RE: Best grill for RVing?

I have a q200, family of 6, works great. Can't make much more than you need for one meal, but its comfortably fed us without issue. I'll bring a few of the typical camping lantern size bottles, but also have a distribution tree and hose for it from a bigger tank depending on if I'm using it for an afternoon at the creek or on the road towing and cooking lunch out of the back of the truck while the kids play at the park. best grill I've ever owned.

RE: Algae in Fresh Water Tank

I had the same problem after my trailer sat all summer, nice green crud. The problem I had was getting all the water (and algae) out of the fresh water tank. I got under and would push around on the bottom of the tank and try to get the water over to the drain, but then the problem was with the drain. The fitting stands up proud of the tank wall, so I never could get it all drained. I plotted how to get the tank free so I could tilt it or even how to make a different drain hole. Eventually I just made sure I bleached it good and rinsed good, filled it up and hit the road. We don't drink it, and I never noticed it come out the faucet, and it was all gone that I could tell when we got home. I haven't come up with a good way to drain the fresh tank completely.

RE: Cross Country trip this May

In Ks, I haven't been west of where hw 36 meets hw 13 North of Manhattan, but I have been on 36 east until just into western part of Indiana and even when it overlaps with I-72 for a while its a nice pleasant drive compared to being on I-70. Hw 36 is a really nice road especially in eastern Ks and in Mo at least as far as I can remember, in Il I just wanted out of the state and I don't remember much. The worse roads I've been on for towing have been I-70 between Manhattan and Lawrence, very long uphills with that textured pavement and exposed in the wind and lots of big trucks. At least in the mountains you expect to be in 2nd gear and feeling like your in the way of traffic, not in flat as a pancake Ks. I often take hw 24 between Topeka and Manhattan, it parallels it and is down in bottom land nice and flat and a nice road, 2 lane and goes through a few little towns to slow you up, but 65mph mostly and 2mpg better. I-70 west of manhattan is a fine road and nice services etc you would expect, but its got a lot of that textured road surface that seems to kill my mpg and is unpleasant with lots of big trucks. That said, we usually run I-70 home when we just want to get home as direct we can in a mad dash the last day.

RE: Magmount Ham antenna on rooftop AC?

mag mounts come loose, and with it out of reach it may be best to find a fixed mount of some sort rather than find yourself with the mag mount flopping around on top or along the side of the MH should it get into a tree etc. A quarter wave 2M is all I have on my roof with an NMO mount. Seems to get the job done, but I don't have the part over my cab since I'm pulling a TT. A lip mount on your hood in front may be the best place for a solid mount with good ground that is out of the way and accessible without climbing. this unfortunately means a bit more involved mounting scheme. do a search (google etc) on K0BG, you will find a lot, a whole lot, of info and examples of mounting on all sorts of vehicles. Also you may find even with a better antenna, there just isn't a whole lot of chatter. Went Ks to Ohio and back and only heard a couple of signals on 146.520. I'm sure it helps to announce yourself now and then, probably a lot more monitor it than we hear chatting on it. HF is going to give you more opportunity, but its a considerably bigger situation all around to get an effective setup mobile. good luck, let us know what you end up with.

RE: Ford V10 howling sound

Does it flutter depending on your throttle position? I think your hearing "exhaust flutter". I had the same thing and the ford forums knew just what I was talking about, its just the way the stock y-pipe behaves and isn't a problem. Sure freaked me out as the first time I heard it I was about 800 miles from home.

RE: S Colorado and Utah in May

Also there is the option to run this backwards, head to Moab first then to S Utah and back around S Colorado. Not sure how much a week or so will matter.

RE: S Colorado and Utah in May

Between Moab and I-70, I suggest taking scenic Hwy 128 along the river, rather than 191. Thank you, I'm starting to do some general route planning and usually it comes down to just letting google maps lead the way unless I run across things like this. I know there is a tunnel over zion/bryce way where you get to stop traffic to pass through. Thats the only other note I have to watch out for. So far.

RE: S Colorado and Utah in May

I've got a honda eu2000i, had thought I'd have a companion before this trip but unless I need the AC I don't need the companion. I may just work on getting additional battery capacity. We have done our traveling in our truck so far, just bought an excursion last weekend. Had thought I could run the generator(s) in the back of the truck while moving to deal with battery charging and even running AC maybe. But with the excursion I'll have to rethink my crazy ideas. Will be a bit different, we have always had at least electricity. A new twist to our adventure for sure.

RE: S Colorado and Utah in May

This is just what I needed to hear. We are wanting to be back home by memorial day, take advantage of the time before vacations start. Kids are 4, 6, 8, 10 so being outside and hiking etc is the name of the game, better cool than warm. We need to be outside, a lot. Wouldn't mind not having to worry about power for the AC also. The last trip through Ohio I had even the travel days planned to the hilt, I think this may be the opposite. We may just head that way and move around as we are ready rather than on a schedule. Its only going to be a couple weeks, but we tend to find a place and wish we stayed there longer etc. We derailed the Ohio trip on Kelleys island and were glad we stayed there longer rather than a rushed trip through Michigan and around to home. Doesn't look like I'll need to worry about not finding a place to stay one way or another. When we went to Ohio it was hot, very hot, and our usual parking at city park playgrounds for lunch while the kids played etc didn't work. We were headed there for something other than vacation so we dealt with it. Hot outside, hot in the trailer, just plain hot. We went to Palo Duro and Devils den right before memorial day last couple years and it was always empty and mild weather and perfect for us. I was really worried we would either get to Utah too soon or too late depending on what account I was reading. Its good to have reports from the locals. Appreciate it.

S Colorado and Utah in May

I've read and read and read and I seems like its either going to be blistering hot or 6' of snow in S Colorado and S Utah the middle of May. We are wanting to come in from the East through Mesa Verde NP, then into S Utah to Bryce/Zion area. We had thought about heading home through Moab then back I-70 back to Ks. Certainly could backtrack or head South through Az/NM but that isn't striking our fancy. Some of the NP campgrounds don't take reservations until the 2nd week of May, seems like we should be early enough to maybe not need to be too worried about reservations. I'm not set on staying in NP, hookups now and then would be great with our family of 6. I'm looking for any thoughts. I know it could snow or be warm etc, weather at elevation is pretty unpredictable, but if mid may there is always 6' drifts left places we are headed thats different. thanks

RE: Just Got my new eu2000i

I got the magnetic filler plug, after 20-30 min on its first run I changed the oil and the magnet was very furry. I did a few more relatively short runs like that under load (space heater) before calling it good and seated in and ready for a longer run. Every change the fur on the magnet got less and less as you would hope.

RE: WERE GETTING READY- WHAT DID WE FORGET

Yeah the wife gets the kids situated in the TV while I take the last bits of things apart when we are leaving. Then I pull out and I get out and walk back through the site before leaving for anything I missed and around the truck/trailer one last time. I got a something-teen dollar camera and a something-teen dollar display from amazon so I don't need help hitching. I'm not embarrassed to get in/out of the truck several times to get situated right in the spot on arrival. Just have the family stay put for a few more minutes or send them to the playground.

water in rolled up awning

I find that my awning collects water while stored rolled up. I had the pleasure to scrub crud off every inch of it top and bottom a few weeks ago and tonight went out after we got some rain and find it full of water. Is this normal to need to go drain the awning?

RE: hitch alignment and vhicle back-up camera

I got a cheap monitor and camera from amazon, something-teen dollars each. I also use the backup ball to give me depth perception. Put it on the truck side of the ball and when the coupler touches it I'm lined up right.

RE: License Plate Bracket problem

Same problem, different solution. There was about an inch of the old frame left under the taillight. It was pretty thick so I just drilled holes thru and bolted the plate on. Over a year, so far so good! Just did the same on the road a couple weeks ago, found the plate hanging by only one point after a day of traveling.
