RE: 2003 duramax questions

Thanks I did not know that, I was going to ask the dealer to perform a balance check of the injectors prior purchase. Just did not know that a smart phone could do that...wonder if thay have one for an Iphone...

RE: 2003 duramax questions

Great advice my friend, yep spoke to the wife this AM and she wants to wait for the 2010-13 GMC 2500HD 4x4 CC gas job. Either that or the same in the F250 platform and the 6.2 gas job. After thinking about it over night, she doesnt want the large repair bill again for the injectors if they go south. I guess the 01 scared her off good, being that the head gaskets and 2 injectors went... so keeping gas from now on....I have been happy with my current truck, this 03 kinda fell into my lap unexpectly on Sunday. The injectors were replaced by GM, and the miles were only 112K, but the dealer just would not come off the price very much, so between my wife not in agreement with the deal, and the price, I walked away.

RE: 2003 duramax questions

Drove it today, wife didn't care for it like I thought. She wants to wait and get a newer version in a year or so. Bad memory's of the 01 with injector issues and large bill to fix (second set) plague her mind. She wants to stick with gas like we have been doing for the last few years, so I may pass unless she changes her mind some. The dealer would not budge on price so I walked away... Funny thing is they have been blowing up my cell phone the last,hour.....I will keep y'all posted.

RE: 2003 duramax questions

Cool to hear, I called a diesel mech friend of the family, told him about it as well. I have a friend at church that wants my truck so I could sell mine outright to him and get this truck within my price range. Was looking at the newer version of my truck to,purchase next year... But cant afford the price there asking. So I may go back to pulling with diesel again....am happy with the 6.0 gas but like I said this one has got me thinking...

2003 duramax questions

Hey guys, Have a possible shot at picking up a mint 2003 2500hd CC 4x4 Duramax. Got 112k on it, not sure about the injectors being replaced yet or not. It's at a stearliship, they want 18000 for it... I won't pay that price, but am really looking at this truck. It has pulled a fiver before owned by a retired couple. The salesman will pull the gm service records for me. It has a clean car fax with some records of service. It looks as though it had been serviced regularly. Any other issues that I should look out for? We had an 01 and I think this his the same generation of duramax. The dash did work fine, I am going back today at 330 and drive it with my wife. What's your thoughts?

RE: Need a new tow vehicle....opinions?????

Towing I get around 8 mpgs, empty is 11-12 city and 14-15 highway at 65 to 70mph. If I get in Georgia or into a headwind when towing I got 7 mpg.....depending on the mountains and overall speed.

RE: Need a new tow vehicle....opinions?????

I love my GM 6.0, with that said I will really enjoy the 6 speed over my 4 speed one day when I buy a newer version of my truck. My 3.73 pull fine in Florida with my weight, and I am around 9k. In Georgia I slow down some, but overall very happy with my current truck. And yes I have pulled with diesel because we have a few in the family. The Duramax was sweet but I don't like the overall cost of ownership. My recommendation look for the 6.0 and newer 6 speed, you will be happy.

RE: Which one: Ford F250 6.2 or GM 2500HD 6.0?

Thanks for the help guys, I believe he is going with the Chevy. The deal looks better to him with the 6.0 gas and 6 speed.

RE: 2005 GMC 2500HD Input please

Love my 6.0 with 165k, no issues with the engine, solid as a rock. Little stuff does go, but its nice to know that the drivetrain will last. The 6.0 is one of the best engines that Chevy has built to date in my opinion. It has served me well over the years. Looking forward I will most likely end up selling this one in a few years and getting a gmc 2500hd with the 6.0 and 6 speed. My wife has been checking them out and fell in love with the 2007.5 and up design. The 6 speeds is icing on the cake for me, so far my truck does good pulling the weight with the 4 speed. So if u get a good deal on the truck, I say go for it.

RE: Which one: Ford F250 6.2 or GM 2500HD 6.0?

Thanks for the input.... Funny thing is that I have to be careful or I will be ending up with a newer one as well. I am heading out today to get a look at the ford. I saw the Chevy last week, so there is a few of them for him to look at when he gets around this weekend.

RE: Which one: Ford F250 6.2 or GM 2500HD 6.0?

Thanks guys thus far, I must admit that the Ford interior would win me over as well. I guess the main concern were power, and both seem to be on par with on another. So when he comes around then we will be searching. Several responses were about the new truck from GM, that would be nice and I appreciate the thought, but I think the price would be just to high for him and the need is now. The dodge with hemi was out due to he had one before and wanted something different.

Which one: Ford F250 6.2 or GM 2500HD 6.0?

OK guys, my brother is looking at both of these trucks. I am unsure of the performance of these both side by side other then what the magazine articles say. I have an older 6.0 so I cant weigh in much due to the latest version of the 6.0 have more power and 6 speed. So my question is: who has compared both and what are your thoughts? not a diesel/gas thread and sorry he is not interested in any other truck.I am tore because I have seen both and like both but yet have put my backside in the seat of either one. He on the other hand is working out of state and plans to check them out when he gets back, till then I am pulling research for him. BTW he will be pulling my camper at times when I am not using it, so around 9 to 9.5K loaded. The only trucks around here locally are 3.73 gears. And yes mountain pulling will be normal at times for this truck since he travels out of state alot. Again please no diesel/brand wars. Thanks for your help! Kris

RE: To EcoBoost or Not...

So far all the campers that I have spoken with that own the 6.2 in an 3/4 or 1 ton, love that engine/tranny combo.

RE: Durango just crapped out - should I get another??

About two months ago, my TC started acting up. I took my truck to a friend who is a GM tranny specialist and he looked at it. We found the TC was shot at 160K so I said its cheap to rebuild the 4L80 so we did. Funny thing was there was so little wear on the clutches inside the tranny (testiment to the 4L80E tranny). I kinda thought about selling it for a newer one when I found out about the problem prior tear down. But I am glad to have kept it, the rebuild with all new parts was around 1700.00, cost of new truck was sooo...much more. Still no payments for me and since the engine was in such good shape (we did a leak down test, and its like new still).. it was a no brainer to keep it and fix it...

RE: 2011 f350 transmission pump leak

Same thing happened to my BIL when he had his 2012 F150. He was towing his camper when it occurred and lost the tranny. It was under warranty, following the repair he traded the truck for an F250, but that was for other reasons.
