RE: Is your dog on long term prednisone?
My 14 year old English Springer Spaniel started taking pred for IMHA. She bottomed out pretty quick and I almost lost her. Vet diagnosed her quickly and we got her back. Found the lowest dose that kept her going. She did well for 2 more years. Eventually long term pred will take it's toll. The immune system figures out you've been screwing with it and will ramp up.
I could not ask for any more from her, and she went on ahead to wait for me at the bridge just about a year ago. Pred is one of those drugs that will help but hurt in other ways.
(I have just welcomed a new furry soul into the house.) Good luck.
RE: What is the # of camping trips you average a season??
We solved the problem of "not enough time" by getting a seasonal site - we can pack our bags, drive 1:45, unlock the door, turn on the water and the hot water heater and unpack the bags in less time than it takes to prepare the camper for the road. We just camped for the 85th night this year (new record). The downside is that we go to the same campground every weekend. The upside of that is we know our neighbors well and they are great!
I second that! We start when the water is turned on (Mid May) and are there most weekends with 2 week long vacations. Concluding in mid Oct. when the water turned off... Then we go in the winter to snowmobile!!
Central NH, it's always a crapshoot if it doesnt freeze late for opening or early for closing... Good small mouth fishing, lake is a reserve so no gas engines, quiet quiet quiet. All you hear is kids playing and the loons... Best neighbors anyone could ask for. 2 hr. drive with no traffic... Works well for us...
Happy Camping!
RE: What do you carry in your pet first aid kit?
3M makes Vetrap. You have to be careful how you apply it. You do not put it on tight. Just lay it on and it sticks to itself.
I also put a bottle of betadine to flush wounds, you can also get a stapler online, we have one for when we hike. One time my 4 legged open up a gash on her shoulder. Clipped the area, betadine and used about 4 staples. Worked great.
When my girl got older I would carry bags of LRS to give her sub Q fluids. She didn't always eat the way I would like her to so the fluids would get her through those days. (surgical nurse at a vet clinic) your vet will prescribe fluids if you have a chronically ill pet, and train you how to do it...
I use a small duffel bag just for the dog's stuff... :B
RE: Escape windows on new travel trailer.
I have 3 of those in my 2002 Springdale and all of them open for ventilation and have screens. Just the hardware on the window is different.

I'm not sure who posted the Geo Method, but I can tell you that I started using Calgon Water softener and without using any kind of
wand or hose, my black water gauge is starting to work! Albeit slowly, I think I will get it clean...
2002 30 ft. Springdale, Started out at home and used about half a bottle of the water softener, filled the tank about half way with water and used a good squeeze of dawn dish soap. It had a good 2 hrs to slosh around the first time...
Then we towed for Memorial day weekend, added water, flushed out the tank before leaving and added more of the same. We then drove about 40 minutes to our seasonal place and I can tell you that I have not had the slight toilet smell that we have had for years. Every time we dump the tank I add about half a bottle of the water softener and a bit of dawn and so far I am very happy not having a "slightly stinky" bathroom when we head up to the lake. Whoever posted this method also was correct when they say lots and lots of water...
Even if the exhaust fan is on, and you happen to flush, I don't get the smell I used to. Have not used toilet chemical at all this year.
Calgon Water softener is $5.34 at my Walmart for 1 qt. Give it a try, I would recommend it based on my results... Good luck.:)
RE: First time out, everything went well - but mattress
Yes, got a memory foam topper from Walmart on sale, and because
I have one of the "shortie" queens, I took a electric knife and made
the alteration. Cut like "butta" I probably will at some point have a custom pillow top made for the "shortie" queen though. Nothing like a pillow top.
RE: Black tank clean out
I asked the same question a few weeks ago and someone posted something called the "geo method". Search for it and read through. Pretty simple and I'm in the process of trying it. So far I can tell you that I don't have that little bit of "stink" that I sometimes have coming from my toilet. I have not added the old toilet chemical that we used to use, that pine smelling stuff :(
It uses Calgon water softener, dish washing liquid and occasionally a little bleach. I have not put bleach in yet, not sure if I will, but used the other 2 and so far am happy with the results.
Check it out and good luck. :)
