RE: HELP! Problem w/ 97 Roadtrek propane connection

Hi - I have an 03C190P. Where is your propane fill? Mine is in the middle of the rear bumper - which sounds similar to yours. Some propane fill stations balk at this location, but only once in many years/miles of travel have I encountered a fill station that could not fit to fill the onboard tank. You may just need to find a different fill station. However, based on the year of your RT, it IS possible, if your fill location is the same as mine, that the fiberglass bumper cover might have shifted enough to prevent the fill from fitting correctly. If that is the issue, try a body shop to adjust the bumper cover. ST

RE: Testing Carbon Monoxide Detector

Caution - too much exposure can damage the sensors in home-style CO detectors. Might not get it to reset... It would activate from auto exhaust, but depending on the technology inside the sensor may absorb too much to clear. Kind of a sacrificial device - it will give up its life to save yours... ST

RE: Some random questions driving through Canada to Alaska

Quite often gas stations have a free dump/water fill station - not something common here in the east. ST

RE: Testing Carbon Monoxide Detector

Or just accept the fact that Kidde (or whomever) is a reputable company and the detector is UL approved. To be sure, just buy a 2nd one for the rig! ST

RE: Weather radios, etc

Regarding a smartphone app, I use OnGuard. Actually bought this one - for about $2, based on a recommendation from a fellow RVer on this forum. It works VERY well. Been using it for about a year now - it's been doing its job from the East Coast to the Left Coast. Using the phone's GPS, it alerts for whatever county you are in. ONLY drawback is it is limited to exactly where you are, not what may be headed your way... I still have and use a regular weather radio in the camper. This alerts for whatever counties are in radio range. I do not use SAME codes when I am on the road. When I am concerned about threatening weather, I check my paper maps (just 'cuz I have GPS, etc., I STILL carry paper maps...), and note the county I am in, plus surrounding counties, usually to the west/southwest, since that is "usuallY" where storms move in from. So when it alerts at 0-dark-thirty that XYZ county has a severe weather alert, I can quickly know if I am in the "line of fire" and need to beat-feet or hunker down, or just go back to bed. Cheap insurance in my opinion. ST

RE: Surge Guard Universal Lock ??

Thieves are lazy, otherwise they would be gainfully employed. You just need to make your "stuff" harder to take than someone else's. Every little bit of protection helps. It's like grizzly bears - you don't need to be able to outrun the bear, just whomever you are with! ;) ST

RE: Surge Guard Universal Lock ??

Just get a cable lock like for a bike, with loops on the end. Wrap the post, etc, then lock the ends using the same lock as on the guard. ST

RE: Where to Stay in Vegas?

Sam's Town worked well for us - and they did have 24 hour security in the park. Access to the strip and being ON the strip are 2 different animals! We were happy to retreat away from it and back to Sam's Town! ST

RE: Off the beaten path to do/see in ME - Acadia

Cranberry Islands are accessed by a (dog-friendly!) passenger ferry/shuttle, not a car ferry. Vehicles are transported to the small islands usually by barge. It is fun to see the collection of vehicles parked at the ferry docks on some of the islands (Isle au Haut comes to mind - a bit distant from the main part of Acadia NP, but worth a day visit - bikes might be good here). Cranberry Islands are small enough to wander about. ST

RE: What to see in Anchorage...

I would highly recommend the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center that Trackrig mentioned, along with the Alaska Native Cultural Center that joe b. referenced - both will give you a lot of history/background in a little time. Also in the Portage area, take the easy hike (maybe 15 or 20 minutes...)into Byron Glacier (almost opposite the Portage Glacier Visitor Center). Pretty easy way to get on some snow and see some great terrain! ST

RE: hershey rv show

Depending on how long and the reason you are there, you can stay right on the grounds - dry camping - it was $25/night a couple years back when we did it. Worked for us, since we just wanted to spend a day at the show. One note - if the wind is right, there is a very, shall we say, distinct smell, that I would guess originates from some type of wastewater treatment facility in the area! ST

RE: New Mexico visit

Glad you opted for Brantley Lake. We used Trailer Village right in Roswell for the night - yes, 1 day was totally adequate, but it was fun! (isn't that the idea???). A brother firefighter STRONGLY suggested we NOT go from Carlsbad down to El Paso, the obvious route and what we had been planning. Very real safety concerns (at least in 2010 when we were there) even travelling along I-10 in that area - cartels were flexing their muscles along the border. Instead we headed west over 82 (?) thru Cloudcroft and down to a beautiful SP in Alamogordo, then on to White Sands, etc. Have a great trip - and yes, stay right on the grounds at the balloon festival like 2gypsies mentioned - it was a great experience! RE: Off the beaten path to do/see in ME - Acadia

Hi Kathy! In Bar Harbor, hike out on the namesake gravel bar at low tide to Bar Island! You get about 1 1/2 hrs that the gravel is exposed before the tide returns and covers it again - very cool! Drive farther north - head to Eastport area. If you overnight up there, the Cobscook SP is very nice. Bring your passports - visit Campobello Island (http://www.nps.gov/roca/index.htm). Head up to Bangor, Orono, and Old Town - check out the Paul Bunyon statue, visit the Old Town Canoe factory, eat at Govenor's! LOTS to do around there! Hope this helps! ST

RE: Mileage/Gas Tank Info for Class B to Live In

My 03 Chevy 3500 platform for my RT 190P has a 33g gas tank. My mileage varies either side of 15mpg - averaged over 15k miles to AK and back from NH we got 15.1 mpg, fully (and I mean FULLY!) loaded. We've logged over 70k miles since we got it in 2005, cross country 4x, up and down the east coast, through Canada and Maritime provinces. Hills, deserts, wide open spaces. I'm pretty easy on the throttle, likes to travel around 62 mph for best economy vs traffic speed. Hope this helps. ST

RE: New TV AND Memory Foam for RT 210P

Check out www.foambymail.com - they sell all types of foam, including memory foam. Just bought a sheet of 5" foam to cut to fit our 03C190P for the mattress instead of fitting together the seat cushions, since we leave the bed set up all the time anyway. MUCH more comfortable. ST

RE: Asheville, NC

Sounds like you may have already chosen a spot, but if not you might look at Tapps RV park right in Asheville. We were there in October '11, visited the Biltmore and surrounding area. Plenty of room for large buses, and us little guys. Nothing fancy, just a nice little park. Have fun! ST

RE: Dog friendly parks Cape Cod-Maine

All the WMNF CG's are dog-friendly, but only SOME of the NH State Parks are, same with ME... MA SP's seem to be dog-friendly - look at Salisbury, Wampatuck and Nickerson, we have stayed with our pups at all of them. A really good book to get is "Dog-Friendly New England", lots of ideas on where to take 'em.
