will take care of the rest. Be conscious of other loads as well, no hair dryers, electric fry pans, coffee pot or toaster maybe even entertainment center keeping every thing to a minimum. There is still the possibility that you still will not be able to run both AC's at the same time because the breaker on the pole won't allow it and may trip especially if both units try to start the same time or the park has low voltage which you may want to check after you get both units running.
Blessings KDK
ON edit; another thing you can do is close off the bed room area when not in there and run on just one AC. Then before going to bed turn off the main unit and run the one in the bedroom.

RE: Where did you purchase your TST 507 TPMS system

I purchased mine directly from TST. They have excellent customer service and you can deal directly with them, at least that was the policy 4 years ago. I recently needed some "O"rings for the sensors and they shipped 20 of them to me free of charge. Can't beat that!
